The Movie Bar, Episode 7: ...Ace Attorney Walks Into the Bar! *Note - if your download of this episode is messed up (sound effects in the wrong place, half an hour of dialogue mis-aligned around the 85 minute mark), please delete and re-download the episode to fix the issue! **Content warning - this episode contains mild swearing and references to violence, including non-graphic mentions of murder. The Diad and Bedroth cross the ocean to the Land of the Rising Sun with their first international film, and they're not alone! Jason Arriola of Games and Junk joins the guys to analyze Ace Attorney, a Japanese film adaptation of Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten, known in the United States as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney . Directed by Takashi Miike from a screenplay by Takeharu Sakurai and Sachiko Oguchi, Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban in Japan) stars Hiroki Narimaya as Phoneix Wright, Mirei Kiratani as Maya Fey, and Takumi Saitoh as Miles Edgeworth, as Phoenix, an up-and-coming defense attorney, faces a series of opponents (including Edgeworth himself) while also dealing with the death of his friend and colleague, Mia Fey (played by Rei Dan). Mia's sister, Maya, who is initially charged with the Mia's murder before being acquitted thanks to Phoenix's defense, begins assisting Phoenix when he takes his next case. In a turn(about) of events, Phoenix's opponent in Maya's murder trial, the famed (and feared) prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, is also charged with murder! And this case has ramifications that go all the way back to the mysterious death of Miles's father, Gregory (Takehiro Hira) and the downfall of Maya's family name after her mother, the medium Misty Fey (Kimiko Yo) provides mystical (and mistaken) evidence for the mysterious DL-6 case. What's more, to prove Miles innocent, Phoenix must win a case against Miles's one-time mentor, Manfred von Karma (Ryo Ishibashi), who hasn't lost a single case in his 40-year career! Confused? Intrigued? So are we! Will Phoenix emerge victorious and prove that Miles is innocent? Is Miles innocent to begin with? Or will The Judge (Akira Emoto) find the young Edgeworth guilty in spite of Phoenix Wright's OBJECTIONS? Join us (and Jason!) at the bar and find out! Hold it! For Ace Attorney fans, it was a long wait since the last mainline game in the series was released in 2016. But now, with the recent release of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles in July 2021, Ace Attorney looks to be getting the attention in the West that it deserves! Though the series is known for its chaotic courtroom battles, bizarre witnesses, and unique “Japanifornia” setting, many would argue that it's the incredible music that ties everything together. With its brilliant character themes and dramatic courtroom suites, the music of Ace Attorney brings the larger-than-life battles between defense attorneys and prosecutors to life. Join Jono, Niki, and Patrick as they delve into the tunes that make the Ace Attorney series and its characters so unforgettable! After taking a longer break than I intended, Rock Out With Your Cart Out is back! This episode, I’m joined by Kemikziel. Kemi’s speciality is making her own Game Boy music that sounds like it could be from a game you grew up playing. We listen to some of our favorite tracks from other artists, […]

In this week’s episode of the show: Peter explores the emotional gut-punches that exist throughout the soundtrack of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future and Joe has no objection to Masakazu Sugimori's courtroom work on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Objection! The record will show that Jake and Alex are discussing a song from the popular Ace Attorney on this week's episode. Be a key witness to discussion about what makes video game music compelling. Listen in horror as Jake murders a New Zealand accent using nothing but his own voice. Hold it! and stick around for our bonus segment, "Hate-Bit" where we discuss video game music that frustrates us. Covers in this episode by: Gyakuten Meets Orchestra, Metamorphosis Jazz Band, Magical Trick Society, Smooth McGroove, Retro Crowd, Video Game Piano Players, The Greatest Bits, Video Games Live, and Matt Castilho.
NOP Host Chris Bashen recently relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles...but before leaving, he recorded a series of nerdy topics with some of his best guests and friends...... Bill Nielsen (of So Many Bits) joins me on the mic to chat about Capcom's visual novel adventure...Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I've never played this series, so its a chance for me to learn about dramatic Japanese laws, investigations, and prosecutions all carried out by defense attorney Phoenix Wright. Bill guides me on our discussion, as we talk about which game in the series is the best, where newcomers should start, and if the games are worth more than one play though. By the end of it, I certainly have...no objections. Give us a listen! Music Selections from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney OST composed by Masakazu Sugimori, owned by Capcom and is included under fair use protection.
EXTRAS from Stardust[2007] with extra guest RILEY BOWMAN Don't spend all those Super Movie Ball EXTRAS in one place. Wait, there's more?! These guys just don't know when to quit. Well everyone, I guess there is even more Super Movie Ball for ya'. Apparently the space train wreck isn't over. Seems like it has smashed into a small town's only water tower, another space train, an orphanage(no one was hurt), a fruit stand, a regular train, a bunch of cardboard boxes, a school(again, no one was hurt and all the children cheered), a razor blade factory, a lemon juice warehouse, a pillow manufacturer and then right into a black hole. Showdown[1993] with our guest RILEY BOWMAN Battle Royale...with Cheese!! Normally this is where I describe in creative detail the outlandish exploits of the Super Movie Ball crew. But these guys have just gone off the rails. Listen to this extra special, extra long and extra funny episode of Mack and Peter nearly killing each other and their guest Riley Bowman sitting ringside with a bag of popcorn enjoying the show...and then joins in to the madness. Just listen if don't believe me. #SuperMovieBall #Showdown #BillyBlanks #CornChipsIsLaw #MovieReview #MartialArts #KarateKid Follow Us: twitter = supermovieball instagram = supermovieball Email Us: gmail = supermovieball@gmail.com More of Us: web = supermovieball.com Music By: Intro = Original_Music By Joe D'Agostino QotW_ = By Riley Bowman 2T1L_ = By RoccoW Bkgnd = By Stephen Edwards, Masakazu Sugimori, Naoto Tanaka Outro = By RoccoW & xyce
Think about what a racing video game sounds like and you'll come up with an answer pretty quickly. But what about VGM tracks that kinda-sorta-maybe sound like they're from racing games when they're not? What if you heard a piece of video game music out of context and had someone suggest it was from a racing game? Could you picture what kind of track you'd be racing around?
