Max Fried is back on the injured list with the same elbow issue that already cost him nearly two months, and Evan Roberts has zero confidence the Yankees will see him pitch again this season. Evan and Tiki Barber debate whether Fried can realistically return for October, why Carlos Rodon suddenly carries even more pressure, and how the injury reinforces baseball's harshest lesson: you can never have enough pitching. The Yankees also face a difficult roster decision when Cody Bellinger returns, with Spencer Jones looking like the likely casualty. On the Mets side, Evan refuses to call their four-game winning streak a playoff push but is enjoying the young talent and looking toward 2027. Plus, David Stearns leaves the door cracked for Andy Green's managerial future, and the guys debate whether winning down the stretch could change the Mets' plans.

The injury also revives the trade deadline debate over Tarik Skubal and the warning that teams can never have enough pitching. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Tuesday. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler sit down on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, opening at 00:11 with a plan to run through the day's baseball card before turning to the next NFL win total on the board, the Buffalo Bills at ten and a half. Essler joins at 00:50 fresh off a rough night with a Braves team total, then lights up over a Frank Thomas rookie card pull from a fresh box, sparking a short conversation about grading costs, centering, and how AI and celebrity involvement have pushed the trading card market toward pricier autographed, numbered parallels. At 02:25, Manji delivers a scheduling note, confirming this is the final week of the show before it shifts into its football format, with a Thursday props pod, a college football podcast alongside Lante, a Monday morning recap paired with a Monday Night Football preview, and a full weekend preview show on Fridays taking its place, while the current format returns after the new year. The baseball breakdown begins at 04:13 with the Yankees at the Orioles, Carlos Rodon opposing Shane Baz at a total of eight and a half, where Essler leans toward the Yankees team total while Manji sides with Baltimore on the moneyline, pointing to New York's struggles with runners in scoring position and Rodon's recent return from the injured list. At 08:09, the Blue Jays visit the Rays, Jose Soriano against Nick Martinez at seven and a half, with both hosts warming to Toronto behind Soriano's strong two starts and a struggling Tampa Bay bullpen. At 12:16, the Tigers travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates, Keter Montero opposite Braxton Ashcraft at a total of eight, where Essler favors a first five under while Manji likes Detroit's plus money given its league best road record since the All Star break. At 17:06, the Padres meet the Mets, Robbie Ray against Zack Thornton at eight and a half, with both hosts landing on the first five over given shaky command from both starters. At 21:16, the card closes with the Mariners in Milwaukee against the Brewers, Bryce Miller opposing Kyle Harrison at seven and a half, where Manji highlights Miller's poor road form and a Sunday Night Baseball fade angle to back the Brewers team total over three and a half. Essler runs down the rest of the day's slate at 25:36 before the conversation turns to football at 29:23, where the hosts dig into the Buffalo Bills win total of ten and a half. They walk through a 12 and 5 season a year ago, an AFC East runner up finish behind New England, a wild card win over Jacksonville, and an overtime divisional round exit in Denver, before previewing new head coach Joe Brady, the addition of DJ Moore at receiver, and a defense under new coordinator Jim Leonard that both hosts see as the swing factor for the season. They break down the schedule in detail, from the Week 1 trip to Houston through a manageable home stretch, a West Coast swing, and a difficult December run, ultimately agreeing the over is the right side if Josh Allen stays healthy. At 39:22, the hosts remind listeners about the pregame.com picks package and a seasonal discount before wrapping with best bets at 41:38, Essler backing the Astros team total over four and a half against the Angels and Manji sticking with the Brewers team total over three and a half against the Mariners. The show closes at 46:08 with Essler hoping his card collection has one more gem waiting inside, and Manji confirming the crew returns tomorrow with more picks and analysis as the season rolls on toward the football schedule ahead. The Yankees may have a major October lineup problem brewing. Shaun Morash is in for Evan Roberts alongside Tiki Barber as they argue Luis Garcia Jr.'s bat has become too valuable to sit once Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger return. That could leave Jazz Chisholm Jr. as the odd man out, with Garcia potentially moving to second base to keep the Yankees' strongest offense on the field. Ryan Weathers also keeps forcing his way into the playoff rotation conversation, potentially ahead of Carlos Rodon. The Jets bring a rare dose of optimism after Aaron Glenn openly admits that not calling the defense last season was a mistake. Tiki praises Glenn's self-awareness and willingness to change, while Shaun says the answer gave him renewed hope that Glenn can grow into the head coach the Jets need despite lingering concerns about the quarterback situation.

Griffin Warner talks betting for Thursday. Real_G Warner is back with the June 4 episode of the what I bet podcast on the Straight Outta Vegas AM feed of the pregame.com podcast network, and the card tonight is headlined by Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, with the Vegas Golden Knights heading back to Raleigh as plus money underdogs after stealing Game 1 on the road, 5-4, erasing a 2-0 deficit and getting a late winner from Tomas Hertl. Vegas is plus 138 in Game 2, Carolina minus 157, and the series price has already flipped all the way to the Golden Knights minus 140 favorites, a swing of roughly 222 percent on the Hurricanes side. Warner has been riding this team throughout the postseason, going five for five on the Knights as underdogs, and he is not stepping off now. Mitch Marner leads the entire 2026 playoffs with 21 points across 16 games, blocking shots in regulation and throwing no-look assists in the same shift, while Jack Eichel leads the postseason in assists with 16 and Ivan Barbashev, the Barbershop himself, has been a physical force at every stage of the run. On the baseball side, Warner runs through eight Thursday matchups, calling the Padres-Phillies game with Lucas Giolito against Zack Wheeler a tough spot for San Diego, skipping the Orioles-Red Sox matchup with Trevor Rogers and Brayan Bello in Boston as a pass with no strong angle, noting the Guardians plus 145 in the Bronx against Carlos Rodon and Slade Cecconi is a respectful number but a difficult structural spot for a small-ball club, passing on the Giants at Milwaukee with Adrian Houser against Coleman Crow while lamenting the state of the San Francisco front office, waiting on Seth Lugo and the Royals in Minnesota before committing to a side, leaning Astros at minus 105 with Kai-Wei Teng over Jared Jones in just his second start back from internal brace surgery, and watching the Dodgers price on Justin Wrobleski at Arizona against Ryne Nelson with Arizona plus 120 looking interesting. The best bet of the episode is Oakland Athletics plus 112 on the road at the Chicago Cubs, with J.T. Ginn carrying a 2.87 ERA and five straight quality starts into a matchup against Shota Imanaga, who has allowed eight home runs in his last three outings, and if the Wrigley wind blows out, Warner likes this number even more. The show is three and two over its last five episodes. Take 10 with Tim – May 8, 20261.Well, the big news of the week was Tarik Skubal needing elbow surgery to remove loose bodies – in other words, bone chips. Provided that's all there is, the recovery is likely three months. Add two to three more weeks for rehab, and maybe he's back in September. Brutal blow for fantasy managers to lose their first-round pick.a.What's the plan if you have Skubal or your team?b.Is this a reminder of the risk of using a first-round pick on a pitcher, or well, everybody gets hurt?c.Pitching injuries throughout the ranks have been tough this season – Skubal, Crochett, and Brown. Arguably, three of the big four will or have already missed considerable time. i.Just a bad year or is the list of elbow and shoulder injuries getting worse?2.Carlos Rodon returns on Sunday against the Brewers. He was good, during his rehab/spring training, but are you ready to start him right away? 16.0 IP, 16K, 3.38 ERA3.You commented on Sunday that Emilo Pagan was one of the few closers who was secure. Well, not anymore, as he's got a hamstring pull and will miss 4 to 8 weeks.a.You've been doing the Closer Report for years. Have you ever seen anything like this?b.What's the strategy for picking up guys and not burning through most of your FAAB? Or, should you just do it?c.Who's the pickup here?4.I know Carlos Correa is not what he used to be, but he was owned as middle infielder in a lot of leagues and will miss the rest of the season. Brice Matthews has not posted a high batting average, but has speed and power. Does he now get full-time at-bats and if so, are you in? 36% rostered in Fantrax Leagues.5.Robby Snelling finally gets the call and starts tonight against the Nationals. I'm sure you're going to start him, but give me a realistic stat line for his first start?a.Do you think he's up for good?6.Sung-Mun Song got the call for the Padres. Is he worth a pickup?7.Play, Sit, or Drop?1)Steven Kwan (OF, Cle, 94%) – .211 BA, 1 HR, 2 SB2)Matt Chapman (3B, SF, 94%) - .234 BA, 1 HR, 0 SB3)Justin Crawford (OF, Phil, 69%) - .264 BA, 0 HR, 3 SB4)Ezequiel Tovar (SS, Col, 67%) - .186 BA, 1 HR, 2 SB5)Alec Bohm (3B, Phi, 62%) - .159 BA, 1 HR, 0 SB6)Colton Cowser (OF, Bal, 50%) - .179 BA, 0 HR, 0 SB – what happened to him?7)Cedric Mullins (OF, TB, 35%) - .139 BA, 2 HR, 6 SB – platoon player8.What hitter are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB9.What pitcher are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?
