Today's case is about the unsolved murder of Mexican Musician Chalino Sanchez who was handed his own death note, live on stage. Later that night, Chalino was kidnapped by alleged Police and by the morning, he'd be found dead. Chalino Sanchez was crowned the King of Corridos and is the idol of many musicians today, including Peso Pluma, who in 2023 went viral after receiving his own death note.  The message warned Peso Pluma that if he performed his upcoming concert in Tijuana, it would be his last. It had been sent by a Cartel over his song ‘El Gavilán', that he'd made with Luis R Conriquez and Tony Aguirre. The lyrics complimented El Chapo, which enraged the cartel. But after Peso Pluma received a death note over a bad lyric, theories behind Chalino's unsolved murder were re-ignited across the internet.  Corrido music is about love, hardship and crime. Narcocorrido is specifically about the life of narcos. Chalino Sanchez lived a crazy life full of revenge, drug trafficking, coyotes, and music. So, this is a messed up story, but its fascinating. Saul and I prolly dont do it justice. I just recently found out about this dude and his story and it captivated me. El corrido es un género musical en México que narra la historia verdadera de un personaje real y/o mítico. Estas composiciones épicas narran momentos importantes para rendir homenaje y demostrar respeto a una persona o un pueblo. El corrido nació a principios del siglo XIX durante la época de la independencia y ganó mucha popularidad durante la Revolución Mexicana (1910-1920) porque se relataban las aventuras de los revolucionarios y sus líderes. Los corridos son populares hoy en día también. Siguen narrando las historias más sentimentales de los habitantes de las comunidades y sus problemas más cercanos como la inmigración. En vez de cantar sobre los líderes revolucionarios, hoy se cuentan las historias de los héroes anónimos que mueren intentando cruzar la frontera hacia los Estados Unidos. Otro tema popular del corrido actual es el narcotráfico: estos corridos se llaman “narcocorridos.” Los narcocorridos tienen mucha influencia de la música norteña, la cual incorpora el ritmo del acordeón y es inspirada por valses y polkas. Tradicionalmente era una música de las zonas rurales pero recientemente los corridos se hicieron populares en las ciudades mexicanas y también estadounidenses. Según Elijah Wald, autor del libro Narcocorrido, en los años 90, más de dos tercios de los discos de música latina que se vendían en Estados Unidos eran de narcocorridistas mexicanos, es decir artistas que cantan narcocorridos. En los EE.UU., Los Ángeles se convirtió en el epicentro del género.
