Some newcomers were undoubtedly sincere, but others recognized a massive engagement opportunity and treated the scandal as another piece of profitable content. The warning from the beginning was to watch what happened when the clicks slowed down, because genuine commitment is measured by who continues doing the work when the algorithm stops rewarding it. That prediction has largely played out, with many of the loudest voices moving on to newer controversies and tragedies once Epstein stopped generating the same level of attention. Their disappearance exposed the difference between people committed to understanding a complicated, decades-long scandal and those who were simply using victims, documents, outrage, and unanswered questions to grow audiences, sell products, and feed the machinery of online engagement.The Epstein story is especially vulnerable to this kind of exploitation because it contains everything the modern attention economy rewards: wealth, sex, powerful people, secrecy, political connections, institutional failures, and unanswered questions. That environment encourages irresponsible personalities to turn uncertainty into certainty, speculation into fact, and the suffering of real victims into marketing material, while partisan commentators selectively weaponize Epstein against political enemies and ignore inconvenient evidence involving their own side. None of this means newcomers should be dismissed simply for arriving late, but genuine credibility requires humility, accuracy, consistency, and a willingness to keep following the evidence after the crowd moves on. The clearest measure of someone's motives is not how loudly they shouted when Epstein was trending, but whether they remained when the traffic disappeared. On a Delta flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta, a passenger set up a fake network posing as the plane's Wi-Fi, and the crew pulled the real one offline. It's an "evil twin," a lookalike network that tricks you into connecting so an attacker can steal your logins. A man in Australia did exactly this on real flights and got more than seven years. A nonprofit hospital system, AnMed, got hit with malware and had to close nearly 80 facilities. Then a ransomware crew took over its verified Facebook page and posted the ransom demand in public. When criminals can post from your own account, they steal your megaphone, not just your data. For the first time ever, a White House memo would let vetted private firms strike foreign cybercriminals, with a million-dollar escrow and sign-offs from Justice and Homeland Security. Leo Strauss is not a name many conservatives would know, but his philosophy, and the students who follow it, radically redefined the movement. Strauss was an accomplished scholar with an interesting method for interpreting philosophical texts. Despite an impressive intellect, Strauss' larger project had implications that his students followed to create the movement we call neoconservatism.
