At No. 30 overall, the Buffalo Bills selected Kentucky cornerback Max Hairston. His services are most certainly required. This is a defense in need of a corner capable of sticking with receivers step for step in the playoffs. Nobody ran faster than Hairston at the NFL Combine, and scouts describe him as mentally tough — “a cocky little guy” who's “electric as far as change of direction, movement, speed.” The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder had 89 tackles, six interceptions, three pick-sixes and 10 passes defensed in 20 games the last two seasons. He's got limitations physically. The Bills needed to step outside of their comfort zone with this pick and we'll explore more in full later. Here's a quick chat on Substack Live with WGRZ's Jon Scott into the wee hours at One Bills Drive. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was at DC's Reagan National Airport when a commercial jet crashed into a Blackhawk helicopter. He spoke with Channel 2 about the scene at the airport as the crash happened.
What a game last night. Suppose those Washington Commanders tried to tell us, eh? Joe Whitt compared this team to the 2010 Packers and now that statement is looking prophetic. Dan Quinn's club lit it up at Ford Field. Now, we inch closer to the main event: the Baltimore Ravens at the Buffalo Bills. We've all been dissecting this matchup to the point of becoming hoarse — but for good reason. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are must-see TV. Legacies are on the line across the board. On Saturday night, we recorded a live show at Fattey Beer in Orchard Park, NY.A huge THANK YOU to everybody who hung out with us. So good to meet you all. Here's the replay with my guest Jon Scott of WGRZ here in Buffalo. Video and Audio are available above. You can also listen everywhere you pod, including Apple, Spotify and YouTube. Dan Campbell seeks a very specific brand of football player. The Buffalo Bills have spent the last 1 1/2 years trying to evolve into a team capable of winning in sub-zero wind chill. Of course, Derrick Henry is as close as we'll get to the badass running backs of bygone eras. These four matchups are full of players and schemes our fathers and grandfathers would appreciate. Here on the podcast, I bring on Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated to break down everything. The headliner is obvious, and Go Long will be on-hand to cover Ravens at Bills. But there's plenty to discuss with all the games… as well as Christmas Toy Aftermath Analysis. You can catch the audio and video of our converstion here, as well as on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. Thanks, everyone.ICYMI, here's our Friday Feature this week on Ty Johnson and the power of manifestation.Live here in WNY? It's another edition of the "Live from Imperial" series today on Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV sports director Jon Scott to talk about big career changes, some Buffalo Bills and much more in a conversation recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. After spending a decade at Spectrum News, Jon is now the sports director at WGRZ channel 2. He discusses his time at Spectrum and how the job helped him grow both professionally and personally before getting into how the opportunity at Channel 2 came about the process he went through in landing the job. Of course they spend some time talking Bills just a few weeks out from training camp and how Greg Rousseau has become without question one of the five most important players to the team's success this year in addition to tempered expectations on the old guy (Von Miller) and the young guy (Keon Coleman) and players Jon's most looking forward to following during camp. That plus talk about Jon's sports teammates at WGRZ Lindsey and Johnathan, wings, relationships in the media balancing competition and much more. Make sure to follow Jon on Twitter @JonScottTV and of course check out the great work he's doing at WGRZ. Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV sports anchor and reporter Lindsey Moppert to discuss her life and career to this point with a heavy focus on getting to know Lindsey and how she feels about working and living in Buffalo. Moppert is just approaching her mid-20's but is already beginning to carve out a nice sports broadcasting career for herself. Lindsey talks about growing up near Philly and always loving sports, with cheerleading becoming a big part of her life before she even turned five and would ultimately take her to becoming a captain on the college cheerleading team at Temple. She also talks about how the opportunity came about to join WRGZ-TV and move to Buffalo just a handful of months upon graduating college---a rarity for a young adult essentially fresh out of college to get a job in a market the size of Buffalo. Also discussed is the positive impact now former WGRZ sports director Adam Benignin had on her as well as the newest sports director there, Jon Scott. That plus the process of gaining confidence in front of the camera, views on social media, the "Fun Fact Finale" and a ton more with one of Buffalo's rising media stars. Make sure to follow Lindsey on Twitter at @LindseyMoppTV and check out the great work she's doing at WGRZ-TV. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatMoranTweets. Bull even told us a quick tale of the time he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds! Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Donnie Raiser, owner and operator of WNY's Tread City Discount Tire, the title sponsor of Morning Bull joined us to talk about his annual involvment in the Buffalo Variety Club Telethon. This years is taking place this weekend on WBBZ and WGRZ! He told us how they are changing things up for COVID protocol and even had some fun with us to help promote it! We were visited by a good friend of ours, in studio even tho he shouldnt be in there, Punman! He gave us some thoughts on a TrendZone topic about self-cleaning underwear. Obviously it got pretty “dirty” so to speak, but we got thru it and had plenty of laughs! Dr. Marc Fineberg is an Orthopedic Surgeon at UBMD Sports Medicine and recently consulted with Rob after his motorcycle accident and his conjoining surgeries on his shoulder. He gave us a buzz in the middle of the show to give us his expert opinion from afar on Tiger Woods accident and subsequent injuries he is dealing with and having surgery on. Rob busted out his axe today! His acoustic guitar was handy, and off of an interview we did on an exhibit of guitar history at the BMS, we wanted to test our trivial knowledge on the instrument. Therefore, we played 'Name That Tune'...sort of. The songs he played were tough to discypher but see what you can do! ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! You can watch TV programming in 3 different manners: antenna, cable, and through an internet connection. OTT is watching TV through your internet connection via a connected TV, tablet, mobile device, or computer. So how can you take advantage of OTT in your marketing strategy? Paula Osika from WGRZ in Buffalo explains the most effective ways to target your audience through OTT.
Friday before the Super Bowl was loaded up here on Morning Bull with plenty of celebrity guests, fun Super Bowl and SB commercial sound and much much more to prepare you for Sunday evening! This included former Sabres great Danny Gare, John Brenkus of Sport Science and our usual visit with Vic Carucci! We even had a fun prop bet between us that we laid out for the weekend between Bull and Tom Brady's number one fan Producer Bobby. We also had a chance to discuss the existence of another Tom Brady right here in Buffalo! Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Vic Carucci joined us for his final appearance of the 2020 season with Morning Bull. He told us about some of the cool stories behind his book writing and got into the Super Bowl and his thoughts on it as well! He was great all year and hope to have him back next year! John Brenkus of Sport Science dropped by via phone to get into his BIG GAME PROMOTION to help you win money, for free! He gave us some in depth info on it and also shared his high praises for Josh Allen and the Bills! Former Buffalo Bills QB and current Browns OC Alex Van Pelt joined Morning Bull to catch up with us after quite some time and let us know how hes been doing in his newest role! We also discussed some of his favorite memories of Buffalo and obviously, his take on the Super Bowl this Sunday. Joining us was Steven Ash to talk about a local, annual fundraiser for the Ken-Ton area which includes a really cool sleepout overnight tonight to benefit the local homeless! Tom Sizemore, actor and crazy soul joined the program early on to discuss his latest movie and some of his career works he is most well known for. We also took a great turn to talk about the Buffalo Bills, which he is a huge fan of! You will be blown away by the Buffalo sports knowledge he drops. Our great buddy Pat Hammer, the chief meteorologist at WGRZ channel 2 gave us a ring to tell us about the big snow storm and potential blizzard heading our way Friday afternoon into the weekend. The great and wonderful, Buffalo Sabres Hall of Famer Danny Gare gave us a ring from all the way down in Tampa Bay—the site of Super Bowl 55! He talked to us about his thoughts on the game and the fact that he is going to it courtesy of Kim and Terry Pegula! We also asked him his take on the Sabres COVID situation and their next few games being postponned. ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Thursdays Morning Bull was the last day all four of us would be together on the show together before the end of 2020 and obviously, the beginning of 2021! Therefore, we had our 'white elephant gift exchange' amongst ourselves to celebrate the holiday coming up. It was the first significant snow of the season today and we talked plenty about it sparsed throughout the program. We also talked with HOFer Jim Kelly as we do every week, Michael Wooten of WGRZ joined on some more serious news and our buddy Paul Santora talked about a new project he's working on called 'Revive WNY Restaurants'! Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! Jim Kelly joins the show to talk football and Bills with us every week on Thursdays and today was no exception! He stopped in after dusting the snow off of his car at his cabin, where a friend of his had to remind him during that, to call in to his show! We talked with him about the Bills schedule remaining, as well as Josh Allen and his progress, including breaking one of Jims records the other day. A 'white elephant' gift exchanged is, very simply, a present exchange that involves every person picking a 'dumb, crappy' gift from their homes and then blindly picking, revealing and switching them between eachother. It was a lot of fun and all four of the players werent exactly THRILLED about our presents we ended with...oh well! Merry Christmas! With COVID being a major issue with everything this year, office holiday parties are pretty much off limits for in person gatherings. Therefore, we wanted to ask you and discuss what we're all doing in place of office parties for Christmas. The response was great and we ended up realizing its probably best we arent able to 'let loose' this year! Lance Leipold is the HC of UB Bulls football program and he is also a great friend of the show and an overall great guy. Very funny. He joined us to talk about him receiving the MAC Coach of the Year award as well as to give words of encouragement as his team prepares for their bowl game this weekend! Finally, joining us from WGRZ was reporter Michael Wooten to discuss a very disturbing story with some graphic details we wanted to find out if they were true and to what extent is there validity to the story. ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Its already the first Thursday in November and we had a lot of fun stuff to roll out as we close out the final two months of 2020. Jim Kelly joined us for his weekly Thursday show to talk Bills; another WGRZ icon gave us a ring as well; and some interesting topics like crazy names people have that we've heard & a throwback to one of our local classics the 'Roll up The Rim' contest from Tim Hortons. Robs Did You Know took place, as did the TrendZone featuring some great sound from around the world! A very nice and successful young model and actress Paris Berelc, who recently starred in the Adam Sandler Halloween flick 'Hubie Halloween' on Netflix, was on the show bright and early to talk about the film. We also talked to her about her modeling career and asked her for some advice for Robs daughter in the industry. Off of our interview with Paris and the question Rob had about the origin of her name, we wanted to know and hear some of the funniest or most inconvenient or unfortunate name/name-combos we and YOU have ever heard. Some of these were celebrity names like Dick Trickle, Art Garfunkel; while others are more local like Robs friends with daughters named Jenna/Talia and submissions from you like 'Jen Italia'! Some of the names we came up with or heard were so hard to believe because they were so outrageous, yet it is a must hear and are very glad for your engagement! Our weekly visit with Bills HOFer Jim Kelly commenced as it does every Thursday and he had a lot to weigh in on including the recent Bills win over the Pats. He also helped us prep for this Sundays big matchup here in Orchard Park for the Bills versus the 6-1 Seahawks. We talked a little bit about the injuries and how he thinks the Bills are looking; and he even had some fun with a few questions we had about his playing days AND his name. From WGRZ Channel 2 General Assignment, Political and Consumer reporter Dave McKinley called the show for the first time and we had an absolute blast asking him questions about himself and his career. He does a great job as a journalist grilling people all over the place to bring people the news. He told us some really funny stories about what his house looks like, why he wears turtle necks and his voice. ONLY AVAILABLE on the Morning Bull Podcast! Hobgoblins seem to be small, hairy little men who, like their close relatives the broonies, are often found within human dwellings, doing odd jobs around the house while the family is asleep. Such chores are typically small tasks like dusting and ironing. Often, the only compensation necessary in return for these is food. While broonies are more peaceful creatures, hobgoblins are more fond of practical jokes. They also seem to be able to shapeshift, as seen in one of Puck's monologues in A Midsummer Night's Dream. One of the most talked-about aspects of the historic Fort Niagara site is the story of the hobgoblin. Fort Niagara is a fortification originally built to protect the interests of New France in North America. It is located near Youngstown, New York, on the eastern bank of the Niagara River at its mouth, on Lake Ontario. Wikipedia Opened: 1726 Area: 250 acres According to Mason Winfield (historian of local folklore), per WGRZ, the hobgoblin is more a prankster than something that's a threat. A young piper named John Carroll in 1804 was punished for drunkenness by being thrown in the black hole, which is a pit of solitary confinement. Dug into the floor of one of the buildings. Carroll claims he was visited by a hobgoblin (or demon) that night and said that he was instructed to write a song or a hymn. You can listen to a piece of it here. Then, a soldier was on duty in 1812 before he supposedly saw a being in the graveyard. He saw it come into view during a lightning strike. He fired his rifle at it and ran off, knocking himself out cold by going into a barricade. But since both incidents involved both men being intoxicated...but did they actually see the hobgoblin? According to the Old Fort Niagara website, they too make mention of the folklore of the hobgoblin, including the "wall of fog." Whether or not you believe in the hobgoblin, it certainly makes for an interesting story, especially since it involves such a historic site as Old Fort Niagara. Born in Wichita, Kan. in 1928, June Esther Bacon-Bercey gravitated toward science, and at a young age, her teachers encouraged her to pursue STEM studies. She would eventually become the first African American woman to receive a bachelor's degree in meteorology from UCLA. Bacon-Bercey would study meteorological impacts of atomic testing sites, and in 1971, she was hired by NBC affiliate WGRZ. Although she was hesitant about becoming an on-air personality for fear of diminishing the seriousness of her work, she broke the glass ceiling for women and people of color, and would eventually go on to work for the National Weather Service. She continued a lifetime of service and giving back, and worked diligently to encourage more women to pursue STEAM professions.

You know, as a meteorologist, did you know you can be right half the time but still have a job. The amount of times we all hear that, am I right? There's no doubt public perception of weather and weather forecasting isn't always great. And with many meteorologists and forecasters in the spotlight, the hate messages can be downright hurtful, and that can take a terrible mental toll on those who work so hard to predict the weather. But, many on-air personalities have had enough, and they're fighting back. That was meteorologist James Spann at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Alabama. He reads mean tweets sent in by listeners. And in this case, his viewers are complaining about his winter weather forecast earlier this year. He's not the only one. Meteorologist Heather Waldman from WGRZ in Buffalo, New York is also defending forecasting, using a more educational approach. More and more meteorology professionals are taking to social media and the airwaves to fight back against haters and trollers. And we examine that on this week's episode of WeatherHype. Challenging. Adrenaline-pumping. Riveting. Exhausting. These words barely begin to describe working at a local TV station during a story so large it compels round-the-clock coverage. We experienced it in Atlanta last winter during "Snowmageddon", where a few inches of snow-turned-ice led to massive back-ups on the highways and left people stuck in their cars for hours. Local TV journalists in Buffalo went through it last month, when the region was pelted with a different kind of snowstorm. A seven-foot kind of snowstorm. The historic snowfall -- even by Buffalo standards -- created massive issues across the region, and its NBC affiliate, WGRZ-TV, replaced its regular programming with non-stop news coverage. Anchors, reporters, producers, photographers, and staffers across the board worked extra-long shifts -- outdoors, too, for the crews in the field. Situations like these often stretch a newsroom to its thinnest. In this case, half of the WGRZ newsroom was not there. So says longtime reporter Claudine Ewing: "Anybody who lived in the Southtowns could not get in; they just could not get out of their homes.
