Deliverance from estrangement can happen all at once and stay steadily moving forward in an upward direction. But often, it's not linear. It's messy, and sometimes that messiness can cause you to wonder if you've done something wrong or messed everything up. When I was estranged from my daughter, I was not one of those mothers who said I had done everything right. I knew I'd made huge mistakes. I did some things really well, but I knew I had messed up.
