We dive into the overworld music of Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI (Terra's Theme!) including some alternative overworld themes that show Nobuo Uematsu's growth as a musician and storyteller. Listening materials include Celtic Moon & Dear Friends specialty albums plus we compare once again to Studio Ghibli as well as Xenogears and Eiyuden Chronicle.Apotheosis from Journey || Guitar Cover by Airship OverdriveFinal Fantasy 4 Celtic Moon | Main ThemeFinal Fantasy 5 Dear Friends | Ahead On Our WayBastian's Happy Flight | The NeverEnding Story"Path of The Wind" by Joe Hisaishi | My Neighbor TotoroDark World (From "Final Fantasy VI")Young and the Restless Intro 1996Xenogears Creid | BaltoEiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes Headquarters
This classic piece from Final Fantasy III is one of Nobuo Uematsu's earliest musical triumphs. We listen to multiple versions of Elia or Aria, Maiden of Water, think about how they make us feel, and do our best to explain how it has stood the test of time.#finalfantasy #jrpg #finalfantasymusic #videogamemusic

2026 Show Notes Adendum: This was the very first "official episode" of Ch 2 - approx 9 months after Hugues and I's "fun one-off", which at the time had no strings attached! PRODUCTION CAVEATS: Just like the 2019 one-off, this was recorded using an M-Audio MobilePre XLR-to-USB audio interface and AudioTechnica AT2020 condenser mic, and was recorded down in a very echoey basement room. Also, I hadn't [yet] started editing out the "ums" yet. However, unlike the 2019 one-off, I had moved onto Linux by this point, so it was produced in a mix of Audacity and Ardour, rather than in GarageBand and was produced on a 2017 Dell Latitude 7480 laptop (docked to an external monitor, KBM, and sound system) rather than on a 2014 Mac Mini. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Original 2020 Show Notes------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's the Dawning of a new Era! 2026 Show Notes Addendum: If you're a NintenDomain listener who is new to NNR from Trey and I's "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel Trey" one-off simulcast collaboration, then this rerun should be uniquely interesting to you! So, "Channel Trey" was a one-off between Trey and I, in the style of an episode of the now-defunct "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2" which I used to do with Hugues Johnson of Retro Game Club (so, another "so and so Johnson" out of Chicago), only with Trey at the mic instead of Hugues. It was in the exact style and format of Channel 2. Well, funnily enough, what went on to become Channel 2 also began life as a similar fun one-off between Hugues and I all the way back in December 2019. And here is that 2019 one-off. Hugues and I's 6yr earlier parallel to Trey and I's recent outing. This was before I knew I was AuDHD (Autistic + ADHD), and before I knew I possessed African and Jewish ancestry. It was also before I started editing out the "ums". But it's remarkable to me how "different yet the same" it feels to our official Ch 2 episodes which came later, or "Channel Trey" which rose from the ashes of the now-defunct Ch 2. PRODUCTION CAVEATS: At this point, I had not switched from Mac to Linux, so I was using Garageband in MacOS on a late 2014 Mac Mini. Also, I had not yet upgraded to the Focusrite 4i4 (3rd Gen) XLR-to-USB interface, still using the lesser M-Audio MobilePre, and had not yet upgraded to the RODE Podmic dynamic microphone, let alone my current Shure SM7B, but was still using my original AudioTechnica AT2020 condenser mic, and lastly, was recording in a very very echoey room with no noise cancellation. But apart from inferior hardware, software, and production techniques, and apart from this being my very first time ever doing something even remotely like this, the seeds of all NNR Channel 2 episodes, as well as the seeds of "Channel Trey" are all very much present here! This is where it all started: Channel 2, Channel Trey.....all of it! My intent for this month is to also rerun not only our very first official Ch 2 episode from Sept 2020, but also C1E16: "Songs with Words", the first episode of the last season, and what in my personal opinion is the very best Ch 2 episode of all, perhaps save for C2F, our "series finale". Also, if you look back to December 2025 on the NNR podcast feed, you can also catch C2E20: "...all good things...", our final non-retrospective episode of Ch 2. So, if your first experience with Nerd Noise Radio was "Channel Trey", then you'll get to hear a lot of the context behind that episode! In any case, enjoy the rogue one-off that became an entirely new Nerd Noise Radio program, which would ultimately culminate in yet another rogue one-off with Trey Johnson of NintenDomain!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Original show notes---------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- St. John of "Nerd Noise Radio" and Hugues Johnson of "Retro Game Club" (and "The Retro League" alum) join forces to cover and discuss some of their favorite pieces of VGM from the 2010's. It's about what you'd expect if you put Retro Game Club / The Retro League, Nerd Noise Radio, Legacy Music Hour, and an entire decade of VGM in a blender....ooh, or maybe the hadron collider! For the time-being, this is just a one-time "one-off" special, but if there is enough demand from either, or especially both of our respective listener pools, then we're open to making this an ongoing (albeit occasional, and likely irregular) thing. "Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2", maybe? ;-) Anyway, the power is yours, listeners! Make your voices heard! In the meanwhile? Enjoy! Hello Adventurers! Wait, is that how it goes for this? Does it even matter? Who knows! So this episode, theoretically a "bonus" episode, is actually a product of two years worth of work. In 2024, over the course of two different panels at MomoCon and KamiCon HAI (RIP), we had panels where we attempted to rank all the mainline Final Fantasies (plus two bonus games). As we had different people on each panel, we of course had two different rankings! What was a podcast to do? Well, all six of us got together to record One Final (Fantasy) Podcast to determine the final ranking. This is that episode! PS You may notice that we have not indicated if this is an OSMcast! or a Carbuncle Chronicle episode. That's because it's both! Almost all of the OSMcast! side, and all of The Carbuncle Chronicle side are in this, AND it covers Final Fantasy XIV to boot, so it made sense to just call it an episode for both. OSMnotesWhoo boy! This was a real pain to edit! But Basil also got real extra with the audio and music for the episode this time, so we hope you enjoy the half a year he took at poking and prodding this thing into Listenable Audio™. Anyroad, have some Time Cues:We start the OSMcast!ing – 00:00General Gabbing (Introductions and explaining The Process) – 02:04The Great Final Fantasy Ranking!Part I: Where we talk about all the Final FantasiesFinal Fantasy I - 04:44Final Fantasy II - 10:36Final Fantasy III - 17:06Final Fantasy IV - 21:45Final Fantasy V - 32:13Final Fantasy VI - 35:37Final Fantasy VII - 41:41Final Fantasy VIII - 49:56Final Fantasy IX - 53:49Final Fantasy X - 58:24Bonus Game: Final Fantasy Tactics - 01:05:00Final Fantasy XI - 01:09:05Final Fantasy XII - 01:11:48Bonus Game: Lost Odyssey - 01:15:58Final Fantasy XIII - 01:21:18Final Fantasy XIV - 01:27:30Final Fantasy XV - 01:34:24Final Fantasy XVI - 1:38:10Part II: Where we actually rank said Final FantasiesThe Battle Begins - 01:41:39The Battle Ends - 02:03:09Oh! Oh, and if you still use Spotify, go ahead and get on that mobile device and throw us some five stars there too. Tell your friends! As well, just like we mentioned when we do the OSMplugs, you can also join the Discord and support us on Patreon! PS If you have ever wanted some OSMmerch, feel free to check out our TeePublic page! Today is C1E100 for Theme Thursday, Dec 11th, 2025. Today is our final non-retrospective episode of Channel 1. We made it to 100! Today's episode is split into two halves: a) a massive pre-show that is actually about 18 minutes LONGER than the “episode proper”, and b) the “episode proper”. She was a lovely person, and through these accounts, it's not entirely too late to [at least sorta kinda] get to know her! She was my mom's sister's daughter - and if I'm being completely honest, she reminded me more of mom than of aunt Karen. I suppose, in a way, she was the closest thing my brother and I had to a sister. 2) Links to C1E1 and C2E20! I'll upload each this month as reruns. But meanwhile, here is the easiest way to hear them! a) Link to C1E1: https://terraplayer.com/shows/nerd-noise-radio/c1e1-press-start b) Link to C2E20: https://terraplayer.com/shows/nerd-noise-radio/ch-2-nerd-noise-game-club-c2e20-all-good-things Produced using a nearly equal mix of Audacity and Ardour in Fedora Workstation Linux on an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023) laptop with perhaps a little support from a Dell Latitude 7480 (running Fedora COSMIC Linux), a 2017-spec DIY gaming PC (running Bazzite Linux) or the Steam Deck (running Steam OS Linux). Recorded with a Shure SM7B XLR dynamic microphone on a RØDE PSA1+ boom arm through a Cloudlifter and a Focusrite 4i4 XLR-to-USB interface! The "Episode Proper" portion was recorded using Audacity in Fedora Workstation like the others, but was recorded using an M-Audio MobilePre XLR-to-USB audio interface and an AudioTechnica AT2020 microphone deliberately used improperly in order to emulate my much much poorer production techniques as of 2016. An AT2020 actually failed during this recording. Fortunately, I had a second AT2020, so I was able to finish the recording without substantial variation. The first line recorded with the second AT2020 was "I'm John Wedgeworth – thanks for listening." 2025 Rerun Notes: In anticipation of this month's incoming C1E99: "Listener Picks - vol 3", we are rerunning both previous installments of the Listener Picks trilogy this month! Today's rerun is the second installment, from December of 2021 And it is less of a sequel per se, and more of an omake (that is, more of an "outtakes" episode). While vol 1 was 40 tracks long and selected by 18 contributors, their total body of contributions was not 40, but instead, an absolutely insane 100!! Well, even in 2025, we'd never do an episode 100 tracks long! Such a mixtape could possibly hit 5hrs long, which is too long even for St. John! :-D So, what I did instead in 2018 was take the 100 and narrow it down to 40, with the 60 track remainder kept in reserve, intended for a Channel F "F-isode" to immediately follow as a bonus and feature the remaining 60. This bonus was to feature Trey Johnson of the NintenDomain and W.A.R.T. Radio podcasts as co-host, and be in the original format of W.A.R.T. Radio as a "return the favor" tribute to Trey in return for W.A.R.T. changing formats to match the NNR format. It was also going to feature an interview with a composer, spearheaded by Trey. But schedules did not align, and so the F-isode never happened! Today's rerun, eventually released years later in 2021 as a numbered "official" Ch 1 episode is essentially what that F-isode would've been - only with no interview (scheduling conflicts). Trey would still go on to co-host with me, though. Lastly, as always: all the usual caveats about how much worse my production quality was back in 2021 than it is today, and not to judge the current state of NNR production quality by this rerun. If you are new, and this is your first exposure to NNR, and you enjoyed the content, but were put off by the production, either go back and listen to a recent episode, such as C1E98 or C1E96....or perhaps even better, keep your eyes peeled for C1E99, which is basically this all over again, but at 2025's far improved production quality standards! In fact, in this case, the situation is even worse! My side of the recording session with Trey was lost, and so we had to fallback on his side of the Zoom call for my voice, where I was using a super cheap wireless headset. So my voice quality sounds especially terrible. My apologies if any of that detracts from this otherwise excellent and joyous outing! And with that, please enjoy the very non-standard-formatted - Listener Picks - vol 2, thanks again to Trey for lending his voice and talents in joining me to make this one happen, and please keep an eye out for the trilogy's incoming 3rd (and final) installment! Cheers! -------------------------------------------------------------- Original Show Notes: Today's Broadcast is C1E60, for Theme Thursday, December 23rd, 2021 - our final episode of our very non-standard two-year long “Season 4”. So it is fitting that we'd end such a wildly non-standard season - filled with primarily wildly non-standard content already - with such a dramatically non-standard Channel 1 episode. Today's episode abandons the customary Channel 1 “great big music block” mixtape format for a modified take on the original W.A.R.T. Radio format, featuring Trey Johnson of Nintendomain / W.A.R.T. Radio and St. John. Today's episode is also a “Lost Level”, as it was originally intended to be a Channel F bonus “F-isode” to supplement “C1E40 - Listener Picks - vol. 1” from December 2018, and was intended to release right after it, in a nearly identical presentation to what you receive today. As such, today's broadcast shall be “Listener Picks - vol. 2”. All music, other than the background music for the speaking portions was curated by listeners of the show, and are the roughly 60 remaining unused tracks from the pool of roughly 100 that were offered up for C1E40 in 2018, of which only 40 were used. p.s. We apologize for the uncharacteristically poor audio quality on St. John's speaking voice. Details available upon request, but the short version is that John had technical difficulties on his end of the recording with "the good mic", but fortunately, we had a lower-quality backup recording on Trey's end over Zoom using St. John's built-in laptop mic. The sound quality is diminished, but the content is still preserved. Hello Adventurers! Earlier this year we took a trip out to St. Louis, Missouri to check out a most excellent Final Fantasy XIV fan convention: GATEway FATE 2.0! This was their second year and we had heard so many good things about its first year, we were really excited to try it out for ourselves. And we were not disappointed. But don't take our word for it! Wait, no… Actually do take our word for it, but in audio form! This is a podcast, after all. Spoiler Levels: Larboard/Starboard Chicken Tenders with fries “are ready to fry!” This was just one of the many delicious food options that they had in their Last Stand food stall in the convention center. And yes, we do realize that we said both “delicious food options” and “in the convention center” within the same sentence! It was just one of the many things that really impressed us about this con. (Just wait till you hear us gush about the flooring!)OSMnotesGATEway FATE 2.0 was a lot of fun, and we are very much looking forward to GATEway FATE 3.0 on October17th-18th, 2026! rWotD Episode 3117: Earthbound Papas Welcome to random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia's vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Saturday, 15 November 2025, is Earthbound Papas. The Earthbound Papas are a Japanese progressive rock/metal band performing songs and interpretations of music from video games, notably including the Final Fantasy series. Nobuo Uematsu, the acclaimed composer of music in the Final Fantasy series, formed the band after his previous band, The Black Mages, disbanded in 2010. In addition to new arrangements of some Final Fantasy tracks, they have also arranged tracks from other projects that featured Uematsu as a composer and they have produced original compositions for the band's albums. In 2010, the Earthbound Papas were featured on the Distant Worlds II: More Music from Final Fantasy live orchestral release, in which they joined the orchestra for a performance of the song Dancing Mad from Final Fantasy VI.The band have also worked on Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and Megadimension Neptunia VII alongside internal Idea Factory composer Kenji Kaneko. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:50 UTC on Saturday, 15 November 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Earthbound Papas on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kajal.

Throughout the planning for this episode, we jokingly used the term "Electro-Bangers," with credit to panelist Rob White, knowing full well we wouldn't use it in the end. But then we figured... why not? This episode is full of excellent electronic music and they are all bangers, so there you have it. Some are from places you'd expect like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Stellar Blade, and Shin Megami Tensei V, but others may surprise you!We were also supposed to encourage you to revisit Rhythm Encounter 119 - RPG Dance Party, but since we all got too invested in today's picks, consider THIS your reminder to listen to that episode as a followup. Final Fantasy 12 has some devastatingly beautiful music, and only one single song on the entire soundtrack was written by Nobuo Uematsu. The rest was done by Hitoshi Sakimoto, with some additional contributions by Masaharu Iwata. While we all miss Nobuo Uematsu, Hitoshi Sakimoto absolutely nailed it on this soundtrack. It's incredible! Mike and Casen come out of this episode with an even higher opinion of this OST and a greater excitement to dive back into the game in the possibly near future.... **We're Now On Spotify**: https://open.spotify.com/show/4gIzzvT3AfRHjGlfF8kFW3 **Listen On Soundcloud**: https://soundcloud.com/resonantarc **Listen On iTunes**: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/state-of-the-arc-podcast/id1121795837 **Listen On Pocket Cast**: http://pca.st/NJsJ Patreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/resonantarc Subscribe Star: https://www.subscribestar.com/resonant-arc Twitter: https://twitter.com/resonantarc Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/resonantarc Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/resonantarc TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@resonantarc
Hello Adventurers! Did you know that Final Fantasy XIV is the fourteenth mainline Final Fantasy game? It's true! In fact there were a whole thirteen other games that came before it, if you can believe it. So for this episode, we are talking about the first three. But it's been a minute since some of us (Basil) has played the first three games, and we needed some help. Some fresh eyes on these games, some eyes that really know how to grind out some gear. If you haven't figured it out yet, our special guests for this episode are none other than Garrett and Kyle from Grinding Gear! Spoiler Levels: Chicken Fettuccine “Flat, thick pasta smothered in a rich cream sauce with tender slices of chicken thigh.” This food that offers bonuses to Critical Hit, Vitality, and Skill Speed was introduced in patch 5.4 Futures Rewritten during the Shadowbringers expansion and also included the Matoya's Relict dungeon! You know, Matoya! From Final Fantasy (I)!OSMnotesOnce again we want to think Garrett and Kyle for joining us! Have you heard of them before? They're on YouTube! They're pretty great, you should watch them. Also, while we were chatting, they announced the new All Saint's Wake event starting this Friday? That's the day right before GATEway FATE! Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy …
Incluso escucharemos a Swartzenegger, Arnie ! Today we highlight a composer and games that don't often appear on the show. Naoshi Mizuta's music credits span 30 years, and much of that time has been with Square Enix leading the charge on Final Fantasy XI's soundtrack. That Final Fantasy XI, which launched in 2002 on PC and the PlayStation 2 (TWO!), is still running today is a feat in itself. But so are Mizuta's continued efforts to create music for it and many other games over that time. Today we feature several different types of FFXI tracks among other great works by this talented composer and arranger.Featuring: Mike Salbato, Hilary Andreff, Audra Bowling, Patrick Gann; Edited by Jono LoganTracklistThirteensies0:13:11 - Eternal Winds - The Dead Dunes (English Ver.) Hello Adventurers! Well, here we are again. There has been a brand new patch, and we are here to talk about it all! Well… at least a lot of it, anyroad. We cover some of the less spoiler-y parts of patch 7.3 The Promise of Tomorrow, before really digging into spoilers talking about the MSQ, dungeon, the trial, and more! That more includes a bunch of things that has just happened, but also things that are happening right now… But also in the future? This podcast contains multitudes, and we welcome you to come listen.Spoiler Levels: DAM! This rainbow energy beverage will allegedly bestow the drinker with metaphorical fangs to gnaw through any challenge and do their DAM-dest. Excessive consumption is ill-advised… But only if you haven't filled yourself up with all that Patch 7.3 MSQ goodness! If it is the case that you have, you're free and clear to listen away.
