She has more than 20 years of experience as an ob-gyn with expertise in pediatric and adolescent gynecology and as an educator for medical students, residents and colleagues. I don't know about you, but motherhood goes in phases of panic and preparation. One phase informs the specifics around the panic and the preparation. For example, you get pregnant. Then, the research begins. What prenatal vitamins should I take? What kind of birth do I want? What kind of care provider do I want? What should I put on my baby registry? All the questions, all the preparation around the nursery and the buying of the parenting books and all the things. Then the baby comes, and you move into a new phase: why is the baby spitting up? How do I get my baby to sleep? What kind of nap schedule does my baby need to be on? When do I start solids? What do I start with? How much should they be eating? When should they be crawling? When should they start walking? Then you move into toddlerhood and find yourself furiously consulting with parenting books and blogs and podcasts about toddler behavior and how to manage it, and developmental stages, and how to navigate them.Well, first comes marriage (or the relationship or the donor), then comes the baby, then comes: how the heck do I talk to my child about puberty. Ok, maybe not in that order, but the point is: we move from being positively consumed by all the things in pregnancy and infancy and toddlerhood and then BAM! Your child is asking you about boobs and why you're bleeding from your butt (because they're in the bathroom with you 24/7, even when you have your period, and they have questions). They may even begin touching themselves and you find yourself flustered trying to find the words to explain to them that we do not touch ourselves in public. And then - oh GOD - how do we talk to our kids about pleasure? And when do we do that? And oh my goodness - when do their boobs come in? And when does their period start? And how on earth do I talk to them about this?If you feel flustered around talking to your children about puberty, today's episode is going to be one that you must save and come back to over and over and over again. Talking to our kids about puberty isn't easy, but it's necessary. And since we want to empower our children around their bodies - not just because of all the body image stuff they are going to be exposed to, but also for very practical reasons like bodily autonomy and sexual abuse prevention - we need to get comfortable talking about puberty with them. Ok, maybe it won't be comfortable, but we need to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable as we learn to talk to our kids about their bodies.Today, I'm joined by board certified pediatrician and chief medical officer and co-founder of Girology, Dr. Trish Hutchison. Girlology is a digital health platform with our 500 educational videos for parents and their daughters about every topic under the sun when it comes to puberty. Dr. Trish co-founded Girology with her colleague, Dr. Melissa Holmes. Dr. Holmes is a board certified gynecologist with a specialty in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. In short, you couldn't have two more qualified people running a digital health platform about puberty. If you have sons, there is Guyology. So fear not - today you will unlock everything you need to know about talking to your kids abouFollow along on Instagram @themomfeedpodcast Sign up for our newsletter for weekly inspiration and advice on motherhood and beyond.Remember to subscribe to the show if you don't already! xoxo

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Buffalo Bills beat reporter Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News on a barrage of topics heavily focused on the Buffalo Bills and the start of NFL free agency this week. The Bills shocked a lot of people this week by re-signing Matt Milano, Darryl Williams and Jon Felciano to contracts before they even hit the open market. Jay explains the thinking that went into the signings, how they factor into the present and future and what these deals say about the organization and Brandon Beane's ability to get things done and keep the core nucleus of this team together. They also spend time talking about several potential Bills free agents targets as well as plenty of other teams around the league as well as speculating on a few players the Bills may be interested in. Patrick also checks in on Jay's family and a discussion on how life in the Skurski household changed during Covid with both Jay and his wife, WGRZ-TV's Melissa Holmes working in the media. They also completely rail on the Buffalo Sabres for continuing to embarrass themselves and a fan base quickly detaching from the team. The Sabres lost at home on Monday night to Washington, 6-0, marking the fourth time in their last five home games they've been shut out. Miller, Entrepreneurs Brandon and Melissa Holmes At the beginning of the show, I'll discuss several recent articles recently published by LEDE News, including the FAKE NEWS series, my Open Letter about an anonymous letter, the opening of a new treatment center in Brilliant, and the sale of a grocery store in South Wheeling. W.Va. Del. One example is the $2-per-week User Fee that is paid by employees working in Wheeling and is earmarked for public safety and infrastructure … but some state lawmakers wish to eliminate the system in the Mountain State. Journalist John W. Miller is the founder of Moundsville.org, a blog website that features not only Marshall County's largest city but the entire region, as well. John will join me to discuss his recent food tour in the Upper Ohio Valley and what stories he plans to tell in the future. A new business has opened in Martins Ferry and Brandon and Melissa Holmes will tell us about the process the East Ohio city has in place for other entrepreneurs to do the same this spring and summer. “Steve Novotney Lives” – 3-5 p.m. on Facebook Live (go to LEDE News Facebook page) and posted on Spotify, PodBean, Youtube, Google Podcasts, and Apple podcast (iTunes).

Tonight at 8:00 pm Eastern/Atlantic, 7:00 pm Central, 6:00 pm Mountain, 5:00 pm Pacific Chat with Melissa Holmes who was 25 yrs old when she met my first abuser. Everything was perfect for 5 years. When he proposed, she said YES; however, the minute she said, “Yes!” she noticed things starting to change slowly. Two years after they were married things, his obsessive behavior started to change the marriage and relationship negatively. The arguing began, along with the stalking, disrespect, and physical abuse. One day after she became fed up with nowhere to go, she left and took her survival chances. He started threatening to have her killed. Instead, he met his untimely death in May 2003 as a result of asthma. He never got a chance make good on his promise. After Melissa remained single for 5 years, she met her second abuser who was much worst. One year he broke her nose on my birthday; choked her; pulled her hair, pulled a gun out on her; and threatened to kill her and sit at home with her body until her son came home from school. He wanted to see the expression on her son’s face when he found my body. At that minute, Melissa knew she needed a game plan. She moved back to New York safely with her son 4 years ago. He stalked her for a year of the 4 years. Melissa stated, “I have never experienced such brutal treatment but knew I had to remain strong for my kids. I learned to turn my weakness into my strengths and Love Shouldn’t Hurt was born, and helping others in dv [sic] situations to know they’re not alone in this fight. Someone does care and her name is Melissa Holmes.” Love Shouldn't Hurt, Domestic Violence Awareness & Support Group (LSH) Visit Melissa’s site at: http://glamorousgorja.wix.com/lshdv
