How do we fix our desire for relationships with people that will inevitably become broken. And how do we stop ourselves from aligning healthy with boring? That's what we're talking about on this episode of Lovers and Friends. Attraction, whether emotional, physical, or psychological, is a complex process. It can be influenced by numerous factors, from biology to personal history. If someone finds themselves repeatedly attracted to individuals with certain undesirable characteristics (like the makeup of a fuckboy: charismatic but not reliable, fun to be around but not fun to be apart from because communication is not stable or when out of sight they're unpredictable, they make big plans but don't consistently make the small actions to move towards that goal especially when it comes to you, etc…), understanding the underlying causes and taking conscious steps to modify patterns of attraction can be beneficial. Here's a scientific, step-by-step approach: Self-awareness and reflection Next, Examine past patterns Understand the biology Cognitive-behavioral techniques Increase self-worth Expand your social circle Educate yourself Avoid idealization practice mindfulness Follow Leah Lamarr https://www.instagram.com/leahlamarr https://sociatap.com/leahlamarr/ Show Love to Our Sponsors Zoc Doc Go to Zocdoc.com/LOVERS and download the Zocdoc app for FREE Hello Fresh Go to http://HelloFresh.com/50lovers and use code 50lovers for 50% off plus free shipping Skims Try The Cotton collection and more are available now at http://SKIMS.com Plus, get free shipping on orders over seventy five dollars! Mary Jane (MJ) grew up in a home where both parents were alcoholics. She did not hear the words “I love you” from her mother until she was an adult with children and never heard those words from her father. She spent her life in search of love, and finally found what she was looking for in Jesus. Now MJ says, “Jesus is everything.”
Pastor Houston Tucker continues our series in the life of Jacob.
Join us for our second week of our series "What Are You Searching For" as we look at what Jesus says about our search for love and recognition.
On the 25th episode of The Cinematic Odyssey Max and Tristen talk about the well beloved film Fallen Angels from Hong Kong second wave filmmaker Wong Kar-wai. Fallen Angels was a film born out of secondary ideas from Kar-wai's previous film Chungking Express. While Fallen Angels shares the same visual identity as the last, this film explores isolation, love, and melancholy in dark, gritty, neon-lit alleyways, streets, and apartments. We talk in detail about Wong's distinct and instantly recognizable visual aesthetic and how he incorporates visual motifs to enhance a theme, tone, or mood. Wong Kar-wai is a master of the art form and Fallen Angels is one of his finest pictures in his legendary filmography.
Today's guest is Sarah Levy; she's a writer in recovery and author of the new book “Drinking Games.” At the age of 28, Sarah, on paper, looked like she had it all together, a great job – and a successful life that was on track. The truth was she felt empty and alone, suffered from blackouts, and repeatedly put herself in dangerous situations. Sarah thought using alcohol helped heal her broken heart, empowered her to date, and quenched her thirst for validation. But drinking only numbed her pain and dimmed her light as she dated different kinds of men, feeling perpetually hung over and spiritually bankrupt. When she gave up alcohol, she thought her life was over. But for Sarah, her last sip was the moment when her life started. In sobriety, she fell in love, changed careers, moved across the country, got married, published a must-read book, and became the woman she is today. If you're looking to change your relationship with alcohol, are sober curious, or want to be inspired, then this episode is for you!Sarah Levy is the author of Drinking Games, a memoir in essays from St. Martin's Press. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine (The Cut), Glamour, Elle, Vogue, Refinery29, and Cosmopolitan, among other publications. Sarah has written articles such as “Falling In Love Without Alcohol” and “Giving Up Alcohol Made Me Date Again Like a Teenager.” Drinking Games has been named most anticipated by Good Morning America, Good Day DC, the LA Times, New York Post, Zibby Mag, Buzzfeed Books, Pure Wow, and Apple Books to name a few. And the favorable reviews keep on coming! Sarah is a graduate of Brown University and lives in Los Angeles by way of New York City.I'm excited to feature Sarah on Shot@Love today and admire her greatly for spreading awareness around sobriety and her goals to change the culture around addiction and alcoholism. I hope you enjoy this conversation. To learn more about Sarah Levy, go to www.sarahllevy.com or follow her on Instagram @sarahllevy.

This episode is all about love, specifically focusing on some of the issues that people with BPD face when they are trying to find romantic relationships. This topic is often spoken about from a very bias opinion, painting a picture of toxic relationships that are a direct result of BPD but I think it's important to note that many times, people with mental illnesses can be the victims of abusers and those who try to take advantage of our negative mental states. Obviously it's impossible to cover all aspects of why finding love is so hard for people with BPD but I try to give some reasoning behind why we might act the way we do, especially when it comes to being paranoid about people leaving us. The fear of abandonment is something that comes from deep within us, usually as a result of tumultuous childhood's and low self esteem. If we give our worth to someone else - putting them up on a pedestal where their love is all that matters - we might find ourselves feeling broken when we recognize that they can't fix us... They are human. Humans are not perfect, even if we desperately want them to be. The ability to change and grow is something that has to be supported. On this episode, Laura talks with Carson, whose change in relationship status sparked a cross-country move. Then, Laura hears from unlucky-in-love Albert, who wonders if it makes sense to re-establish himself somewhere other than his longtime hometown to find what he's looking for, relationship-wise. For advice, Laura taps Bill Chopik, associate psychology professor and director of Michigan State University's Close Relationships Lab. Finally, Laura meets up with Margo, who lives in the big rig she drives cross-country for her career. Margo loves her life behind the wheel but is starting to think that for her personal life as well as dog Xander's well-being, it might be time to come off the road.
