Welcome to Episode 36 of the Khandaan podcast - your home for all things related to The Khan Troika. This week we make a deep delve into the past with 1995’s Rangeela, starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Jackie Shroff. Directed by Ram Gopal Verma, Rangeela was a relaunch for Urmila, who had already had an extensive career as a child actor but was struggling to make the leap to adult dramas the way so many child actors do. Rather unwittingly, it was also a departure for star Aamir whose commendable performance here is different from anything he had done before. This movie is also notable for its music by AR Rahman, which was a sensation when it released and is seemingly ageless. This was a very happy trip into the past for the three hosts who have lots of personal anecdotes to share as well as a new appreciation for the strengths of this film. We also discussed the London Indian Film Festival or the LIFF, which is going on right now. Tickets are still available and this might be your chance to see some seriously good cinema. Sujoy and Asim had some contrarian thoughts about Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, a movie currently playing on Netflix but which has had a significant presence on the festival circuit, including LIFF.
