Mary Morrison joins me as my guest on the podcast. Mary is a former MBA student of mine when I taught economics at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute based in the Seattle area. Mary is a culture creator, a leadersship coach, organizational wellness consultant, sustainability designer/entrepreneur, clinical acupuncturist and certificed Zhineng Qigong teacher. Mary holds an MBA in Sustainable Business from the first institute to offer a green MBA, as well as a Master of Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly the Tai Sophia Institute). Her undergraduate work was in behavioral science and psychology from the University of Maine. “The skills are not theory nor abstractions. In the moment, you notice your body (or not). That is reliable. Theory is great for many things, but to be effective with other humans in the moment of upset or change, being present is where it matters.” www.howweheal.info --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mark-anielski/message
Mary Morrison joins me again for Part 2 of our fascinating conversation about the value of emotions, reframed as wisdom, emotional reactivity in service to our vision and mission, and ancient cultural wisdom including the Chinese and native Turtle Islanders (North America). Mary is a culture creator, a leadership coach, organizational wellness consultant, sustainability designer/entrepreneur, clinical acupuncturist and certified Zhineng Qigong teacher. In Her Own Words “It is not only ‘body' or ‘embodiment' practices, it is sense perception. It is incredibly simple and very nuanced at the same time. And I have yet to have a client say they have completely mastered any of the skills. It is an ongoing practice that attunes you to your power.” Learn more about Mary and her work at www.howweheal.info --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mark-anielski/message

And So, She Left: Wisdom from Women Beyond the Corporate World
Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of assault and harassment that some listeners may find upsetting. Terri Phipps and Mary Morrison are no strangers to the challenges women face when using ridesharing services. Having traveled frequently during their corporate careers, Terri and Mary experienced their fair share of uneasy rideshare situations, prompting them to take on different personas, stay on the lookout for potential dangers, and prepare for worst-case scenarios. And they quickly realized they were far from the only ones. Driven by the need to create a safer environment for both women passengers and drivers, Terri and Mary founded Wilma, a ridesharing platform specifically designed for women driving women. For Terri and Mary, Wilma is more than just a business endeavor—it's a project with the potential to provide women with a fear-free public transportation option. They talk about their personal connection to Wilma, share traumatic stories from women rideshare passengers that continue to motivate them to make a difference, and offer some of the best advice for women entrepreneurs we've heard so far. Learn more about Wilma. In this episode, we cover:The ridesharing stories that convinced Terri and Mary to start WilmaThe true extent of the systemic problems surrounding ridesharing for women, and why they can be difficult to convey to menThe importance of acknowledging and addressing "trauma bubbles"Why your personal connection to your venture is crucial to your successManaging your deepest fears as an entrepreneur, and how to enjoy the process of scaling your venture Quote of the Week:"No problem can stand the assault of sustained effort." - Terri Phipps Hosted by Katherin Vasilopoulos. This is the third episode in a series hosted by Brigitte Legault, which features women role models in Alberta Tech. This series will explore how women experience the tech sector in Alberta. Women hold 60% of STEM degrees, however only hold 25% of ICT roles and 57% of women in mid-level tech roles are leaving their positions. Through this series we will explore what unique challenges they are facing, what inspires many to stay, and we will highlight their innovations, initiatives, and contributions to women's equity in our sector. Thank you for listening to the Leaders, Innovators and Big Ideas podcast, supported by Rainforest Alberta. The podcast that highlights those people who are contributing to and/or supporting the innovation ecosystem in Alberta. Host: Brigitte Legault leads the Rainforest Alberta movement in Calgary as the Community Manager and also serves the startup community through strategy and growth consulting services. She is passionate about growing the tech sector upon a culture of trust, diversity, and collaboration and activates this work through strategic ecosystem initiatives, learning experiences, storytelling, and community engagement. Guest: Mary Morrison considers herself fortunate to have raised a family in YYC while pursuing her passion for solving real-world problems in executive roles throughout her corporate and founder life. One of her significant commitments is Wilma, a project that Mary shares with Terri Phipps, co-founder, and CEO. Mary believes that ensuring the safety of women and gender-diverse people is crucial and has a significant impact on everyone. She finds it disheartening to learn that many women who drive in the gig economy carry weapons and often do not report assaults. Additionally, sexual violence among ride-hail riders is one of the most underreported criminal activities in cities, and this fact cannot be ignored. Wilma was created to eliminate the guesswork and provide hassle-free travel from point A to B. The project is an inspiration for Mary and Terri, and they are motivated by the impact they will have. They believe that their innovative approach will lead people to question, "What did women do before Wilma?" Please be sure to share this episode with everyone you know. We've been in a meetings where people say "is this really a problem? To 30 million people it's been a problem and those people have families and they go to work and they live in communities so yes, it's a problem and you are probably very fortunate if it hasn't impacted you yet" "Wilma is attracting people who say, this is a problem and I want to be part of the community that is solving it." On co-founder dynamics, Mary says "You have to test for understanding and you have to test for outcomes." Credits... Welcome to the Notes from Your Acupuncturist podcast! In this episode I interview Mary Morrison, Licensed Acupuncturist, qigong practitioner and lifelong wellness coach. Mary has a lot to say about how people heal, and we'd all be wise to listen. Mary and I first connected through Facebook of all places, and from our very first zoom meeting I knew I had met a kindred spirit. When I decided to start a podcast, I knew I wanted to have her on as one of my first guests. Mary is trained as an acupuncturist, but her true passion is helping people uncover their healing potential through the practices she teaches. In this podcast episode, we discuss what it means to heal, how discomfort can be a source of power, flipping the narrative on pain and illness, learning to trust the wisdom of the body, how to show up as a healing presence for yourself and others. I could have talked to her for hours. You can learn more about Mary's work, including her in-person and virtual services, and the How You Heal and We Are Medicine Women podcasts, at www.howweheal.info.I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!Love and gratitude,Your AcupuncturistThanks to Mary Morrison for the conversation, and to AudioCoffee for the music in this episode. If you enjoyed this podcast episode, please consider becoming a paid subscriber to Notes from Your Acupuncturist. The future is bright in Coleraine as Joan Taylor begins to open up to Mary Morrison... through an unlikely series of events. Michael and Ryan talk about what makes this episode's dual storyline worth it in this review of episode 67 (5-8) of Down Gilead Lane, “Brighter Days.” The two hosts discuss the intricate interweaving of a seemingly frivolous plot about Haley, the story of Tom Richter post-Grace, and Joan's journey of faith. We're fixin' the leafblower! In this review, Michael and Ryan discuss a great thematic study of telling the truth in love in episode 16 (2-3) of Down Gilead Lane, “Truth and Lies.” Among the subjects talked about are how this scenario is perfect for Timmy at his age, great acting from Nathan Hekman, different ways Beth Culp uses Mary Morrison to resolve conflicts, and the interpretations of Grace's advice to Michael about Maya's hurts. The review series of Season 1 continues with Michael and Ryan's review of episode 8 (1-8) of Down Gilead Lane, “Sick of It.” Under the microscope this time are the comparisons between the themes of taming the tongue and the value of hard work, how Justin and Michael Morrison are (for Michael and Ryan) uncomfortably realistic, and how Mary Morrison gives a great counterexample to her sons' concepts of work. This week, it is a warm return to Ufologist, investigator and publisher Philip Mantle to discuss his latest book, Investigating UFO's: A Young Person's Guide. Philip has over 40 years of experience and has utilised this knowledge in his book to give anyone new to the subject a solid base of cases to work upon. With the book being split into decades since the 1940's, it offers 3 key cases per decade. Yet, what sets the book apart is that Philip has re-introduced some cases that had simply fallen off the radar in the world of Ufology in favour of the usual cases we here about over and over again. As such, we discuss 4 of the cases in the book, two of which are personal favourites, the incredible experience of the Knowles family incident that occurred on a drive across the Naribor plain in Australia in 1988 and the Reverend William Gill's frankly remarkable case from Papua New Guinea in the late 1950s. We also look at the case of Maurice Masse and his missing lavender and the terrifying experience of Mary Morrison in Scotland from 1996. You can find more about the cases we discuss on the links below: The Knowles family Reverend William Gill Maurice Masse Mary Morrison Flying Disk Press can be found here: Thank you as always to Philip for joining me today.
