(Part 2) According to the gospel, the Holy Spirit chooses to live inside believers -- as a "little church" here on earth. That's why you've heard things like, "your body is a temple." That's because the Holy Spirit is now living in YOU. In Bible times. The local Temple was a living picture of where God dwelt. However, as we will see in the podcast today, in the ancient city of Corinth, it was a mockery - full of sexual sin - and Christians needed to transform their thinking with the Gospel and start to see their own bodies as holy so they weren't blindly going along with culture.

In the first part of our second episode, John and JJ discuss the phrase Nothing is Sacred and how that may apply to art and the creative process. We talk about the subversive genius Lenny Bruce and how he kicked open the potential for what comedy can be.
In the second part of our second episode, John and JJ discuss the phrase Nothing is Sacred and how that may apply to art and the creative process. We talk about German painter Gerhard Richter and how he used painting as a vehicle to address taboo issues, while imploring techniques that left nothing on the table (but a lot on the canvas).
Throughout the world, there are many who feel empowered to play God with the soul and the life aborning in the womb. They arbitrarily alter the trajectory of a soul for the sake of convenience, or so-called ‘reproductive rights' or based on the erroneous belief that the bodies they wear are their own. But all life originates with God, making it sacred. Convenience is no excuse for terminating a life. Reproduction is a privilege…and a sacred portal for the birth and maturation of the soul. And our bodies are on loan to us from God for the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of our ascension. Each life represents a precious opportunity to balance karma and fulfill a divine plan. When life is denied, the opportunity for self-mastery is lost. When life is aborted (and life begins at conception), the soul's life plan and opportunity to ascend are also aborted. It is perhaps the saddest moment in heaven, when a soul's chance at immortality is cut short or denied altogether.
It seems too often that euphemisms in our culture go beyond softening social interaction to propping up the powerful. This week Allen and Jeff explore euphemistic language in various Scriptures, political spin, and how it might create life (or manufacture manipulation) in our own speech. Maybe we don’t take language seriously enough? More pointedly, how do we choose between softening words to foster connection and, on the other hand, telling it like it is and speaking truth to power? Also in this episode Jeff and Allen bring back a classic segment formally called ‘Jesus or Jay-Z?’. However, in light of their conversation on language, Jeff and Allen realize it is probably time for a segment name-change. It is important to understand relationships from a higher perspective and today's show and Thursday's part 2 will help you do that. Tune in to find out more...
Forcibly displaced from their homes, this year alone more than 59 million people will officially become refugees—half of whom are under age 18. In the face of such overwhelming injustice, how do God's people respond? Pastor Chris looks to Isaiah 58 to make some guesses as to what God might tell the Church in DuPage County today.
As Pastor Rob examines the massive tragedy of sexual abuse and exploitation taking place in our world today, he points to a biblical account of just such a sin, and reminds us of the staggering difference between disgrace and God's grace that offers the only path to hope and healing, both for the victim—and for the perpetrator—of sexual violence.
As we continue our series on living out biblical convictions in the face of cultural norms, Pastor Chris offers a surprising word on the kind of worship that pleases God. Looking to Isaiah chapter 1, he details the special care God requires us to extend to widows and the fatherless--and the great care Christ Himself showed to those with special needs.
In the fifth in a series of messages on some of the most challenging cultural issues of our day, Pastor Rob addresses the subject of abortion, laying out two foundational truths that will clarify our thinking and our response to this critically important issue.
Total Eclipse of the Heart, Alanis Morrisette, and high school reunions are some of the stops along a stroll through the respective pasts of our hosts this week. In this episode, Jeff, Mona & Allen conclude their secular vs sacred series with a discussion on the sacred in terms of selves. What makes a person sacred? Can one person be more sacred than another? Do we confuse the sacredness of a person’s status, position or accomplishments with the sacredness of the person?
