Here's a quote from the writing:I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain! One always finds one's burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Today, Cass has a short conversation with Neil Carter on the struggle for ex-Christians to establish personal agency, or what he calls self-possession. After that, Cass and a clinical therapist named Jeanine interview Trav Mamone. Trav is a Bisexual genderqueer atheist blogger and podcaster, who has two podcasts: Bi Any Means and the Bi Skeptical podcast. He blogs on freethoughtblogs.com and has had articles published in many medias including Humanist.org, Splice Today, and has been featured on numerous podcasts.  The word for today’s episode is tension. And by that I mean a strained relationship between. Between gender identifications, between sexual orientations, between being selfish and selfless, between getting what you want and wanting what you got, between love and hate, between the pursuit of self and the denial of self. This episode goes out to those trying to discover what or whom they like and are giving themselves permission to like those things or people. To those who eventually, through intensive labor and self-examination, find themselves in the body and mind of what appears to be their own singular unique person and identity, mixed with weakness and strength, joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, and they say yes to it. Welcome to the community of self-lovers who, by simply being honest, make the world a better place. In so doing, we project our waning self-dislike on others less and less and own up to what it means to not only be human but to be ourselves. As a warning, you will overdo it at first and it may get ugly and even painful for those around you. You may hurt others but don’t let that stop your progress because the ones that truly lovely will take it on the chin to see you emerge and will be by your side when the smoke clears. And the others…they just may see you and your imperfectly perfect self and find the permission they need to do their own work toward self-acceptance. But if they do, they just might hurt you in the process, but you’ll recognize what’s happening and take it on the chin for their maturation.  This is part of the tension. The most honest relationship is a love/hate relationship and yes-sayers know how to abide in it and let love win.  We taped the conversation with Trav Mamone on January 28th, 2017, and February 26th with Neil Carter. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Our show is available on most podcast platforms.  Also, you can support us monetarily in two easy ways: you can pledge one dollar per episode through Patreon; that’s www.patreon.com/eapodcast, or leave a lump-sum donation through PayPal at our website, www.everyonesagnostic.com. Today's episode concludes our two-part look at one of your most requested questions:  what might be in Donald Trump's taxes! We begin, however, with a listener criticism from Peter Crinklaw, who thinks Andrew gave short shrift to the policy argument for educational vouchers. Next, we conclude our two-part interview Tony Di Fatta, a practicing CPA, to take a deep-dive into all the things we might -- and might not -- find in the event that Donald Trump's taxes are ever disclosed.  All of this is meant to shed some light on the question:  should Democrats be focused on finding out what's in Trump's taxes? After our main segment, we tackle another listener question; this one from our top patron Zabby, who wants to know about the recently-passed Jacksonville, Florida Human Rights Ordinance. Finally, we end with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam question #12 regarding witness credibility.  Remember that TTTBE issues a new question every Friday, followed by the answer on next Tuesday's show.  Don't forget to play along by following our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and/or our Facebook Page and quoting the Tweet or Facebook Post that announces this episode along with your guess and reason(s)! In today's episode, we take a look at one of your most requested questions:  what might be in Donald Trump's taxes! Next, we give you part one of our two-part interview Tony Di Fatta, a practicing CPA, to take a deep-dive into all the things we might -- and might not -- find in the event that Donald Trump's taxes are ever disclosed.  All of this is meant to shed some light on the question:  should Democrats be focused on finding out what's in Trump's taxes? After our main segment, we inaugurate a new segment about how close President Trump is to impeachment with a question about 18 USC § 1001 and the prohibition against making false statements. It's time for another exciting episode of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! This week on the pre-ramble, I talk about two Donald Trump conferences : One in which he rambles and calls the press the 'enemy of the American People', and one in which he claims that some sort of terrorist incident occurred in Sweden, when nothing in fact happened at all. I also talk about Milo's appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, and how Larry Wilmore is my hero. I also mention how Trav Mamone recorded a promo for NaNoCon 2017, and how awesome he is for doing so! On the palaver this week, I talk to Ari Stillman, William Ferguson, and Katie Quesnel about their experiences and journeys being nonbinary. We talk about the struggles they face; how and when they became aware they were 'different'; the extent to which they are 'out'; and what cis people can do to help the non-binary community. This was a learning experience for me, and I hope you will learn as much as I did, or, if you are non-binary yourself, that you realize that you are not alone.  Music by Dot Dot Dash, cdbaby.com/cd/dotdotdash

I’m Trav Mamone and my guest for Shiri Eisner, author of the book Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution. Shiri, thanks for joining me today. Shiri:                 Thanks for having me. Trav:                First, I want to ask you about your background. Tell us a little bit about that. Shiri:                 I have a very particular background both in terms of academics, and in terms of activism. These things came together in parallel for me. I’ve been an activist for about a decade now, which is about the amount of time that I’ve an academic like going to the university. I started doing activism in conjunction with starting to go to the university and my background in activism, the place where I started from Palestine Solidarity work, which is probably how a lot of people here get started in activism if they are left wing. I think that has a lot to do with the intersectional and radical element in my politics and my work.                         From there, from Palestine Solidarity activism I went on to doing a lot of feminist and radical, queer, transgender and eventually bisexual work. In terms of the academia, I went through a similar process where I started my first degree studying just a combination art history, film studies and gender studies for me for everyone I took that particular track. From there I had this moment both in my activist and my academic life where I realized that my sexuality was something I could do. For a lot of years I was both organizing and studying academically about a variety of subjects. Mostly feminism and radical queer politics, and I were aware of the lack discourse or action around bisexuality.                         I was talking about it with my friends about bisexual erasure and bi-phobia communities and how no one was doing anything but at no point did I think to put these things together. To put my activism, my skills as an organization to activism, and the same goes for my academic life. For years, I was studying basically feminism with some excursions into queer theory, which is very much gay and lesbian, and despite the flowery title and what happened is I reached a moment in my life where I realized that this was something I could do. I felt I found my calling. For the first in the university I was … I think I was on my fourth year of my BA, and it took me five years because I had to work while studying. For the first time I was allowed to choose my own topic for a paper and I chose bisexuality in two courses. One was a course about pornography. One was about film theory, and this happened alongside a realization that I could organize in activism around bisexuality. These things started in parallel for me. Trav:                Cool. Shiri:                 Basically, that’s the background where

First, I want to ask you about your background. According to your bio, you grew up Pentecostal and became born again when you were 18 but you eventually de-converted. What led you to atheism?Sincere:           Basically, it comes down to education, or autodidactic self-education, I guess you could say, like most people who are religious, I was born and raised religious. The Pentecostal faith is especially evangelical, and at least in the black tradition. It’s the faith, the dogma is so engrained, people are so convinced of it like there’s absolutely no questioning it, whatsoever. Virtually, my entire family is religious especially my mother’s side, which is quite large.                        All the confidence and enthusiasm was conditioned into me growing up so that even though I wasn’t what you would call a religious person as a teenager, when I would act out, and be a knucklehead like many teens are, the belief system was still there and I always believed to a certain extent. My faith was what you would call dormant for three years when I was a teenager but then I rededicated myself to the Christian when I was 18. Then at that point, when I rededicated myself I was really a fervent believer.                        I was what you would consider a very developed and very rigid about my religious beliefs for a few years there from between 18 to 20/21 but then I began reading more. My curiosity always gets the best of me and I suppose that’s a good thing. I wanted to know more so I began to research more about church history, the origin of the story, Stolen Bible. I acquainted myself with theological but also more so than that biblical historian content. Doubts crept in only like marginally here and there. I learned more about the formation of Christian beliefs, the Christian belief system.                         What really jolted my faith was actually reading Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code believe it or not necessarily, due to the book having anything earth shattering to say itself but due to the questions it asked, what I felt it was asking, asking in essence. It just hit me, just trying to say to me you believe all these things but have you really asked yourself why? It’s common for us to uncritically accept things where you are told or taught, and to have … to take for granted truth claims, and just assume the that yo

I’m a resident in the UK. I identify as feminist, bisexual and atheist. I actually am a barrister, and I hold a master’s degree in gender, sexuality and human rights. I’ve worked as a trade’s unionist for about a decade defending workers’ rights nationally and internationally and I’ve done so as a national woman leader of Nigerian Labour Congress. I’ve been the vice president of the International Trade Union Congress and been a member of some ILO committees on Freedom of Association and Rights.                         Basically, I’ve worked as a trade unionist, and right now, I’m more of an advocate and human rights campaigner. I just wrote a book Freedom To Love For ALL: Homosexuality is Not Un-African and I do a lot of campaigns around LGBT issues and atheism.Trav:                Good, good. You are an atheist now but did you grow up religious?Yemisi:            I was born and raised as a Christian in Nigeria. I was born in a religious country into a religious family. I was deeply religious myself in my early years, actually in my teenage years. I happened to be an ardent reader and always wanted to know everything about whatever I’m involved in. I always wanted to excel in my field, and since I took my Christianity seriously then I had the urge to read everything could about it, and I read my Bible, and as a child I was Bible crazy because I had read every single page of the Bible, and all the available colorful books of Bible stories.                        I enjoyed gathering other children and teaching them about the Bible and the adults just watched sometimes in awe. Really I think I was well into the Christian [inaudible 00:02:59] and my parents were members of White Garment Church, which is not your typical orthodox European Christianity. The Celestial Church of Christ was a bit more along the beliefs in prophecy, Holy Spirits, divination and cursing out demons. I would say at the age of 13, I was already a recognized celestial prophetess.                        Being versitle in Bible knowledge, and a fairly good prophetess, everyone said my calling was to be a great pastor for God. Well, funny how things turned out. I’m already working on my book on that. You just watch out for it, “From Prophetess to Ath

Sarah thanks for joining me today.Sarah:              Hi, thanks for having me.Trav:                First, I want to ask you about your background. According to your blog, you grew up in a fundamentalist household, right.Sarah:              That’s correct.Trav:                Tell us a little bit about that.Sarah:              While my parents they felt, identified as Christian fundamentalists, and from earliest years I was home schooled, and like many kids in the Christian home school movement that meant that I really didn’t have any exposure to the outside world, and my only social interactions occurred at our extremely conservative church. And later I went to a fundamentalist Christian high school, and then finally ended up at a public school for a couple of years, and then went to a very conservative Christian college. You might be sensing a theme there, and college is where I became an atheist.Trav:                You also say that for a while you were a feminist member of the emerging church. Tell us about that.Sarah:              By the time, I entered Cedarville University, that’s my Alma mater I had quite a few questions. I was very uncomfortable with what I used to call the Republicanization of Christianity because incoming equality, and women’s right, and I wouldn’t necessarily call myself, I hadn’t quite gotten to the point where I was pro-gay rights. But I was very, very uncomfortable with the position … just to leave it at that and TRO, and that’s I really started exploring political questions, and what does feminism really mean, and that meant shifting away from the churches I used to attend, and the emerging church movement has plenty of its own problems. But it offered a smaller, and I suppose less god-like in my view alternative to the churches that I grew up.Trav:                Right, I was a actually a part of the emerging church movement for a good couple of years, and first it was really liberating but then I don’t know … some parts of it weren’t just really making sense. Basically, I was deconstructing doctrine so much that eventually I came to deconstructing God, and I deconstructed Him so much that i didn’t really have anything left.Sarah:              Right, yeah, that’s kind of what happened to me where I was really exploring a lot of theological questions, and easily breaking down especially the teaching in regards to gender that I’d been raised with. And I don’t think a person necessarily have to leave the Emerging Church but for me that happens to be where it led where I was standing in church one day, and given that I really enjoyed

On today's episode, I chat with Neil Carter of Godless in Dixie about being an atheist in the Bible Belt. Transcript provided by Marvin: Trav:                Hi everyone, this is Trav Mamone, host of the Bi Any Means podcast. With this podcast, I wish to explore the intersection between social justice and secular humanism. I have a small but growing audience, and I want to attract more listeners and also readers to the blog. There’s just one problem, podcasting can cost money. Most of the technology is free but I want to expand my services beyond what I can afford right now. For example, I hired a guy from Fivver.com to do transcripts of my podcast for the deaf and hearing impaired, and I’m also thinking about getting a proper camera to make YouTube videos because right now I’m basically just making videos with iPod Touch. Anyways, I know I have a small audience so I’m not expecting to rank in millions but if you all like what I’m doing, and you want to help out you can pitch in just a buck a month and that will go a long way. Back to the show.                         Welcome to the Bi Any Means podcast, a place where social justice and humanism meet.                         Hello and welcome to another episode of the Bi Any Means podcast, the podcast companion to BiAnyMeans.com. Neil thanks for joining me today. Neil:                Thanks, thanks for having me. Trav:                First I want to ask you about your background, you were raised Baptist, right? Neil:                That’s right, Southern Baptist. Trav:                Okay, what was that like growing up? Neil:                It was a positive experience. When I was young my family was marginally involved, I would say nominally involved. We attended regularly but it wasn’t a consuming occupation for us. Really the first one to get really deeply involved in church activities was me. I had a conversion experience when I was about 15, and I jumped in with both feet started teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies, doing ministry trips, preaching tours, things like that.                         I’m the first one that got involved in the church at that level, and ironically I’m now out of the church and my family is now very involved in ministry, and I have several family members who are either on staff or have leadership positions at the church that I grew up in which was megachurch in Jackson, Mississippi. Trav:                You also say you to seminary, and you were a part of the House Church Movement, right? Neil:                That’s right and those were two pretty things. My background was Southern Baptist but the seminary that was closed to me was Reformed Theological Seminary, which is more Calvinist and Pr

Transcription: Trav:                Welcome to the Bi Any means podcast, the place where social justice and humanism meet. Hello and welcome to another episode of the Bi Any Means podcast, the podcast companion to bianymeans.com. I am Trav Mamone and my guest today is Heina Dadabhoy. They are a former contributor to Skepchick, and they are currently blogging at Heinous Dealings at Free Thought Blogs. Heina, thanks for joining me today.Heina:              My pleasure.Trav:                Now for those who don’t know I previously did an email interview with Heina a few months ago on Bi Any Means but with the podcast my audience is starting to grow. For those who missed our previous conversation, can you tell us about growing up Muslim and what eventually led you to atheism? Heina:              Well, I grew up as a Muslim in sunny southern California. I was very religious. In fact, more religious than my family at points, and that also meant I read a lot of religious texts. I knew a lot of things about the religion that everyone around me claimed to believe in and follow but that they didn’t know, things that led me to doubts but never too strong. When 9/11 happened I was actually in high school. It was my second day of high school but while it didn’t make me immediately di-convert it did make me further examine my beliefs especially since so many people around me were asking me questions, and asking me to justify my beliefs and my religion.                        Then that led to several years of doubt in high school. I started reading things outside of religious texts, picked up a few autobiographies of people who were free thinkers, people who were queer, things like that. Eventually I got to college when I was 17 and I started taking different classes, and I took a philosophy class that was on the philosophy behind what’s the theology of the Catholic Church. Essentially the writings of Augustine, and I realized that a lot of what Augustine was saying was the exact same thing my family had been saying to me for years and years, and what my religious teachers had been saying to me for years and years to justify Islam.                         Yet Augustine ended up founding the Catholic Church in its modern form in a lot of ways. I realized that it was in congress that you could start with the same premises, and end up with a different conclusion. I scaled back from very religious Muslim to sort of secular deist, Muslim flavored but eventually realized through various readings of biology, and more philosophy that I didn’t really believe in a creator deity either, and I joke that I fell into a black hole for six months because I’ve always been an avid writer.                        I always kept personal journals of my thoughts that I was so afraid of my thoughts I’d stopped journaling for six months, and at the end of that I came out an atheist. Trav:                Okay. What inspired you to start blogging about Islam atheism and feminism?Heina:              I actually started blogging about being an ex-Muslim
