“The sense that each of them is gently teasing the other, and each enjoying the matching of wits. For all of the interesting people Jesus meets in John, I think this individual is the most interesting and that's part of why this story is there in the Gospel. There's a word game. A kind of “He said – She said”. The Samaritan woman starts by using the literal meaning of words and Jesus starts by using the symbolic meaning, and then, just when you realize what they're doing, they both switch and do the opposite. It takes two people to do that, and to enjoy it. I can almost imagine Jesus smiling at the joke when the woman talks to him. And her smiling back. In short, maybe these two liked each other. Give me some water, says Jesus. Clear enough. He wants the wet liquid. You're a Jew, she answers. Theological. She's stalling. If only you knew, I'd give you living water, he says. Wait a minute – all of a sudden we're not exactly talking about H2O anymore. Give me some of that living water that ends thirst, says the woman, and I won't need to haul it up the hill. Making fun of Jesus and his flipping back and forth…just a little. Water, water, water, and water, but not the same meaning each time. Literal, figurative, symbolic, real – lots of the double entendres that are characteristic of flirting, and all in only a couple of verses!” -https://unsettledwords.com/2014/03/21/did-jesus-flirt/. Greg goes sol to deliver a very powerful message from Pastor Jim Freeney Ph.D Summary: Are you a drunkard? Of course you should stop drinking! Probably most would agree that you should forsake the booze and go on the wagon. Are you a “social drinker”? Now that's a different situation. I hope in the next few minutes to give you some convincing reasons to choose to abstain from alcohol. Proverbs 23:29-35 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. “They hit me,” you will say, “but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/abishai/message

The word Addiction can be a sensitive topic for many. However, many still refuse to believe that one can become addicted to Alcohol. It is known that 51.5% of adults 18 and older are regular drinkers. In our culture social drinking is acceptable and the norm. So when does drinking become a problem? Alcohol related mortality is a leading preventable cause of death in the US. The deaths are most common among middle aged adults aging 35-64 years old. 76% are men and 24% are women. About 88 thousand people die every year in the US from alcohol related causes. Millions of adults suffer from alcohol use. The age of first use can occur around the age of 12 in most cases. Most concerning is that many will later develop Alcoholism which is an addiction to the consumption of alcoholic liquor. Such can lead to mental illness, compulsive behaviors and other problems in ones life resulting from Alcohol Dependency. Alcoholism is considered one of the most serious form of problem drinking. Suffers will often become defensive or be in denial. Drinking can become the most important thing in their life. It can also be tricky to spot as many can be secretive or perhaps be a functional alcoholic. Social use, binge drinking and daily use can become confusing. The causes of alcohol use disorder is still unknown. However when one drinks it changes the chemicals in the brain. This is one reason why some feel a pleasurable feeling. However others can feel a different feeling. Such can also have a negative impact on family members and others. Join me and my callers as I discuss Alcohol and its destruction on families. I will provide education, insight and resources to address this growing concern. Problem Drinking Versus Alcoholism. Also How To Tell If One's Drinking Is Out Of Control.
