The executive order states “individuals employed by organizations whose activities have a substantial illegal purpose shall not be eligible for public service loan forgiveness.” PSLF is a student loan program that lets those in government positions such as police or teachers, along with those working with nonprofits, to receive debt forgiveness after making 10 years of consecutive payments. Every time markets teeter, the Fed responds with rate cuts, quantitative easing, and emergency liquidity measures. Trump is counting on this. A recession gives him the perfect excuse to pressure the Fed into opening the monetary floodgates. There's one problem with Trump's plan – Fed chairman Jerome Powell. Originally appointed by Trump, Powell has become an obstacle. His 2024 rate cuts were widely seen as a political move to help Kamala Harris, and now he's trying to prove his independence by keeping monetary policy tight. But Powell doesn't need to agree – he just needs to react. If economic conditions deteriorate fast enough, the Fed will have no choice but to pivot. It always does. On this episode, we discuss the Biden administration's decision to withdraw two major student loan forgiveness plans and the impact on borrowers. These plans could have reduced or eliminated debt for millions of Americans, particularly those in repayment for decades or facing financial hardship. With the Supreme Court striking down Biden's earlier forgiveness efforts and operational challenges cited for the withdrawal, borrowers are left searching for alternatives. We also explore how many Americans are struggling to make necessary financial decisions to repay their student loans and what forgiveness options still exist under Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and other programs.
On this episode, we dive into the SAVE income-driven repayment plan and what borrowers need to know if they're enrolled. While payments may be paused for now, there are legal battles unfolding. The 8th Circuit Court in Missouri has already ruled against student loans, and the 10th Circuit Court in Kansas may follow suit. This could push the Supreme Court to make a critical ruling on President Biden's SAVE plan. Stay informed as we discuss the potential impact on student loan borrowers across the country.
Brad Young discusses a range of timely topics in this episode, starting with humorous takes on Black Friday shopping experiences and listener anecdotes about crowds and chaos. The conversation then moves to the legal dispute between Governor Parson and Sam Page over filling the St. Louis County prosecutor vacancy, analyzing the conflict between state law and county charter. Brad also critiques student loan forgiveness, questioning the fairness of shifting debt from individuals to taxpayers.

What's the difference between “waiving” and “modifying,” and how does that affect whether the President of the United States can forgive student loan debt? In this episode, we sit down with Stetson Law Professor Mark Bauer to discuss Biden v. Nebraska, the Supreme Court case that struck down the Biden administration's partial student loan forgiveness efforts. On the way we consider the major questions doctrine, the vagaries of standing, and how sometimes―just sometimes―your work in antitrust law gets made into a Hollywood movie.
President Trump generally does not support student loan forgiveness and would likely seek an end to some student loan forgiveness programs. But can the President claw back student loan forgiveness that has already been granted? It's sparked a lot of concern in recent weeks, especially as President Biden has continued to propose new student loan forgiveness plans and already has set a record during his presidency for the most student loan forgiven. As of November 2024, President Biden has provided $175 billion in student loan forgiveness for 4.6 million borrowers, more than any previous president. For borrowers that have already received forgiveness, the question looms:Could Trump claw back student loan forgiveness that has already been granted? The answer is generally no.Let's break it down and learn why past loan forgiveness is likely protected, but future loan forgiveness could be in jeopardy.
SAVE was brought to court to stop it. However, todays hearing implies there are major changes coming to PAYE as well. Student loan forgiveness may not be taking place for a number of plans. In a major legal twist, President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan has been blocked once again. Just yesterday, a federal judge in Georgia dismissed the state's lawsuit, saying they didn't have enough standing to sue. But then the case moved to Missouri, where a judge appointed by Trump issued a new injunction temporarily stopping the plan from moving forward. Here's why it matters: The ruling bars the U.S. Department of Education from erasing any student debt until the court reviews the case. The GOP-led states behind the lawsuit claim Biden's plan harmed state-run agencies like the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA). The judge is saying if Biden cancels loans now, the case cannot be reviewed properly. Legally, it's a huge delay, and financially, it leaves millions of borrowers, especially Black students, hanging. The legal battle could take weeks or months, meaning the promised debt relief is on hold. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Biden's plan has been on hold since September after seven Republican-led states challenged it in federal court in Georgia. But on Wednesday, a federal judge decided not to extend the pause and instead dismissed Georgia from the lawsuit, finding that it lacked the legal right, or standing, to sue. The hosts discuss what this means for loan borrowers. Dave and Dujanovic's Producer Caitlyn Johnston talks about how Bidens's loan forgiveness program has impacted her student loans and the confusion that has come with it.

He questions her competence and attributes her political success to luck and the use of "various means" to get ahead.

The vast majority of international trade is conducted using the U.S. dollar, bolstering the strength of the American currency and leaving nations open to potential sanctions damage. Given the growing number of sanctions imposed on Russia and China is response to a litany of human rights abuses committed by their dictatorships, both countries have spearheaded efforts both in BRICS and beyond to “de-dollarize” their economies, ideally rendering them immune from sanctions. “De-Dollarization” was a major topic of discussion at the 2023 BRICS summit, in the short term by replacing the dollar with the Chinese yuan or the Russian ruble. In the long term, however, BRICS representatives have suggested that the member nations of that coalition could create their own currency to protect its members from sanctions or any human rights requirements Western nations may demand. People with certain federal student loans have until Tuesday to consolidate them and qualify for debt cancellation. The Department of Education is reviewing over 40 million loan accounts and issuing credit for past payments that previously didn’t count toward forgiveness. Also in this episode: a look at the latest inflation reading, Americans’ savings habits and pop-up coworking spaces.
Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC) says President Joe Biden's new student loan forgiveness program won't improve his polling numbers. “He's trying to justify everything he's doing. He cannot justify the unleashing of illegals into this country. He cannot justify the crime that's going on with basically no consequences. He's grasping at straws, but that doesn't surprise me,” says Rep.
