Things start with a review of films worth checking out that first arrived in 2024, then they look forward to the future to let you guys know what's worth circling on your calendars, release date-wise. Apologies in advance, of course, if any film releases change their dates at the last minute (we're looking at you, Mickey 17).

Jay and Dre are joined by Dave the Movie Expert to preview the 96th Academy Awards. In this year's diverse field for Best Picture, the biggest surprise is usually which crappy Netflix film somehow got nominated. But the pinkest product placement movie evah gets in, which was a stunner to some. Does Barbie have a real chance at the Oscar? Theme music credit: "Quentin" by Strong Suit (CC BY-SA 4.0)

For the 95th Academy Awards, the clear favorite for Best Picture is the fantasy film Everything Everywhere All At Once. Should it run away, or should another picture be given consideration? Dre and Jay ask the man who has (usually) seen all the nominees and can judge for himself, Dave the Movie Expert, who has his picks for all the major categories! July 2, 2021 ~ The Movie Expert talks to Paul and Rich about movies to watch over the long holiday weekend.
Jay and Dre are happy to welcome back Dave the Movie Expert to examine 2020's eccentric list of movies nominated for the Academy Award. In the wake of last year's nationwide police evildoing, 1960s Chi-Town unrest is fertile ground for two different films. Will one of them claim the Oscar? Will Chadwick Boseman be posthumously honored with a Best Actor statue? And how the heck did the two standout performances in Judas and the Black Messiah both garner Supporting Actor nominations? Supporting who, each other?? Aftershow: Dre finally reviews WrestleRainia Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier CC BY-ND 4.0

Is this the first time a woman had been on this show? Grey is this true? What's going on here... Anyway, Ellen Adair! You know her, you love her, she's on all your favorite shows (Homeland, Billions, and The Sinner), and she's as big a baseball fan as you'll meet. We talk movies, her work, and her new and very fun Podcast "Take Me In To The Ballgame". Where Ellen and her husband discuss the best baseball movies of all-time. Now, you know what this means. We talked Rocky movies for 20 minutes. Why does this have to do with baseball... nothing. But it's Grey, he never stays on topic. It's his superpower. Check it out, it's the latest non-baseball related baseball podcast from your favorite idiots.
My buddy Matt Bergman and I discuss trying to stay mentally and physically well during quarantine, the future of comedy, his master knowledge of early 90's movies, and the time I had to let Robert Redford have his way with me to save my house. Enjoy!
Julia Ricci is senior programmer of The Heartland International Film Festival, processing more than 4,000 submissions each year, with the help of over 100 volunteer screeners. On the latest AFS Viewfinders podcast we are joined by Amanda Reyes, who has certainly staked out a place as one of the preeminent expert on that much-maligned hybrid entertainment form, the Made-For-TV movie. Amanda runs the podcast and site Made For TV Mayhem and has done a large number of disc commentaries, most recently for the excellent TV Movie PRAY FOR THE WILDCATS. She has also lectured all around the world on the subject of TV movies. Her book "Are You In The House Alone: A TV Movie Compendium 1964-1999" is both an essential resource for fans of the form and a very entertaining read. Here, we talk about the origins of the TV Movie, the creative forces behind the best ones, and why they were an important outlet for some very talented women. We also take a moment to discuss the episodic television show CHARLIE'S ANGELS, since our History Of Television screening on that subject was so rudely canceled in light of the current crisis. Finally, Amanda offers some recommendations of Made For TV movies available on Amazon Prime for streaming. Here are Amanda's recommendations for streaming TV Movies, though you will find many more films for your watchlist mentioned in the discussion, so take notes as you listen.BORN INNOCENT (1974, D. After years of firing up the Oscars toward the end of February or early March, this year the 92nd Academy Awards takes place a week after the Super Bowl. Jay and Dre have even less time to catch up on the nominees, so they will rely even more than normal on the world's biggest big screen fan, Dave the Movie Expert. The Best Picture race seems a little more wide open than normal, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see 1917, Joker, or Parasite stand victorious. The acting and directing categories may not be complete slam dunks, either. Was this a year high in quality and variety, or a year in which nothing was all that great? All the guys will weigh in, but as always, only Dave has actually seen the films! Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier CC BY-ND 4.0

The 91st Academy Awards will be distributed on Sunday, so once again it's time for Jay and Dre to go over the nominees with Dave the Movie Expert, who earned that name because he's actually watched the movies being nominated. Dre watched one of them, Black Panther, and everyone had a chance to watch another one, Roma, because it's on Netflix. It's also the prohibitive favorite. Will one of the other films from a very diverse field sneak in for the Oscar? Will there be any acting upsets among all those top picks? And every year from now on, we must wonder: Will the right winning envelope be read the first time? Theme music credit: "Anthemic" by Djmarbll CC BY-SA 3.0

The 90th Academy Awards will be handed out Sunday, and maybe this time they'll give the right trophy to the actual winners on the first try! Dre chats with Dave the Movie Expert about this year's ceremonies. In an upset, for the second year in a row Dre saw a movie nominated for Best Picture, and he saw it first run in the theater. In another upset, Mary J. Blige somehow got nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Listen to hear if the guys foresee any other upsets. Theme music credit: "Anthemic" by Djmarbll CC BY-SA 3.0
The 89th Academy Awards are Sunday, and your favorite Oscars preview podcast will drop a couple of nights before. Dave the Movie Expert joins Jay and Dre to ponder whether a goofy musical can outlast some excruciating stories for Best Picture, if there has ever been a more stone cold lock than Viola Davis winning Best Supporting Actress, and did Dre actually watch the Best Actress performance and accidentally bring some credibility to the hosts?? Theme music credit: "Breaking Bad" by Jahzzar CC BY-SA 3.0
On the eve of the 2016 Academy Awards, Jay and Dre are again joined by Dave the Movie Expert as they chat and make their Oscar picks. Is Leo DiCaprio really going to get an Academy Award for getting mauled by a bear? Is Sly Stallone going to get one for playing Grandpa Rocky? Will Eddie Redmayne go back-to-back? And is a Mad Max movie good enough against all odds to win Best Picture? See if you can outguess Dave in the major categories! In the aftershow, Dre pays tribute to his radio mentor. This week, Dennis welcomes film critic Alonso Duralde to the booth o' truth to discuss Alonso's oh-so-timely book "Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas," a book all about Christmas movies; some great, some awful, classics and some you've probably never heard of. Alonso talks about reviewing movies for The Wrap and What the Flick?, what it's like to co-host a movie review podcast with your husband (check out Alonso and Dave White's "Linoleum Knife" podcast), teaches college students about film and the moment at Sundance he almost said "Screw movies" and explored another line of work. Also on the agenda: when, how and why Alonso fell in love with movies, the classic he doesn't care for, the movie he wishes he could add to his 2005 book "101 Must-See Movies for Gay Men" and how "Defending Your Life" and "Groundhog Day" totally changed his life.
