And how do we strengthen our connection with Him through an understanding of His attributes? In today's episode, we focus on the attribute Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful). With the insights of an esteemed guest, we will explore the depth of this characteristic, its impact on our spiritual journey, and its manifestation in our daily lives.

If there's resentment, let it go. If there's a strained relationship with family, take the first step in mending it. Every day, we take just one ayah. We read it, go through its tajweed rules, reflect on its meaning, and explore the timeless lessons and wisdom it holds. As an added challenge, we're memorising one ayah per day from this incredible surah—the surah Rasulullah ﷺ recited every night before sleeping. He called it “The Protector” because it protects us from the torment of the grave.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Today, we're looking at the second-to-last ayah, ayah number 29. Let's begin by reading it together:قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَـٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۚ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍThis ayah follows directly from yesterday's discussion, where the Quraysh were challenged to reflect. Allah instructed Rasulullah ﷺ to tell them: if Allah were to destroy him and the believers or show mercy upon them, it wouldn't change the fate of the disbelievers. Now, the Prophet ﷺ is told to say: “He is Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate). We have believed in Him, and upon Him we rely. Soon you will know who is in clear misguidance.”Let's pause here and reflect on a few key lessons.First, the name Ar-Rahman. This is one of the most powerful names of Allah. In fact, it's so significant that there's an entire surah named after it.Ar-Rahman is often translated as “The Most Merciful,” but mercy alone doesn't fully capture its meaning. Mercy in English usually implies forgiveness after a mistake. Ar-Rahman goes far beyond that.In one hadith, Allah says, “I am Ar-Rahman, and I created the womb and derived its name from Mine.” Think about the relationship between a baby and its mother's womb. The baby is completely sustained and protected without doing anything. It is nourished, safe, and loved—all through the mercy and compassion of the mother.

We're not just memorizing—we're reflecting, exploring its timeless lessons, and growing spiritually. If you've stuck with us this far, mashallah! And if you've just joined us, welcome aboard—take it at your own pace. Even one ayah a day is a blessing.Let's get started with today's ayah—ayah 20.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Meaning of Ayah 20Translation:“Who is it that can be an army for you to help you besides Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful)? Indeed, the disbelievers are only in delusion.”Reflections and Lessons1. A Reminder of Our PowerlessnessThis ayah poses a rhetorical question: If you stand against Allah, who can possibly help you?Think about it—Allah has already described some of His forces:• The earth, which He tamed for us but can shake violently.• The wind, which carries blessings or destruction.• The stars, part of His armies, used as missiles against devils (as mentioned earlier in the surah). So who can possibly defend us if we choose to rebel against the Creator?2. The Illusion of StrengthAllah points out that disbelievers live in delusion. They think their power, wealth, or status can shield them from divine consequences. But look at history:• The mighty Firaun drowned in a body of water.• The advanced civilization of Thamud, with their homes carved into mountains, was destroyed in moments.• Even today, natural disasters remind us how powerless humanity truly is.Our perceived strength is fragile. Real strength lies in submission to Allah.
We were truly honoured to be joined by Harchana today. Her story was nothing short of extraordinary. Having migrated to Australia as a refugee, she sought not just safety, but also the opportunity to rebuild her life. Her journey was a testament to incredible resilience, as she navigated the complexities of displacement and underwent a profound personal transformation.Harchana's past was filled with immense difficulty and trauma, but it didn't define her. Her path to Naarm (Melbourne) marked the beginning of a new chapter—one focused on healing, empowerment, and renewal. She spoke with deep gratitude for the safe and welcoming environment she found in Australia, which became a nurturing ground for her dreams.Today, Harchana stands as a beacon of strength and perseverance, a living example of what it means to overcome the darkest of circumstances. By sharing her story, she has inspired so many, showing that no matter how challenging the past may be, it's possible to create a future filled with hope and possibility. It was a privilege to hear her speak and witness the light she brings to the world. The show was aired in bilingual Tamil and English. Welcome to Top of the Morning by Mint, your weekday newscast that brings you five major stories from the world of business. It's Wednesday, December 11, 2024. This is Nelson John, let's get started. Lenovo has been quite adept at navigating the business landscape in India, avoiding the regulatory scrutiny faced by Chinese companies in India. But how? A big part of its strategy was to jump into local manufacturing in 2005, well before many others. This early start not only helped it build a solid trust base but also positioned it as a committed player in India's economic scene, not just another overseas company trying to tap into a lucrative market. Lenovo's approach to being a global brand rather than just a Chinese one has also played well for it. It has been very careful about compliance and made it a point to pay taxes diligently, which clearly sets it apart in a market where scrutiny around Chinese investments has intensified. Gulveen Aulakh takes a detailed look at the Chinese tech giant's strategy for survival in the Indian market. The longstanding friction between Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Tata Trusts continues, even after the passing of Ratan Tata. SP Group, holding an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons, aims to renegotiate its loans by using these shares as collateral to attract new investors—a move not sanctioned by Tata Trusts. Tata Sons, having transitioned to a private company in 2017, restricts share transfers without approval, a condition reinforced by the company's Articles of Association. In a mail to Mint's Varun Sood, Siddharth Sharma, CEO of Tata Trusts, emphasized that Tata Sons shares should not be used as collateral, highlighting the restrictive nature of share transfers after the company's privatization. This stance is supported unanimously by Tata Trusts' executive committee, indicating a continuation of the group's traditional governance approach even under the new chairmanship of Noel Tata. The long-standing financial dispute involving the National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL) and its investors has taken a new turn. The NSEL Investor Action Group (NIAG) recently withdrew their support for a proposed one-time settlement (OTS) with 63 Moons Technologies Ltd, complicating the decade-long effort to recover investors' dues owed to investors since NSEL's collapse in 2013. Neha Joshi reports that the decision came after 63 Moons attempted to access ₹300 crore from assets that were previously attached, ostensibly for operational expenses, without a prior consultation with the NIAG. This move was perceived by the NIAG as a breach of the foundational agreements of the settlement talks, prompting them to withdraw their endorsement for the settlement offer, which initially aimed to distribute ₹1,950 crore to investors—about 42% of the total ₹4,650 crore claimed by investors. However, the NSEL Investors Forum (NIF) has claimed that it has secured the support of investors, having approximately 64.5% in value of the outstanding claims, and it is confident that it will secure the majority consent for the settlement.HMD's new 'Fusion' smartphone is stirring curiosity with its promise of modularity, primarily focusing on easy swaps for its display and back panel. Unlike fully modular phones that allow changes to core performance elements, the Fusion offers customizable back panels with specific functionalities, like an LED light ring for creators and a gaming controller, Shouvik Das explains. This level of modularity is moderate but intriguing, especially as the global regulatory environment shifts towards stronger right-to-repair laws. Modular phones have been around in various forms, like Google's ambitious but ultimately shelved Project Ara, and others like LG's G5 and Motorola's Z2, which incorporated modular aspects to enhance flexibility and potentially extend the device's lifespan. However, these products generally didn't achieve mass-market success due to high costs, limited third-party accessory support, and an overall market preference for more integrated, seamless smartphone experiences. As celebrities increasingly face the brunt of defamatory content circulated by trolls, they are turning more toward legal measures to protect their image. High-profile figures like AR Rahman, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar have recently threatened or initiated defamation suits against media platforms that host damaging content about them. This trend highlights a growing concern among celebrities about the unregulated nature of social media, where unchecked dissemination of content can rapidly tarnish reputations, Lata Jha reports. Legal experts point out that celebrities are especially vulnerable to defamation due to public curiosity about their personal lives. Platforms like social media amplify these issues by allowing rapid spread of unverified information, often without the traditional checks of editorial oversight. This has led to a rise in legal actions by celebrities not just in India but globally, reflecting a proactive stance against damaging allegations.
In this no-holds-barred episode of Cyrus Says, Cyrus and Punit Pania dive straight into the madness of today's headlines and beyond. From AR Rahman's divorce drama to Delhi's dystopian smog, they keep it raw, real, and ridiculously funny. The duo doesn't shy away from the mess of Maharashtra's election antics or the absurdity of paying 4 lakhs for a first grader's school fees. It's unfiltered chaos, the way only Cyrus and Punit can deliver. They riff on whether Messi's trip to India can outshine Coldplay's hype and crack up over Samay Raina's risky dark comedy moves. Toss in some banter about Nadal's jaw-dropping records and the wild ‘Trump Effect' on global politics, and you've got an episode that's as unpredictable as it is hilarious. Interview with Jeff Lang 2024 Australian guitarist-songwriter-vocalist-producer, Jeff Lang has built a reputation for making startling music that is accomplished, intricate, gutsy, melodic and loaded with soul. Often taking unexpected turns, he has consistently inspired his audiences by creating a stylistically diverse catalog of over 25 albums. Jeff has mischievously called his music ‘Disturbed Folk.' One writer referred to him as a “quiet achiever.” But the overall impression one has from observing Jeff's lengthy career is that of a driven man who keeps his head down, playing and recording music as if his very life depends on it. Outside of his homeland, Jeff has toured the UK, Europe, Japan, India, China, South Africa, New Zealand and Canada as well as concentrated work in the U.S., where he has played upwards of 300 shows, living there for 6 months at a time. He has appeared on prestigious American radio programs A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage and Acoustic Café. Jeff has shared stages with Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Richard Thompson, Bonnie Raitt, Ani Di Franco, Chris Whitley, Albert Collins, Loudon Wainwright III, Greg Brown, John Butler, AR Rahman and Bob Geldolf, among many others. Jeff has delivered show-stopping performances at festivals all across the globe: The Dublin Blues Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Quebec City Music Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival, Fuji Rock, Glastonbury, Echo Park China, Ottawa BluesFest as well as on his home turf at Port Fairy, Woodford, Bluesfest Byron Bay and Womadelaide. Jeff Lang's unique musical vision easily finds a home in myriad settings, from large festival stages to the intimate, long-running Ann Arbor, Michigan club The Ark to the Sydney Opera House. Most importantly, Jeff Lang has achieved what is a rarity in the cluttered world of contemporary sounds: his own voice. Jeff's info https://jefflang.com.au
“When people talk about what skills kids are lacking in America these days, two of the skills that come up a lot are the ability to listen to each other and have some empathy for each other. Some people would say it's not just kids that are lacking those skills; it might be what is really missing from our society. I think choir is the best subject to teach those skills.”Hailed by The Oregonian for providing “the finest choral concerts in Portland in recent memory,” Ethan Sperry is the Director of Choral Activities at Portland State University, where he conducts the world-renowned Chamber Choir and leads undergraduate and graduate programs in conducting. He is also the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Oregon Repertory Singers, one of America's most distinguished adult choruses. Choirs under his direction have performed at over a dozen ACDA and NAfME Conferences, won over thirty awards and medals at international choir competitions on four continents, and sung at The Hollywood Bowl, The Kennedy Center, and the United Nations. Under his direction in 2013 The Portland State Chamber Choir became the first American Choir ever to win the Grand Prix at the Seghizzi International Choral Contest in Italy, and in 2017 they became the first American choir to win the Grand Prix at the Bali International Choral Festival, the largest choral gathering in Asia. Sperry has recorded albums for the Naxos and Gothic labels. A prolific arranger of World Music for choirs, Dr. Sperry is the editor of the Global Rhythms series for Earthsongs Music, one of the best-selling choral series in the world, and is also published by Hal Leonard. In the Quran, we are taught the beautiful qualities of the worshipers of Ar-Rahman, who will earn Allah's pleasure on the day of resurrection. Do you know what it takes to be in the categories of worshipers of Ar-Rahman? What kind of promises does Allah make for the worshipers who embody these blessed qualities?

The title of the surah, Ar-Rahman, appears in verse 1 and means "The Most Beneficent". The divine appellation "ar-Rahman" also appears in the opening formula which precedes every surah except Sura 9 ("In the Name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy"). English translations of the surah's title include "The Most Gracious",[3] "The All Merciful",[4] "The Lord of Mercy",[5] "The Beneficent", and "The Mercy-Giving". In the fourth century CE south Arabian pagan inscriptions started to be replaced by monotheistic expressions, using the term rahmān.[6] There is disagreement over whether Ar-Rahman ought to be categorized as a surah of the Meccan or Medinan period. Theodor Nöldeke and Carl Ernst have categorized it among the surahs of the early Meccan period (in accordance with its short ayah length), but Abdel Haleem has categorized it in his translation as Medinan,[7][8] although most Muslim scholars place Sūrat ar-Rahman in the Meccan period.[9][10] According to the traditional Egyptian chronology, Ar-Rahman was the 97th surah revealed.[11] Nöldeke places it earlier, at 43,[12] while Ernst suggests that it was the fifth surah revealed.[13] 1-4 God taught the Quran to the human. 5-16 God the creator of all things. 17-25 God controlled the seas and all that is therein 26-30 God ever liveth, though all else decay and die 31-40 God will certainly judge both men and jinn 41-45 God will consign the wicked to hell-fire 46-78 The joys of Paradise described [Wikipedia]
