Danny and Caleb talk about the constant rebooting of stories across all media and going on to talk about persevering in our faith. Shark Boy and Lava Girl are getting a reboot that leaves Caleb and Danny asking “Did anyone ask for this? Anyone at all?” We look at the various reboots across all forms of media and whether there is a need for new stories or not. “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:2-8 ESV)Also, be sure you check out the book The Christmas We Didn’t Expect by David Mathis of DesiringGod.org. In this episode, we dive deep into the viral hit "Old Town Road" and how it has become the most popular song of 2019. We'll discuss the artist, Lil Nas X, how he used the power of internet memes to get this song off the ground, and what happened when Billboard unfairly pulled "Old Town Road" from the Country charts a few months ago. Get some Wranglers on your booty, pour some Yeehaw Juice, and get ready to fall in love with this song if you haven't already.
The foundation of the Cape Fear region can be traced to Brunswick Town, the area's first enduring settlement founded in 1726. But Brunswick's story isn't just defined by being the first. It was the site of one of the first instances of the rebellion that sparked the American Revolution, the home of two royal governors and the battleground for struggles with the Spanish and the wrath of Mother Nature. On this week's extended episode Jim McKee, site manager of Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson Historic Site stops by to talk the history of the town, just how important it was to North Carolina's early rebellion and why only 20 percent of Brunswick's story has yet to be uncovered today. Cape Fear Unearthed is written, edited and hosted by Hunter Ingram. Additional editing by Adam Fish. Season three is sponsored by Northchase Family Dentistry and Tidewater Heating & Air Conditioning. Matthew Sweet talks to poet and writer Elizabeth-Jane Burnett, environmental scientist, Jules Pretty and geologist, Andrew Scott, and historians Matthew Kelly and Philip Coupland about Soil and Culture and Survival Stories For some Soil is where they come from, for others it is an object of aesthetic beauty, for most of us it is the means by which we get what we need to live. Poet and writer Elizabeth-Jane Burnett's forthcoming A Dictionary of Soil explores the lives lived within and through the soil of three fields which constitute the origins of her family's ancestral village. Agroecology expert, Jules Pretty says Soil We Can Rebuild It and in an environmentally friendly way and it will continue to feed us. Geologist Andrew Scott examines soils from deep time to discover what they can tell us about how the planet and life on Earth evolved. Historian Matthew Kelly is interested in the cultural history of landscape and focuses on environmental policy in Britain after World War II and Philip Coupland is the biographer of Jorian Jenks, a man who might have been regarded as the father of the British Green Movement if he hadn't joined Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. They join Matthew Sweet to think through our developing relationship with the life-giving dirt beneath our feet and discuss whether a happy ending just might be possible.Presenter: Matthew SweetGuests: Jules Pretty, Professor of Environment and Society, University of Essex author 'The Earth Only Endures' (2007) and 'Agri-Culture' (2002) Andrew C. Scott, Emeritus Professor of Geology, Royal Holloway University of London author of ‘Fire on Earth: An Introduction' (2014) Elizabeth-Jane Burnett, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, Newman University.
