On this episode, we sit down with Zach Parise — Olympic silver medalist, long-time leader with the Minnesota Wild, and one of the most relentless two-way forwards of his era. A relentless competitor… a clutch performer… and one of the most respected American players of his generation. The son of former NHLer J. P. Parise, who played in the historic Summit Series, Zach grew up in a hockey family and carved out a career defined by work ethic, leadership, and big-moment performances. Parise was also a central figure in Team USA’s unforgettable run at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, scoring one of the most dramatic goals in U.S. hockey history — a last-minute equalizer against Canada in the gold-medal game that stunned the hockey world and forced overtime. Parise reflects on growing up around the NHL, the pressure and pride of the Olympic stage, his years in New Jersey & Minnesota, and the mindset that made him one of the game’s most relentless competitors. It’s a story of family legacy, Olympic drama, and the drive that defined one of American hockey’s most respected players.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When protests erupted in Iran in fall of 2022, human rights activist and professional climber Nasim Eshqi was climbing in France. As she watched the uprising back home unfold, Nasim knew that returning home at that moment would mean arrest and imprisonment at the hands of the government. She doubled down on her criticism of Iran's repressive regime and used her climbing to bring the struggle to the international climbing community. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Wayne Gretzky locker-room snub rumour, the Oilers' disastrous effort in Anaheim, Tristan Jarry's struggles, Tyler's hypotheticals, and more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Olympic hockey final and a rumour that came out this morning saying Wayne Gretzky was not allowed in the room for a pre-game speech. Given that the rumour started on Barn Burner, it's been interesting to see how much noise came out of Mike Commodore's comments on the show. While the rumour has been shot down by Hockey Canada, social media has continued to run with the story.Changing gears, the conversation turned to Tyler's list of "fun" hypothetical scenarios that weren't really all that fun. Unfortunately, those hypotheticals didn't do much to lift the mood in the room, as everyone was still notably annoyed by how the Oilers are playing right now. From undoing the Skinner-for-Jarry trade or adjusting current Oilers contracts to free up cap dollars, Tyler offered a few this-or-that scenarios that were as sad as they were tricky to parse. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with the Thursday episode of Real Life, running through topics, starting with staying away from social media in the days after the gold medal game, rivalries growing the game, the 2028 World Cup vs. a Summit Series-style head-to-head, and beefs of the week. As you'll hear and likely expect, this week's episode of Real Life covered a lot of ground and topics that were all over the map. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Josh Elliott-Wolfe and Dominic Sramaty host The People's Show, starting off with how the entirety of Canada might still be feeling over their loss to the USA yesterday at the Olympics. They chat about the Canadian roster moving forward, and when they can look to next in order to get revenge. Afterwards, they hop into your submissions for In or Out, before getting into a heated debate over the idea of a new Summit Series. Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada's David Amber (5:32) joins Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne to chat about the outcome from Canada vs. USA's Gold Medal hockey game, if Hockey Canada brought the right personnel to Milan, what winning the gold medal and Captaining USA Hockey could do for Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs for the rest of the season, how the loss could fuel Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, and if the NHL should reintroduce a Summit Series between USA and Canada for a 7-game series in the future. Then, Nick, Justin and Sam McKee weigh in on what the next World Cup would look like, if Doug Armstrong and Jon Cooper will return for Team Canada, and Nazem Kadri addressing trade rumours.
