Gretchen Keskeys' speaking and music ministry began with a prayer.   She was raising her young children and watching the show “Intervention.” As she was hurting for these people who were deep in addiction and self destruction, she noticed they all mostly had the same background: Abused, neglected and somehow abandoned (often through parental alcoholism and drug addiction.) All were looking for value, love, security, peace. She would cry out to Jesus: “Oh if only these people knew You.” One day this turned into an earnest prayer as she knew deep in her heart she could minister to hurting people through her testimony of healing through Jesus Christ.Gretchen asked for God's will and help and He helped her use all her gifts to share her testimony through music and appearances. Gretchen has recorded three full length Christian albums: “Walking in the Spirit,” “Pure Hope” and her latest, “Words of Truth.” God has opened up doors for her to share her testimony and music with the exact people she prayed about. She is a regular worship leader with Prison Fellowship at Folsom Women's Facility at Folsom Prison. She speaks and shares her music at churches, women's conferences and events. She has appeared on Christian TV and radio including: “Babbie's House,” CTN's “It's Time for Herman & Sharron,” Cornerstone Television Network's “Real Life,” CTN's “Bridges,” Dove Broadcasting's “Nite Line,” WATC-TV's “Magnify,” WREG-TV's “Live at 9,” Atlanta Live and “Christian Music Spotlight,” plus prominent radio programs such as “Game Changers with Lisa Faulkner,” “The Long Version with Fletcher Long,” “Kingdom News” and “Debra Evans in the Morning,” “Corner Café Radio,” “Pastor to Pastor” on KFIA AM and many others. Gretchen has a BA Journalism from California State University Sacramento and studied for four years at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. She has worked in television news as an associate producer, news writer and assignment editor at KOVR-TV and as a talk radio producer at KSTE-AM in Sacramento. She has had acting parts in television and commercials and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Gretchen has been married 20 years to her husband Randy who she credits for encouraging and supporting her ministry. He is a lifelong devoted Christian who also serves in ministry. They are blessed by three wonderful children, Ian, Megan and Grace, who is now in college.  Gretchen is passionate about her relationship with Jesus. The gratitude she has for the great healing He has done in her life pours out in the songs she writes and the message she shares. Jesus has healed her mind which was once paralyzed in fear and depression. Since that time thirty years ago, she lives her life in a deep lasting peace and joy in all her circumstances. She sees Jesus continuing to mold her life and she remains humbly in awe of all He has done. –  These are a few of her songs:Don't You Know (who you are child of God,) Then I Met Jesus, The Hope of Heaven

In one of our favourite episodes ever, Kate Thornton is joined by poet Lemn Sissay and actress Lisa Faulkner for a no-holds-barred discussion of foster care and adoption in the UK. Lemn and Lisa come from two vastly different experiences: Lemn was taken from his unwed mother and placed with a foster family who turned him out of their home when he was 12; Lisa adopted her daughter in 2006, and counts it as the best decision of her life. Skin from Skunk Anansie made headlines this summer when it was pointed out that she was the first black British artist to headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, not Stormzy. That was in 1999 and Skunk Anansie were five years into an incredible run of chart hits such as “Weak”, “Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)” and “Charity”. Skin discusses her childhood, her career and what it was like being the only black, gay woman in the 1990’s music scene. Lisa Faulkner was scouted as a model at 16 before becoming an actor at the age of 20. She was well known for roles in Dangerfield, Brookside and Holby City before famously meeting a grisly end in Spooks. In 2010 she won Celebrity Masterchef, has since become a food writer and now co-presents John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen with her fiancé John Torode. She has published the memoir Meant To Be: My Journey to Motherhood which describes the death of her mother when Lisa was just 16 and her years navigating infertility, IVF and adoption. Joel Golby’s book Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant: Modern Life as Interpreted by Someone Who is Reasonably Bad at Living It describes how the journalist, whose father died when he was 15, became an adult orphan at the age of 25 when his mother died. He talks about the impact of the sudden and unwelcome intrusion of adult responsibility into his otherwise hedonistic life. Dr Dean Burnett is a neuroscientist, author and stand-up comedian. He wrote the international best -sellers The Idiot Brain and The Happy Brain. His new book for teenagers is called Why Your Parents Are Driving You Up The Wall and What To Do About It. Game of Thrones author George RR Martin shares his Inheritance Tracks. Producer: Laura Northedge Editor: Eleanor Garland

Mel B, aka Scary Spice, was the feisty, in-your-face Spice Girl. She'd had solo albums, babies, marriages (plural) and many flows from over seas. But how can you beep-beep with no keys.  This week, Pod of the pops, respects the solo career of Melanie Janine Brown. This is Pod of the Pops _______________ Mel B, Scary Spice, was the first one to release a solo track. The impeccable “I want you back”. Technically, its  a Missy Elliott song. She called Scary and said I have a song for you. Mel flew out their and recorded the song and video in just a couple of days. Appeared on the soundtrack for “Why do fools fall in  love”, which Missy was executively produced by Missy Elliot.  Same soundtrack as Destiny Childs “get on the bus”.   UK number one single. Biggest thing, for me, was the hair. She had the long sleek straight hair. That was MIND BLOWING to me at the time. I grew up in Devon, I knew NOTHING about black hair. I couldn’t comprehend it. I thought she looked amazing.   In the video, Mel is pregnant with her first daughter – from back up dancer, Jimmy Gulzar, who also appears in the video. It was also his idea……   Married and had baby with a back up dancer. Why do popstars keep marrying their back up dancers? Mel B timeline. She meets him in March 98 on the tour, they get engaged in May, pregnant in June and married in September. That’s 6 months. 6. In that time I have just about learnt his name! Divorced in January 2000. So, they got a year of happy. Britney and K-Fed (plus this new one). Mariah Carey left James Packer for Brian Tanaka (I accidentally typed brain tanaka, which I doubt is his nickname) Jennifer Lopez has done it twice. She married her love don’t cost a thing dancer Chris Judd in 2001. Then she got with Caspar Smart from the Dance Again video. It was also him that suggested she cover Cameos “Word Up” as her second single. Another movie soundtrack – Austin Powers, Spy who shagged me (I don’t remember because Britney and Beyonce were in that one). She was Mel G for this video – and the video was a cartoon, so her best disguise yet. Got to number 13. Lowest charting Spice single of the 90s. Not kept down, goes into the world of presenting. I don’t remember; she had a BBC2 magazine show focusing on Black Music called Pure Naughty. She presented the MOBOS twice in 98 and 99. She also presented a TV talent show on ITV primetime called: This is my Moment. Basically, people ring up and sing down the phone. Then viewers vote on who they want to keep. Only lasted one series. I do not remember this at the time but I did find clips of her on youtube. Someone spent the time to string all her presenting clips together without anything else. Im so grateful. It was…… rigid. They all seem like such natural presenters in real life; but they need each other really. She wore a LOT of sequins. You know how sequins are everytwhere this year….. she was literally 19 years ahead of her time. Diff colour sequin outfit each week. Incredible boobs! We also discuss: - Her solo album, Hot, with its single: Tell me, feels so good and Lullaby. It featured production from Darkchild, Sisqo, Jimmy Jam & Lewis and, surprisingly, Max Beesley. (She dated Max Beesley also) - Break up and Divorce from Jimmy Gulzar. Post baby, pre break up anthem "Tell me". There was also the first hints of domestic violence within her relationship - Getting dropped by Virgin records - Autobiography - Mel B acting career. BBC drama, Burn it, featuring Lisa Faulkner. Plus appearing in movie, The Seatfiller, with Kelly Rowland from Destinys Child. Plus performing as Mim Marquez in Rent - Setting up own lable, to create the Sheryl Crowe esque "LA State of Mind" second album - Getting pregnant with Eddie Murphy baby. Giving birth after paternity battle with Eddie Murphy. Also during this time she meets future husband Stephen Belafonte.
