Have you ever felt sad by the prospect of not drinking alcohol again? If you have, you're not alone. It's something that many men experience when rethinking alcohol, but isn't spoken about widely enough. In episode 203 of The Alcohol ReThink Podcast, Patrick Fox explores the often overlooked emotional side of quitting drinking, experiencing grief and saying goodbye to alcohol. Not just the 'I'm done' kind of goodbye, but a deeper, more intentional letting go of alcohol and everything it once represented. This episode includes a powerful message from a listener celebrating his one-year soberversary.Patrick also explores why saying goodbye to alcohol isn't just about changing habits, it's about honouring loss, identity, and transition. He shares how grief can show up unexpectedly, even months into sobriety and why that doesn't mean you're failing. In fact, it often means you're doing the real work. Patrick reflects on the role of ritual in humans, the stories our brains create, and how choosing to walk away from alcohol on your own terms is one of the most powerful things you can do.This is a real, honest, and surprisingly uplifting episode about letting go… and moving toward what's next. Some awesome takeaways:Saying goodbye to alcohol involves more than just not drinking.Grief is a normal and often hidden part of the sobriety journey.Old environments, holidays, and social settings can stir up feelings, not just cravings, but loss.Rituals can help you process the end of a chapter and support your identity shift. You're not weak for feeling like you're struggling, you're human, and that grief is a sign of growth.Letting go with intention helps reclaim your power and clarity in sobriety. Some cool ideas on how you can create your own ritual and say goodbye to alcohol in your life.Work with Patrick:Get 1-1 coaching, quit drinking and start showing up like the man you want to be in life.

Dr. Lin talked about the US Surgeon General's advisory on the risks of cancer from drinking alcohol.
The country's top doctor is calling for cancer risk warning labels on alcohol. On “Post Reports,” why, and what that could mean for you.Read more:Last week, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said in an advisory that studies suggest alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of cancer, contributing to 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 related deaths each year. For that reason, he says health warning labels on bottles of alcohol should be updated to include a cancer risk warning and that recommended limits for alcohol consumption should also be reassessed, given the increased risk of certain cancers. Today on “Post Reports,” public health reporter Fenit Nirappil breaks down the science behind the surgeon general's advisory, what it would take to get warning labels amended and what it could all mean for you. Today's show was produced by Rennie Svirnovskiy with help from Sabby Robinson. It was edited by Lucy Perkins with help from Monica Campbell and mixed by Sam Bair. Mel, Todd and Michael discuss whether it's appropriate for Christians to support war-efforts. If world peace apart from Jesus is not possible, should we even strive for it as a goal? Next they talk about how to accept correction from your superiors. What are the best mannerisms to have in this moment? What some things you definitely should not do or say when receiving correction? They also talk about the distinctions between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. The conversation finishes on the topic of alcohol. Can drinking alcohol have positive effects for a Christian or should it be avoided entirely?
Episode 305 Hello friend! I'm so happy you're here. Thank you for listening to To 50 and Beyond. Do you remember the Calgon commercial from the 1970s? In it, the gal was stressed at the end of her day and said, "Calgon, take me away!" This episode is about our desire to escape from daily life stressors. It's a natural human experience. If we don't practice escaping, we let our stressors fester, which can lead to drinking alcohol. In this episode, I share my thoughts on "creating a life you don't need to escape" and why it's essential to have an "escape plan" that helps you lose yourself in self-care—not in alcohol. You can read the full show notes with links to resources mentioned here. Don't miss out on enrollment for The 2024 Team! In this episode, I'm sharing the story of how I quit drinking five years ago and what I've learned along the way. I break down the science behind dopamine and alcohol, and offer a different alternative to being more intentional with booze—I call it a "conscious drinking lifestyle." If you're considering opting out of "mommy wine culture" or reducing your alcohol consumption just because that's the kind of person you want to be, you'll learn exactly how to do just that with my three step process. This episode will help you learn more about alcohol, your relationship with it, and help you decide what the best options are for you to create the life you want with alcohol as a mom. Foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) What are FASD's?Is it safe to have any level of alcohol when pregnant? How does it affect the unborn baby? How and when is it diagnosed? These are questions Vic and Hamish should have probably found the answers to a long time ago, but like many people, they both chose to ignore the facts about FASD and live in hope that it wouldn't happen to them. Silly really.FASD a condition, or range of conditions, that we've all heard of, but for some reason don't take too seriously. We presume we shouldn't drink when trying for a baby but make excuses....'Surly, one won't hurt?' So, today is about facts, finding out what it is and how alcohol consumption can have impact on a baby during the first trimester. As you may have guessed... neither of these two buffoons know much about anything, so, they have invited on an incredible guest, Sophie. Sophie has lived lived experience of FASD after exposing her unborn child to alcohol in early gestation and today discusses her own experience of living with the guilt and shame that comes alongside this diagnosis. She also chats about how it affects her sons daily life, the challenges, the wins and how gaining more knowledge about FASD has made their relationship closer. This episode is for anyone that has ever wondered about this condition or is essential listening if you are trying for a baby.Noteshttps://www.nofasd.org.auNOFASD Australia works to support families living with FASD and prevent harms caused by alcohol.
