Consciousness is one of the strangest parts of our universe. It's a mind-bogglingly complicated and difficult topic to discuss seriously and almost impossible to measure, let alone define. Where on earth does consciousness come from? However, luckily for us Mark Solms amazing new book, The Hidden Spring: A Journey To The Source Of Consciousness, addresses many of these questions. In this fascinating chat, I asked Mark about how old consciousness is, what part of the brain is creating consciousness, how we are different from animals if at all, and whether we can create consciousness in machines.  Dr Mark Solms is a South African psychoanalyst and neuropsychologist, who is known for his discovery of the brain mechanisms of dreaming and his use of psychoanalytic methods in contemporary neuroscience. He holds the Chair of Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital (Departments of Psychology and Neurology) and is the President of the South African Psychoanalytical Association. Melissa Ciummei first came across my radar after I saw her speak at an anti-vaccine passport protest in Belfast. Once I delved further into her work, I saw that Melissa was discussing ideas of good and evil, financial reset, and above all, she was warning about the dangers of digital ID and a centralised system of control from the government based around smart cities and the promise of integration. Does power corrupt? Or do those prone to corruption end up in power? It's an age-old question answered by Dr Brian Klaas in his brand new book "Corruptible: Who Gets Power And How It Changes Us". I was lucky enough to get a copy and read the book over Christmas. In the middle of a world in which I have witnessed politicians do horrendous damage as they try to help, I have often wondered whether it is corruption, malice, or incompetence that leads them to make decisions that can negatively impact the lives of thousands or even millions of people. After reading this book I've changed my beliefs somewhat - I am more sympathetic for the position that our leaders are in, though that may not excuse their actions.  Dr. Klaas is an expert on democracy, authoritarianism, US foreign policy, American politics more generally, political violence, and elections. I've been having a lot of conversations with people about Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies and blockchain technology and about how they are going to change the world of finance. BRUCE OLAV SOLHEIM, PH.D. Bruce Olav Solheim was born in Seattle, Washington, to Norwegian immigrant parents. Bruce was the first per­son in his family to go to college. He served for six years in the US Army as a jail guard and later as a warrant officer helicopter pilot and is a disabled veteran. He also worked as a defense contractor with Boeing for five years. Bruce earned his Ph.D. in history from Bowling Green State University in 1993. Bruce is a distinguished professor of history at Citrus College in Glendora, California. He was a Fulbright Professor and Scholar in 2003 at the University of Tromsø in northern Norway. Bruce has published twelve books and has written ten plays, six of which have been produced. The Bronze Star won two awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The Epiphany was commissioned by the Kingdom of Norway and funded for a full production run with the original American cast. Bruce is a co-founder of Lockdown Theatre which has produced four streamplays (online, live, with remote actors) during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has lived a paranormal life since age four having experienced angels, demons, ghosts, cryptids, telepathy, psychokinesis, mediumship, and alien contact. Bruce has published a trilogy of paranormal books about his personal paranormal experiences: Timeless, Timeless Deja Vu, and Timeless Trinity, and most recently published a book about his contact with an ancient alien mystic—Anzar the Progenitor. Bruce has also published two comic books featuring an alien hybrid character named Snarc.
