Low libido is one of the most common — and least talked about — symptoms women experience, especially in their 30s and 40s. And despite what we're often told, it's not random, it's not a personal failure, it's not a "natural part of aging" and it's definitely not something you just have to accept. In this episode, we're diving into why libido drops in the first place and what's actually happening underneath. We'll unpack the role of dysregulated cortisol, suppressed sex hormones, mineral depletion, and hidden stressors in the body and why libido is one of the first things to shut down when the body doesn't feel safe. This episode will help you understand why guessing doesn't work, why testing changes everything, and what foundational steps you can start taking now to support your hormones, nervous system, and overall vitality. If you've been wondering whether that spark is gone for good, this conversation will show you why it's likely just been blocked, and how to get it back. Thanks for listening. Do you feel like midlife has brought a whole new set of "giants" you never asked for—belly fat, hormone imbalance, low energy, and a mind that keeps telling you nothing will work anymore? In this episode of The Menopause Makeover Podcast, I'm sharing a message straight from my own heart—and straight from Scripture. We're talking about the story of Caleb and Joshua… and why their perspective matters so much for your midlife weight loss journey. Because here's the truth: every season has giants. In midlife, those giants often look like stubborn weight gain, hormone imbalance, inconsistent motivation, and a mindset that whispers, "This is just how it is now." But that doesn't have to be your report. This episode will help you see how mindset—not willpower—is often the missing piece when you're trying to lose weight in this season. We'll talk about how to acknowledge real challenges without letting them define your future, and how to shift from the defeat report to the report of the Lord—one grounded in strength, hope, and steady consistency. If you're tired of fighting your body and ready for a wiser, more supported approach to midlife health, this episode will encourage you deeply. Most people blame posture for their neck and shoulder pain, but research shows the real root cause is often hormones, not mechanics. In this episode, Ben explains how cortisol, thyroid hormones, sex hormones, insulin, and even growth hormone can lock your muscles into chronic tension and why most doctors miss these connections. You'll learn how stress hormones alter pain pathways, increase inflammation, and create tight traps, stiff necks, and burning shoulders. Ben breaks down a simple daily Cortisol Calm Protocol using breathwork, post-meal walking, a no-stimulation hour, and gratitude to quickly shift your body out of fight-or-flight. He then exposes the deep link between an underactive thyroid and muscle aches, frozen shoulder, fatigue, and chronic stiffness — plus which full thyroid panel to request from your doctor (not just TSH). Next, he explains why women 40–60 experience sharp increases in joint pain during perimenopause and menopause due to changes in estrogen that affect lubrication, cartilage, strength, and inflammation. You'll also hear why people with insulin resistance or diabetes are five times more likely to develop frozen shoulder. High insulin creates stiff connective tissue and slows healing. Ben gives practical metabolic strategies: lower carbs, test fasting insulin, walk after meals, strength train, and use intermittent fasting. The episode closes with the overlooked role of deep sleep and growth hormone in tissue repair. Poor sleep dramatically reduces recovery, while fasting and strength training boost growth hormone naturally. FREE GUIDE: How To Lose 1 Pound Of Fat Per Day HERE -https://bit.ly/48AYCfC

Feeling like your hormones have completely taken over — your mood, your brain, even your ability to make a simple meal plan in menopause? In this episode, I'm inviting you into my own story of hormone imbalance, brain fog, and the surprising gift of humility in midlife. I share the morning in my kitchen when I finally broke down before the Lord, realizing that white-knuckling, over-controlling, and trying to "do all the things" was not the path to healing. We'll talk about what actually happens as hormones shift in menopause — how estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin, and cortisol impact your brain, energy, weight, sleep, and resilience — and why your old strategies of "eat less, move more" stopped working. You'll learn what it looks like to stop fighting your midlife body and start partnering with it through protein, strength training, recovery, boundaries, and a posture of surrender instead of pressure. If you've been frustrated with your body, your hormones, or your lack of "willpower," this conversation will feel like a deep exhale and a fresh start. Do You Have A Hormone Imbalance? Take my FREE Hormone Symptom Profile Assessment: https://bit.ly/takemyhormonequiz Most midlife women think they're “managing” their stress… but that's only because we've gotten used to feeling overwhelmed. The reality? We're running on cortisol autopilot—multitasking, under-sleeping, and juggling 47 tabs in our brain—while our hormones are quietly freaking out in the background. According to the American Psychological Association, more than half of us ages 35 to 55 report chronic stress symptoms like trouble sleeping, unexplained fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, and yes, even weight gain—even though we don't feel stressed day to day. And chronically elevated cortisol has been directly linked to increased abdominal fat, blood sugar swings, and weight that refuses to budge in perimenopause. In today's episode, I'm sharing how everyday stress can silently stall weight loss in perimenopause—plus my 10-minute morning reset to calm your cortisol and get the scale moving again. In this episode, I‘ll address your most commonly asked questions, including: ✅ Why can't I lose weight in perimenopause even when I'm eating healthy? ✅ How does stress cause weight gain during perimenopause? ✅ Why am I gaining weight even though I don't feel stressed? ✅ What are signs my cortisol is too high in perimenopause? ✅ What morning habits help reduce cortisol? ✅ How do I know if cortisol is stalling my weight loss? If you've ever wondered why the scale won't budge—and why nothing you're doing seems to work—this episode finally connects the dots between stress, cortisol, and stubborn fat. — “WHAT I WISH I KNEW AT 40” SERIES 101 | The Clean-Eating Trap: 5 Surprising Foods That Can Wreck Your Metabolism in Perimenopause [What I Wish I Knew Series]: https://pod.fo/e/350c50 100 | Perimenopause Weight Gain? Do You Have A Hormone Imbalance? Take my FREE Hormone Symptom Profile Assessment: https://bit.ly/takemyhormonequiz Eighty to ninety percent of the women I talk to tell me they're “eating clean.” The problem? They're following the same “healthy” diet that worked for their 30-year-old metabolism…and hormones. According to a 2022 study in the Journal of Midlife Health, nearly seven in ten women in perimenopause who report “eating clean” still show elevated inflammation markers—one of the biggest drivers of sluggish metabolism and stubborn weight gain. In today's episode, I'm peeling back the curtain on five so-called “healthy” foods that might be secretly slowing down your metabolism…and why the very foods you thought were helping you lose weight might actually be keeping the scale stuck. In this episode, I‘ll address your most commonly asked questions, including ✅ What foods slow down metabolism in perimenopause? ✅ Is soy good for your hormones in midlife? ✅ Which is better for your blood sugar: pure cane sugar or agave? ✅ How does inflammation contribute to weight gain in perimenopause? ✅ Can eating more whole grains help me lose weight after 40? ✅ What are some sneaky sources of sugar hiding in a “clean” diet? ✅ Why can't I lose weight even though I'm eating healthy? If you've ever wondered why your “healthy” diet seems to be working against you, this episode will show you what's really keeping your metabolism stuck. — “WHAT I WISH I KNEW AT 40” SERIES 100 | Perimenopause Weight Gain? In this episode of Confessions of a Male Gynecologist, Dr. Shawn Tassone explores the vital connection between hormone health and breast cancer screening. Drawing from his best-selling book The Hormone Balance Bible, he breaks down the most common screening methods — mammography, ultrasound, and thermography — and explains how each one works, their benefits, and their limitations. Dr. Tassone also discusses emerging imaging technologies, like the QT scan, and emphasizes why understanding your options is key to prevention and peace of mind. Whether you're curious about alternative testing methods or looking to make informed choices about your breast health, this episode empowers women with knowledge to take charge of their own care. Episode Highlights: Key takeaways from The Hormone Balance Bible on hormone imbalances and overall wellness The differences between mammography, ultrasound, and thermography in breast cancer screening Why thermography is a physiological test, while mammography and ultrasound focus on structure The pros and cons of each screening method — and why no single test is perfect How ultrasound can sometimes catch what mammograms miss The lower false-positive rate associated with thermography The promise of emerging imaging technologies like the QT scan Why prevention is more powerful than detection in the fight against cancer How to choose the breast screening method that aligns best with your health goals and comfort level Episode Resources: Dr. Shawn Tassone's Practice | Tassone Advanced Gynecology Dr. Shawn Tassone's Book | The Hormone Balance Bible Dr. Shawn Tassone's Integrative Hormonal Mapping System | Hormonal Archetype Quiz Medical Disclaimer This podcast and website represent the opinions of Dr. Shawn Tassone and his guests. Why Your Labs Look “Normal”—But You Still Feel Off Functional Testing Secrets to Solve Fatigue, Hormone Imbalance, and Gut Issues Are you constantly told your labs look “fine,” yet you feel anything but fine? Fatigue, brain fog, stubborn weight, hormonal chaos, and digestive issues like bloating or IBS symptoms are all signs that your body is asking for help—but your standard lab work isn't giving you the answers. In this episode, I'm walking you through the exact functional lab tests I use in practice to uncover the root causes of energy crashes, perimenopausal symptoms, weight loss resistance, gut health imbalances, and more. These tests go far beyond what you're used to from conventional medicine—and they've changed the game for hundreds of my clients. We're talking about the kind of testing that doesn't just tell you if something is in range… but shows us if your body is actually functioning the way it's supposed to. We look at hormone pathways, digestion, detox capacity, mitochondrial energy production, gut microbiome patterns, and even hidden nutrient deficiencies that affect everything from metabolism to mood. If you're struggling with low energy, hormone imbalance, unresolved gut symptoms, or just can't seem to get your health back no matter how “clean” you eat… this episode will open your eyes to what's possible. When we shift from asking “what's wrong?” to “how is my body functioning?”—that's when the transformation begins. These functional labs don't just give us numbers. They show us your body's story. I've seen symptoms like IBS, migraines, bloating, insomnia, hormonal weight gain, and even mood swings melt away when we stop guessing and start testing the right way. You deserve more than “your labs are normal.” If you're ready to finally understand why your energy, digestion, or hormones feel off—even if your doctor says everything looks fine—this episode will give you the insight and empowerment you need.

Send us a textPerimenopause affects every woman at some point in life but often doesn't get the attention it deserves, with symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep issues starting as early as our late 30s. As women, we need to advocate for ourselves during this transition and find providers who listen to our concerns rather than dismissing them as normal aging.• Perimenopause usually begins in early to mid-40s, though some women notice changes in their late 30s• Hispanic women reach menopause around age 49 on average, slightly earlier than the general US population at 51• High sugar and refined carbs can worsen insulin resistance and hot flashes• Alcohol and caffeine often trigger hot flashes and disrupt sleep• Protein and fiber become especially important during this transition to maintain muscle mass and metabolism• Phytoestrogens in foods like flaxseed, soy, and legumes may help reduce hot flashes• Track your symptoms to identify patterns and bring these notes to doctor appointments• Don't hesitate to get a second opinion if your provider doesn't take your concerns seriously• Balance your plate with protein, colorful vegetables, and whole grains at each meal• Strength training at least three times weekly helps protect bone density and muscle massIf today's episode resonated with you, I'd love for you to share it with a friend, subscribe to the podcast, and connect with me for more resources.Listen to Dr. Makhija's podcast on Peri and menopause here Thank you for listening. In this episode of the Gutsy Health Podcast, Juanique Grover is joined by Dr. Brian Rodgers and hormone consultant Tauscha Johansen to unpack what most people misunderstand about hormone health—particularly when it comes to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). They dive into the symptoms women often ignore or get gaslit over, explain how BHRT works, and discuss why quality of life—not just lab results—should guide your decisions. They also explore how sex hormones don't function in isolation. If your thyroid, adrenals, or mitochondria are struggling, your hormones will be too. The episode is both practical and empowering, especially for women who are tired of being told "everything looks normal" when they clearly don't feel it.TakeawaysSex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) influence almost every system in the bodyBioidentical hormones mimic your body's natural hormone structure, making them easier to metabolizeThe thyroid, adrenals, liver, and mitochondria all need to function well before hormone therapy will workSymptoms like low libido, brain fog, fatigue, and mood swings are often early signs of imbalanceDelivery methods matter—pellets, creams, patches, and injections all behave differently in the bodyThe Women's Health Initiative study caused widespread fear, but the science has shiftedFunctional testing provides a better view than conventional labs aloneYou're responsible for 90% of your healing—therapy supports the remaining 10%BHRT isn't about vanity; it's about reclaiming your ability to feel human againDon't wait until you're falling apart—early support makes a differenceChapters00:00 Introduction to Hormone Health03:44 Common Signs of Hormone Imbalance07:20 What Are Bioidentical Hormones?10:32 Delivery Methods: Pellets vs Creams vs Patches13:49 Why the Thyroid Must Be Addressed First17:11 Revisiting the WHI Study and Misconceptions21:58 Who Is (and Isn't) a Good Candidate for BHRT26:35 Functional Testing vs Standard Hormone Panels30:42 The 90/10 Rule of Healing34:50 Hormone Optimization and Quality of Life40:12 Closing Thoughts: Advocate for Your Own HealthReady to Take Control of Your Healing?Enrollment for the Gutsy Health Academy is now open!If you want to learn how to heal your body from the inside out—starting with the foundations—this program is for you.
