We’ve already had a record number of named storms -- from Arthur to Marco -- and at least five people were killed as Hurricane Isaias swept up the East Coast several weeks ago. FAQ City wants to hear from you. What questions do you have about hurricanes and hurricane season? What do you need to know to feel prepared for a storm--especially during a pandemic? Join myself and Long Island resident Sarah Teper talk about PSEG's awful response to Hurricane Isaias.
With the peak of hurricane and wildfire seasons upon us, government agencies and aid organizations will need to shelter potentially thousands of storm and fire evacuees. How will they do it without spreading the COVID-19 virus? How will they keep key emergency workers healthy? In today’s episode, host Jesse Roman talks with Luke Beckman, a director at the Red Cross Pacific Division, to learn how the organization revamped its response plans and operations ahead of the massive wildfires now striking Northern California (3:32). Then, Robby Dawson talks with Anna McRay, an emergency manager in North Carolina, about how her county prepared for and responded to Hurricane Isaias in August (31:08). Both McRay and Beckman share lessons learned from responding to these incidents during the pandemic—including several new strategies that will likely stay even after the pandemic is over.

Too many people spend time trying to fit into the molds in front of them. How do I change to get the promotion? What does "Leadership" expect from me? What should I be doing for work? It's time to reverse that! You have to stop shoulding on yourself and instead, write down some of the big-ass life you want (and deserve). A Future Diary is Erin's non-woo-woo way of coaching people to manifest what they want. To see and feel the life they deserve. And then effing go get it! It's another fun-filled week with Erin Hatzikostas and Nicole Licata Grant, as they sit down for another "How was your week?" episode. Erin returns from a trip to Michigan with her family and a huge power outage in the wake of Tropical Storm, Isaias. She and Nicole discuss the effects of the storm, amid a global pandemic and also a heatwave - because 2020 is the year that keeps on giving. Erin asks Nicole to discuss how her job changes when an event such as Hurricane Isaias happens. Nicole talks about the struggle she feels between working on the ground level in emergency response, a role she loves, but now also being in a more senior position. Erin then asks her to think about which of these roles she prefers, and which she would choose if she had to. Nicole talks about recent difficulties at work, with new management and new situations, trying to find a mix between what she thinks is right, what others think are right, and trying to apply some of Erin's coaching and ideas. Erin asks Nicole a question that maybe many of our listeners have thought before - what keeps her there? Do you ever feel like the kid who wasn't picked for the team at P.E? Well, Nicole does. But maybe there's more to it than that. Maybe there were cliques who were bullies and wouldn't pick you, but maybe you never even liked the sport, maybe you arrived late and didn't really want to be there. Erin talks Nicole through her coaching tips, and writing a Future Diary - not to figure out how to get what you want, the steps that need to be taken, or what problems could arise along the way, but simply to write down your dreams. What is your perfect day? Even if 50% of it sounds ludicrous because you're on a yacht somewhere doing something you never expected, just write it, dream it. Would the residents of Bertie County have been safer during Hurricane Isaias if there were more affordable housing options?
“Electrify everything” isn’t just a good slogan. It’s the fastest way to decarbonize and create tens of millions of jobs -- and it can be done using off-the-shelf technology. A respected squad of researchers did the math on a swap-out of every aging boiler, truck and power plant -- and replacing it with equipment that won’t burn fossil fuels ever again. We’ll dig into a new analysis from Rewiring America. Then, BP has more details around its plan to become the first oil major to transition away from the hydrocarbon-drilling business. What do they amount to? Can the company actually do it this time?Last, PSEG promised to do right by its customers after failing them during Hurricane Sandy. So why were Long Islanders left sweltering for days after a few high winds from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias? And what does it portend in a future of stronger storms? Last week, Hurricane Isaias brushed past the Lowcountry but left a mess in the Grand Strand. And while it didn't prompt evacuations or major panic, Isaias was a clear reminder of the kind of storm season that's been brewing in the Atlantic Ocean. It was the earliest "I" storm on record, meaning eight other named storms had already formed before it this year. During a typical year, named storms would only be on the letter "B" by early August. The Aug. 3 storm also made 2020 the sixth straight year that a tropical storm has affected the Palmetto State's coast. It traced a similar path to a couple close calls for the Charleston area in recent years: Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and Hurricane Dorian last year.Senior projects reporter Tony Bartelme and reporter Chloe Johnson, who writes about the coastal environment and climate change, were able to offer some insight on what could be ahead in the months of hurricane season that are still yet to come.We also talked about how the pandemic could play into evacuation plans if South Carolina ends up in the potential path of a larger storm this year — and what we should be considering now so that we're prepared.Listen now to find out.

Questions: Tell us about yourself. Where were you born? Where did you go to school? Who are you people's dem? Tell us, from your perspective how do you see Grand Bahama's history? How do you see Grand Bahama's present? How do you see Grand Bahama's Future? How do you see Grand Bahama's position as supposed to the rest of The Bahamas? Is The Grand Bahama Port Authority the enemy/oppressor? Is Grand Bahama the forgotten island? What made you want to venture into politics Nevar? Tell us about your political career so far Nevar With all 5 seats of parliament for Grand Bahama being held by the current Minnis administration, is it fair to draw the conclusion that they have done nothing for Grand Bahama? Is it fair to say that The PLP and The FNM are 2 wings of the same bird? In the upcoming general elections, why should Grand Bahama, and by extension the rest of The Bahamas give the PLP a chance to recapture leadership of the country? With the recent passing of Hurricane Isaias, NEMA decided to give an all-clear for the entire Bahamas even when Abaco and Grand Bahama were still feeling the effects, albeit the tail end of the storm. The sentiments on social media were that Grand Bahama was basically the step-child of The Bahamas. Now for the years, I've been here there have always been whispers of Grand Bahama becoming its own independent nation and succeeding from The Commonwealth, maybe because it was the frustration of the situation but those whispers seemed a little louder after that all-clear was given. How feasible & plausible is it for Grand Bahama to succeed from The Commonwealth and become its own independent nation or territory?
The current COVID-19 global pandemic has certainly accelerated many changes within the veterinary and pet care professions. This week, we tackle the emerging trend of pet parents purchasing veterinary medical devices and in-home diagnostics and what this means for our profession. … Hosts Dr. Ernie Ward and Beckie Mossor, RVT discuss a quiet shift in pet parents beginning to do more in-home self pet care due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both agree there are plenty of opportunities and upsides for the veterinary profession, but there are potential risks, too. … Dr. Ward shares his recent experiences replacing cars lost during Hurricane Isaias and how there are lessons to be learned by veterinarians. He also explains why he believes Carvana can teach veterinary clinics how to provide better service for pet parents. … Beckie reviews her recent discussions with veterinary medical device manufacturers and what the next couple of years may hold for in-home veterinary medicine. … Viewfinders, this is another important topic that few are talking about. We believe it’s important to inform you about these issues and for our profession to be proactive in communicating with pet parents. … What do you think about this trend? Asset or liability? Benefit or detriment? … As Beckie says, “If the pet benefits, it’s our duty to figure out a way to help them get it.” … Thanks for listening, Viewfinders! If you have a tough topic you’d like us to tackle, let us know! Stay safe and give your pets a hug from us!

This past week, the strong winds and heavy rains of Hurricane Isaias moved up through the east coast, uprooting thousands of trees. Mother Nature is reflecting what many of us are experiencing personally and collectively, the aftermath of not just the physical storm, but of the pandemic and racial injustices that continue to challenge and shake us. The force of the storm captured in the verbs: uprooting, toppling, crushing, crashing, knocking out, blocking, snapped, dangling and scattered are not so foreign to our own state of mental health these days. In this episode I focus on the concept of white guilt, which can manifest in different ways; reflecting on childhood memories, early awareness of injustice, and a drive to have my white guilt lead to action. I also humbly admit that white guilt got the better of me in a recent interaction with a podcast guest. Staying honest, vulnerable and committed to learning. Enjoy the podcast! Hurricane Isaias has come and gone, leaving in its wake lots of damage and clean up. Over 100 tornado warnings were issued as Isaias came ashore, mostly in the right front quadrant. The tropics have quieted some as NOAA has released an update seasonal outlook. If the season remains as active as it has been, we could be venturing into even more history making events. We are thirteen named storms away from moving into the greek alphabet, which has only happened one other time.

We had some issues related to damage from Hurricane Isaias, but we muddled through somehow, thanks be to God :) Reading 1 Kings 19:9-18 At Horeb, the mount of God, Elijah came to a cave, and spent the night there. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.” He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.” Then the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael as king over Aram. Also you shall anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. Whoever escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill; and whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill. Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” Music Amazing Grace, Jimmy Cousins Come My Way, My Truth, My Life, Blackfriar Music Poor Wayfaring Stranger, Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra
