My good friend and role model, Dr. Marvin Smith, joins me to discuss his experiences in being a Black man in America and in the Bahamas. As always, Dr. Smith provides some great insight and shares some of his stories in dealing with racism and even a case of police brutality. I hope all of the listeners can appreciate the Dr. Smith's views and can you this podcast, and the last one with Dr. Richard Waithe, to start opening up the dialogue and discussion about race. We can't fix these issues, no matter what race you are, if we aren't discussing this sensitive topic. As pharmacists, please use this time to listen to your patients needs a little closer and expand our thoughts to what a day is like in their shoes. I guarantee this can help us better take care of them as healthcare providers.
Dr. Richard Waithe (host of RxRadio Podcast and President of VUCA Health) sat down with me to discuss what it is like to grow up black in America. Dr. Waithe shared a lot of his experiences, what it was like to go through pharmacy school and more being black and share some stories and things that impacted him growing up. I know conversations like this aren't easy but I think it's important to have discussions like this. As a pharmacist, I consider this part of our duty to be able to understand and counsel our patients on their everyday lives and understanding what minorities, in this case black Americans, go through is key. I loved having this discussion with Dr. Waithe. I appreciate his openness and willingness to have this conversation with me, a white man, and help open other peoples eyes to the issues around race
Richard Waithe, PharmD, is the president of VUCA Health. VUCA Health has created the largest and most robust medication video library in the world to address low health literacy.
In this episode, I got to sit down with Dr. Richard Waithe before he gave a talk on technology in Pharmacy, and personally branding to students of the Student Pharmacist Policy and Advocacy Association at VCU SOP. Before the talk we discussed how he is helping Pharmacy Schools adapt to Covid-19 by offering Virtual APPE's and he answered a few questions near the end that I think will benefit anyone trying to use social media to build a personal brand. The Ad in the beginning is about an initiative started by the National Community Pharmacists Association that is aimed at giving patients and other healthcare professionals a united way to advocate and support legislation for increased PBM oversight. I speak a lot about the importance of advocating for your profession in this mini-series and I can't think of a better way to do that, or a better time than now. Dr. Richard Waithe is back on Monumental! Check out episode #4 if you want to learn more about Richie. This time we delve deeper into his #10to2 and how to find time for your passion and working towards your financial freedom. #10to2 is becoming a movement! I will let Richie explain in the episode, but in summary it's about setting aside time every day for your passion. Plain and simple. Richie's time is 10pm to 2am every day. Hence the #10to2. After we first posted episode #4 I got some amazing feedback from listeners who heard the episode and heard Richie discussing his #10to2 and ended up starting a company they always wanted to start, or starting a blog they always thought about but never acted on! That really blew me away and that's when I knew we had to have Richie back on Monumental. And since Richie and I last talked, Richie has changed positions and published his first book! So much has changed in his life in just the last 6 months. Amazing.
