For the current Tune of the Week, I thought I'd give yet another tuning a try, and this one seems to be able to hit the notes without jumping around octaves and doing finger gymnastics (it's at least doable, anyway, not necessarily easy).

Polly Put the Kettle On isn't usually in a modal key, but this week's Tune of the Week appears to be in Gm. If I knew more, I could confirm the scale is G aeolian. To play it the most easily I used cello banjo and brought the notes down four steps, so that's even more complex. I suppose this is all a good cognitive exercise to keep my brain a bit spry, which it needs.

A pretty, blonde haired, young woman walked into a Caltex gas station in Mitchell, Australia. She was a 22 year old British backpacker who was visiting the country on a prolonged holiday. Video footage shows her walking in, wearing flip flops on her feet, a purple sundress and matching purple bruises on her face and body. She walks up to the cashier with tears rolling down her face and tells the woman that she doesn't have any money to pay. She then walks out and drives off. The cashier calls the police and gives them a description of the woman and the car. Minutes later, Elisha Greer's heart dropped as she was being pulled over. No, the police didn't scare her. What did scare her, more than anything else , was not a what but a who. He was kneeling on the floor of the car, behind her seat, with a knife in his hand. Josh & Patrick sat down to continue the conversation around racism with Dorien Banks and Marcus Martin, two Black men in their early twenties that grew up in Atascadero. As they share their own personal experiences with racism, we discuss use of the “n-word” as well as Black Lives Matter and police interaction. The founding of Atascadero came up again, what it meant to be a colony, and the need for more diversity & inclusion. We talked about the confederate flag and protesting vs. rioting. Several resources were mentioned in the episode and links can be found below. We are very grateful to Dorien & Marcus for having this conversation with us and sharing their perspective. Racism is real in our community and we can all do our part to put an end to it, together. We look forward to continuing this conversation and expanding our understanding even further. His platform makes it easy to track your portfolio, exchange trades, tax obligations, and puts it front and center in their Compass dashboard.
