On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look where players on the current roster fall in the categories of: Core, Complimentary, and Not in Long Term Plans. We start with veterans not playing well recently and those who may command more than the Wild can give them in free agency such as Nico Sturm. We also look at whether Alex Goligoski or Jordie Benn will return next year. We move to complimentary players, with both Wild goalies falling into this category. We also look at why current stretches have proven that Marcus Foligno and Ryan Hartman are complimentary players. We finish with the core, and discuss why Kevin Fiala needs to be treated as part of this list and why Marco Rossi and Jesper Wallstedt still count even though they aren't on the current team.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBuilt Bar - Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we recap another loss to the Winnipeg Jets, this time by a score of 6-3. We look at how the Wild let their foot off the gas and allowed Winnipeg to control the game at their speed after the first period. We also discuss what Winnipeg has done to play the Wild tough this season. We look at if any of what the Jets did was concerning enough to keep an eye on the rest of the season. We also discuss the Wild's current D Line pairings, and why it may not be a good idea to pair Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin together with Jordie Benn's performances lately. The Wild need to play him with either Brodin or Spurgeon to help minimize his mistakes on the ice and so that other defensemen are not being relied upon too much to bail him out. We then look at why the Wild need to try to start games off on a more intense note so they don't keep having to dig out of deficits, which will be more difficult once the playoffs arrive.Subscribe to our Youtube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBuilt Bar - Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we recap both wins against Chicago over the weekend. We look at how Joel Eriksson Ek's return to the lineup has led to the Wild finally crafting the perfect lineup that they will use the rest of the season. We briefly look at what makes each line click and how Dean Evason is able to lean on the top 3 more now that they are clicking in full rhythm. We also look at Jared Spurgeon's return and why Jordie Benn shouldn't be in the lineup over Calen Addison. We finish by looking at more strong play from Kaapo Kahkonen, which should lead to a more even split in starts going forward.Subscribe to our Youtube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBetOnline AG - There is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins to preview tonight's game against the Dallas Stars. We look at what the Wild need to do to win, problems with the Wild's third line, and who the Stars may turn to in net. We look at Jared Spurgeon's injury and why Jordie Benn is being asked to fill the void again over Calen Addison. We also discuss the rash of COVID-19 postponements and why it's likely this is the last game the Wild play before the Winter Classic. We look at whether or not the Olympics are still possible for the NHL, and why the NHL is hoping the Wild and Blues avoid any COVID-19 cases between now and January 1st.Subscribe to our Youtube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBetOnline AG - There is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins for a #MichelettiMonday as we recap both games against the Panthers and Lightning. While it is encouraging that the Wild were able to hang with both teams, how concerned are we with the goaltending we've seen so far this year? Is it possible we saw the best that Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen have to offer last year?We then discuss the Jared Spurgeon injury situation. Jordie Benn didn't make any glaring mistakes in his return to the lineup, but the Wild are going to be better served playing Calen Addison to fill Spurgeon's spot in the lineup. While there hasn't been any timeline on Spurgeon's injury, it certainly seems like he's going to be out for a while. What is going on with Kevin Fiala? We look at the timeline of events that has led to Fiala seeing less playing time recently. How much of what goes on is actually his fault? Will Fiala ultimately get traded? If Fiala does end up getting moved, the Wild have two guys in Iowa who are absolutely on fire in Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy. Boldy showed absolutely no rust in his return to the lineup and Rossi continues to be great this year. They should end up in Minnesota at some point this year.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! | Offers from our sponsors: lockedonpodcasts.com/offersBetOnline AG - There is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look at what the Wild's Opening Night Roster might look like after the Prospect Showcase. The goalie position for the Wild is pretty well set, but Andrew Hammond looks to be the one who would step up if either Cam Talbot or Kaapo Kahkonen miss time due to injury. On defense, Calen Addison should compete for the final starting spot with Jordie Benn, but don't be surprised if Dean Evason opts for the experience of Benn to at least start the season. Beyond that there really aren't any surprises unless the team deals with a ton of injuries. On offense Bill Guerin set the stage for the potential of both Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi to grab forward spots. That could mean that Ryan Hartman starts the season as a wing, but if Rossi doesn't make the team then Hartman will lock down a center spot. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Zach Zeman returns and we discuss the signing of Jordie Benn. Will he be more of a depth player or could he actually get starters minutes on the 3rd line? We then move to trying to figure out who is the best center in Wild history. We start with maybe the most obvious choice in Mikko Koivu. Koivu is a perfect example of longevity and consistency which allowed him to climb to the top of almost every statistical category in the history of the franchise. We discuss the offense that Eric Staal, Brian Rolston and Mikael Granlund brought to the table in their short time with the team. We also discuss the defense and grit that Wes Walz, Pierre Marc-Bouchard and Kyle Brodziak brought with them. And we ponder what could have been with Pavol Demitra had he been with the team for longer than two seasons. #TheSotaPod Podcast Episode 195
Day two of the live streaming show and it’s a good one. The Welcome Matt dives into some of the questions that are surrounding the Canucks COVID outbreak. The man, the myth, the legend Don Taylor from the “Donnie & Dhali” show makes an appearance where the boys go down memory lane from their time working together at TSN 1040. Our Wednesday NHL insider Craig Button makes his debut on the show. The conversation focuses in on the NHL draft, and just who the Canucks could be setting their sights on with a potential top-10 pick. Button also gives high praise for Canucks prospect Linus Karlsson, and wonders what the cost of extending Tanner Pearson could be for the Canucks. The Price is Right takes a look at the Masters and how the event just isn’t the same without Tiger Woods in the field. Tell Me I’m Wrong follows where the boys debate if Jordie Benn holds the highest value for the Canucks going into the trade deadline, and why baseball is the only sport where a nicknames tend to replace a players real name when being referenced to. Canucks reporter Jeff Paterson follows Hashtags and gets a nice piece of breaking news to sink his teeth in, after the New York Islanders acquired Kyle Palmieri from the New Jersey Devils in a trade that broke during the show. The conversation shifts to the Canucks where J Pat asks what would have happened if the Canucks had played that game versus the Flames back on March 31st when the COVID exposure was found within the organization. Hot Take Wednesday and Errors and Omissions wraps up the show. Thanks for following, rating, and sharing the Sekeres & Price pod - and tell a friend about us.
