The New York Yankees had a bad year in 2023, and many things went wrong for them, starting in Spring Training and continuing through until the end of the season. Stacey and Steve go through everything. All the injuries, the inconsistent performances, the player regressions, the players who shouldn't have been playing and who were finally DFAd, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, the nine-game losing streaks (kidding, there was only one of those) and so much more. Then the Athletic did a Yankees fan survey, and we go through the surprising and not-so-surprising results of that survey. What was the most disappointing aspect of the team? Which free agent should they go after? And which Yankees free agent should the team bring back? And finally, we talk about the ALCS and how the Texas Rangers are on a roll at the right time and the NLCS, which has started off in an interesting but not too surprising way. The New York Yankees ended the 2023 season with a dud of a series against the Kansas City Royals, losing two out of three games and finishing with an 82-80 record, their worst since 1992. On Sunday, Michael King had a rough ending to the season, giving up four runs in four innings, including three home runs. The Yankees dropped their season finale 5-2. On Saturday, the Yankees won behind the offense of Gleyber Torres and the kids. Clarke Schmidt made his final appearance of 2023 and departed after four innings. Frankie Montas made his 2023 debut and picked up the win because, of course, he did. On Friday, Carlos Rodon ended his 2023 campaign in the worst possible way, not recording an out, exiting the game in the bottom of the first, and ending up with eight runs credited to him. Yikes. He also turned his back on pitching Matt Blake when he came out to the mound, which caused a whole kerfuffle/brouhaha, and the Yankees pitching coach and manager Aaron Boone had to talk about the incident. So did Stacey and Steve. Should this be a permanent mark on Rodon, or should we just chalk it up to the frustrating end of a frustrating season for the lefty? Then Stacey and Steve tell you about some Minor League Awards that Yankees prospects won (so far) in the offseason. Expect some Triple-A awards to be given out in the coming days. I mean, what a joke.a.Why does this guy still have a job? If the answer is a strong union, then something has to change.3.Why did the Rockies resign Charlie Blackmon? Sure, he slashed .284/.368/.446, but with eight home runs, he's a singles hitter who really should be a DH. Kind of like Andrew Benintendi, and he has a job. But still, given where they are in the process, shouldn't they let their kids play and build for the future? I don't get it. 4.Two notable pitching performances yesterday – Do either interest you for next season? Rodons final outing puts the icing on the cake for this dreadful season.
New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Betting Pick Prediction 9/29/2023 by Tony T. Yankees at Royals—Carlos Rodon to start for New York. Rodon has thirteen starts in 2023 dealing an ERA of 5.74 with WHIP of 1.32. The veteran lefthander had a strikeout mark of 23% with 9.4% walks. Grounders served at 27.5% with 1.96 home runs per nine innings. Jordan Lyles to start for Kansas City. Lyles in 30 starts has an ERA of 6.24 with WHIP of 1.26. The righthander strikes out 16% with 6.1% walks. Ground balls delivered at 33.3% with 1.99 home runs per nine innings.
The New York Yankees split the first two games of their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend, and thanks to a rainout on Saturday, there will be baseball in New York on Monday. On Friday night, Aaron Judge went ham and hit three home runs for the second time in a month and led the Yankees to a 7-1 victory. Luke Weaver threw five and a third shutout innings for the Yankees, and Jhony Brito added three and two-thirds innings of one-run ball. On Sunday, the Yankees couldn't get anything going in a sloppy, rain-filled game, and Carlos Rodon pitched six and one-third innings but gave up five runs (three earned thanks to the sloppy play), and the Yankees were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Then it's our last Minors Monday of 2023. We discuss Somerset and Hudson Valley's eliminations a little more in-depth, we talk about how Scranton finished things up, some players were named All-Stars, AND we tell you who will be in the Arizona Fall League. Then, we preview Monday's game between Merrill Kelly and Clarke Schmidt. The New York Yankees take two from the Boston Red Sox in a doubleheader sweep at Fenway Park! In the first game, the Yankees came back to take the lead and hold on in the bottom of the ninth, even after Clay Holmes walked the bases loaded with only one out. Thankfully, Alex Verdugo swung at the first pitch, Gleyber Torres turned a great double play, and the Yankees prevailed. In Game Two, Carlos Rodon rebounded from a lead-off home run in the first inning to keep Boston to that one run in five innings with nine strikeouts. Estevan Florial tied the game, and the Yankees added insurance runs in the top of the ninth to secure the sweep. They're now tied with Boston at 73-72 with two more games to play in this series. We take a look at Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Japanese righty Brian Cahsman was scouting this past week who threw a no-hitter for the Orix Buffaloes in front of Cashman, Omar Minaya, and other MLB executives. We talk about Yamamoto's pitching arsenal (he has a splitter!) and discuss what he has that the Yankees need. Then we preview the third game of the series and talk about Clarke Schmidt, who is making the start on Wednesday. He has three starts left in 2023. Is Schmidt guaranteed a spot in the 2024 rotation? We discuss. Hour 1 The Lions upset the Chiefs last night and it was a terrible loss for Kansas City. The main reason they lost is former Giants WR Kadarius Toney. There were some clock management issues for the Chiefs as they went for it on 4th and 25 late with all 3 timeouts and the 2 minute warning. Gio does not like the Lions and he's already sick of the hype around this team. Jerry is here for his first update and has clips of Adam Schein saying how the Chiefs were going to win no problem. Jared Goff and Dan Campbell talked about the big win. Andy Reid is disappointed and Patrick Mahomes said he has not lost faith in Toney after the drops. A college football player had his ear ripped off this past weekend. The Yankees 5-game win streak came to an end against the Tigers. Carlos Rodon said he ‘got his ass whooped'. A protestor glued his feet to the ground at the US Open. In the final segment of the hour, Eddie is not here today because he's at the Sheep & Fiber Festival with his wife, an independent yarn dyer.
What's the schedule look like in Week 25? Do we start or sit Dylan Cease and Carlos Rodon? Jose Quintana is the top sleeper pitcher for next week. The Rockies have seven home games next week! Gio does not like the Lions and he's already sick of the hype around this team. Jerry is here for his first update and has clips of Adam Schein saying how the Chiefs were going to win no problem. Hour 2 Gio does not believe the Cowboys should be favored Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. Boomer said the Giants need to keep Micah Parsons in check if they're going to win. The Giants need domination from their defensive line and Daniel Jones needs to be throwing for 300 yards a game. We also talked about Eric Bienemy no longer being in KC and what he can do for the Commanders. Boomer wonders if the Saudis will try to start a league to compete against the NFL. Jerry returns for an update and has all the sound from last night's Lions win over the Chiefs. Kadarius Toney dropped a lot of balls. Patrick Mahomes was embarrassed by the loss. The Cowboys have a hologram Jerry Jones at the stadium. Mark Schlereth is not a fan of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. In the final segment of the hour, former NY Giant Justin Tuck is in the studio talking Giants/Cowboys and being the Dad of a 13 year old soccer player. Hour 3 Gio loves JustinTuck and said it's difficult to not like the Giants now. The pundits seemed to like the Lions going into this season and they beat the Chiefs last night so we're going to get more pundits liking the Lions. Boomer said the pundits also like the Giants and Jets. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Lions beating the Chiefs last night. Aaron Rodgers has a lot of messages for the team that are ‘esoteric in nature'. Jerry has some Mike Tomlin-sims that are favorites of Mike Tomlin himself. The Yankees 5-game win streak came to an end last night. Anthony Rizzo was ejected from the bench for criticizing the umps. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets in comparison to Tom Brady joining the Bucs and Peyton Manning joining the Broncos. A caller says he once chucked a pretzel at the Jets huddle in 1994. Hour 4 We start the hour with audio from the Jets game where a caller chucked a pretzel at the huddle. A 79 year old man is pissed that Charter Communications and ESPN are still fighting and he can't watch the Jets on Monday night. Jerry returns for an update and starts with all of the sound from last night's Lions win over the Chiefs. Dan Campbell talked about going into KC and getting a win. The Jets played in the Hall of Fame game and Boomer was happy to see Joe Klecko have his well-deserved moment. It's a miracle they are over .500 but are in a tough spot moving forward. Jerry wonders if the Mets, despite all of their problems, have a clearer path in the future than the Yankees. Boomer worries about the Yankees pitchers staying healthy and what the Mets nucleus will look like. Is Jeff McNeil a problem? Jerry sees a clearer path for the Mets because of their core and farm system. Boomer would send Brett Baty back down to triple-A for his own good. Boomer would also hire a “hard-ass” manager. Which Yankees players are part of their core? Has Gleyber been their most consistent hitter this season? Boomer thinks there's a toxicity surrounding the Mets and possibly the Yankees too. Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson and Rich = discuss the growing bandwagon for Detroit to be a contender this season, why he's already picturing sacking Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in Detroit's season opener, what fiery head coach Dan Campbell brings to the team, the big expectations for Michigan football next season, and his not-so-secret Taylor Swift “Swiftie” fandom. Rich looks ahead to the Chiefs hosting the Lions in the NFL's season opening game and says why Patrick Mahomes and company shouldn't sleep on an up-and-coming Detroit team. Rich explains how Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon and New York Jets HC Robert Salah show how not to and how to handle the spotlight of the country's largest media market.
