What would you do for $1 million dollars? Would you let Robert Redford sleep with your wife? Regardless of your answer, mix yourself a Million Dollar cocktail, throw on your sexiest black dress, spread all your cash over your bedsheets, and listen to Gina and Sonia's breakdown of Indecent Proposal. In this episode, Gina and Sonia talk about moral compasses, rubber gloves, and Diana's (Demi Moore's) "purse/backpack/saddlebag" (what is it????).
Send us a textThis week on Fabulous Film and Friends we're going to pay tribute to the late, great Robert Reford and analyze just why this Hollywood icon belonged on the top of Mt. Olympus long before vanity, sanctimony and crass commercialism ruined his artistry. In other words, before he tarnished his legacy with offensive tripe like The Legend of Bagger Vance, the execrable Indecent Proposal and most especially by appearing as a generic schmoe bad guy #5 in Marvel movies, he was literally the undisputed KING of the Hollywood Hill starting with 1969's Downhill Racer directed by Michael Ritchie co-starring Gene Hackman, Camilla Sparv, Kenneth Kirk, Jim McMullan, Walter Stroud and Dabney Coleman in his ever so brief dreamboat era. Then Redford was his solid oakiest in 1972's Jeremiah Johnson directed by Sydney Pollack and co-starring Will Gear, Delle Bolton, Josh Albee, Paul Benedict, Jack Covin and Stefan Gierasch. And he showed us all how paranoid thrillers were done with 1975's 3 Days of the Condor directed once again by Sydney Pollack and co-starring Faye Dunaway, Max Von Sydow, John Houseman and Cliff RobertsonI'm your host Gino Caputi leading my dream team of scoffers and detractors, lil sis Roseanne Caputi and photobug/actor/gadfly Alex Robertson. Before we hit the trails on career highlights, the synopses:Downhill RacerAn arrogant young skier, David Chappellet, rockets to the top of the U.S. ski team, heedlessly chasing medals, without regard for his teammates or his Coach who tries without success rein him in. ⸻Jeremiah JohnsonA war-weary loner heads into the Rockies to live off the land and find peace, but the wilderness has other notion, transforming Jeremiah Johnson from naive pilgrim to Legendary Crow Killer, forged by experience and hardship. ⸻3 Days of the CondorMild-mannered CIA researcher Joe Turner, aka Condor, goes out for lunch and comes back to find everyone he works with dead. Suddenly Condor finds himself hunted, running from his own agency and clinging to the one woman who might trust him. Can he unravel the truth — before the deep state eats him alive? Why was Robert Redford the Hollywood GOAT? Find out!Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/zy0CtssU0-0
The Munsons are joined by guest Munson, Cori Wallace, to dive into the wonderfully eclectic and quietly impressive career of Oliver Platt. We kick things off by unpacking his incredibly well-connected family—ambassadors, founders of elite boarding schools, and his time at Choate Hall—which naturally becomes an ongoing insult throughout the podcast. From there, we explore how Platt's childhood spent traveling the world with his diplomat father, along with a Morgan Freeman monologue, helped him fall in love with acting and build community wherever he landed. We marvel at the glorious mane he debuted in Working Girl (a look that followed him for decades) and Case takes a victory lap celebrating the man's iconic accessories—suspenders, bow ties, wraparound glasses, you name it. The Munsons revisit some of his most memorable films: our disbelief that Indecent Proposal hasn't been remade, James' shock at the wild way Simon Birch dispatches Joe's mom, and Aubrey/Kyle's ongoing disappointment in Lake Placid even 20 years later. Cori brings in her expertise from the TikTok world, and we all admire Platt's late-career television renaissance with Chicago Med/PD and The Bear. By the end, we can't help but wonder: did his off-the-grid lifestyle and steady working-actor mentality keep him from becoming a truly great actor—or is that exactly what makes him beloved? How does he rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.

Episode 433 of Friends Talking Nerdy brings a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Robert Redford. Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive deep into the cinematic legacy of the late actor, director, and icon, exploring how his work shaped both Hollywood storytelling and 20th-century American culture. From the buddy brilliance of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting to the political intrigue of All the President's Men and The Candidate, the duo traces Redford's uncanny ability to capture the restless spirit of his time. They also tackle his turns in Jeremiah Johnson, Three Days of the Condor, The Natural, Out of Africa, Indecent Proposal, and even his surprising Marvel role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Equal parts nostalgia and cultural dissection, this episode reminds us why Robert Redford wasn't just a movie star—he was an American art form in motion. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. This psychological horror thriller from director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, Flashdance, Unfaithful) takes us through the horrific journey of Vietnam vet Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) who is now working as a postman in New York City and starts seeing various horrific visions wherever he goes....could they be demons? He doesn't know but they start getting worse and worse, even blending into his everyday life....could they be premonitions resulting from his PTSD? Neither he knows nor his girlfriend (Elizabeth Pena) and the only person who can apparently provide him with some comfort is his personal chiropractor played by Oscar-nominee Danny Aiello. Eventually Jacob does get more answers as to where these visions might be coming from but those only result in more questions.....this mind-bending tale garnered a following throughout the '90's as a result of some genuinely disturbing imagery featured throughout. It also features a pretty stacked cast including Matt Craven, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Jason Alexander, Eriq LaSalle, Ving Rhames, and Macauley Culkin.WARNING: GRAPHIC VIOLENCE PORTRAYED VIA MOVIE CLIPSHost: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSee below for a link to an extended deleted scene discussed in this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hkLhMuzk3E&t=415sSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Click here to try it out!We don't usually double up on an actor, but when Robert Redford died at 89, it felt only right to go again. A true Hollywood legend — Butch Cassidy, The Sting, All the President's Men — Redford left us not just with an iconic filmography but also Sundance, a festival that gave countless indie movies a life. This week, we pay tribute by reviewing Indecent Proposal (1993).It's the one where a young, loved-up couple (Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore) are offered a cool million dollars by Redford's billionaire for one night with the wife. A sleazy premise? Absolutely. But it was a 90s cultural flashpoint that had everyone asking: what would you do?What we coverRedford as a twinkly-eyed predator — suave, charming, but pure sociopath energy.Woody Harrelson's “character growth” (spoiler: remembering to take his muddy shoes off the table).Demi Moore stuck as the literal bargaining chip between two men.Erotic sax solos, visible erections, and more money-on-the-bed shots than you can shake a hippo at.Why this could've been a sharp morality tale, but instead feels like a glossy objectification exercise. The cultural lens shift: what audiences excused in 1993 versus what plays as flat-out toxic today. As always, expect detours into visible erections, Michael Bay's slow-mo dice shots, hippos at auctions, Oliver Platt being a slimy lawyer, and whether we'd personally take the money (spoiler: the negotiations got weird).“Hard recommend? Hard pass? Or just Woody being… hard?”We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. You’re probably familiar with “Indecent Proposal,” taking a million dollars to let Robert Redford sleep with your spouse. The movie offered questions of morality, ethics, relationships and insecurity. In the other stories you need to know, researchers found the movie was probably a bit too kind.

During a peak era for Hollywood produced conspiracy thrillers, this was one of the most popular and for good reasons. It was directed by the late, great Oscar-winner Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa, Tootsie, The Firm) and starred two of the most beautiful and enduring stars of this era. Robert Redford (The Sting, Indecent Proposal) stars as Turner who is an mild-mannered analyst for the CIA who suddenly finds every one in his New York City research office brutally murdered while he went out of lunch....and now he's on the run to get answers, also before some one murders him. Along the way, he encounters Kathy played by Oscar-winner Faye Dunaway (Network, Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown), an unusually observant painter whom he decides to kidnap while seeking shelter at her apartment....and of course they develop a romance....sort of. And hot on his heels is the wily assassin Joubert played by the late, great Max Von Sydow (The Seventh Seal, Flash Gordon, Pelle the Conqueror). What results is a tense cat-and-mouse thriller which was somewhat ahead of its time and is now about to turn Fifty! Beave and Len discuss the career and films of Robert Redford, from his debut in "Barefoot In The Park" to his recent appearances in Marvel movies. We also talk the legacy of the Sundance Film Festival, as well as his directorial accomplishments. Was he actually a good actor, or just a pretty face? What are his best films, both as an actor and director? Tune in for cinema discussion!
Len and Beave go through the career and films of Demi Moore, who shockingly lost Best Actress earlier this year for her performance in "The Substance". What were her best performances? Is she in fact a good actress? What is the key to her appeal? What movies are among her best? Has anyone seen "Wisdom", "Forsaken", or "Wild Oats"? Is "Striptease" a good movie? (Beave will defend that one to the death) And of course, has St. Elmo's Fire aged for the better or worse since its premiere 40 years ago? Tune in!
