2023.06.21 – 0902 – Mic ‘Flight and Fight'Mic fight and flight[1]The ‘fight or flight' response is well known: an automatic physiological reaction that's perceived by the ‘caveman' in us as stressful or frightening. The sympathetic nervous system is activated, triggering an acute stress response that prepares the body to confront it, or get away from it. A cascade of adrenaline, noradrenaline and acetylcholine make the heart pound, pupils dilate and breathing quicken. Muscles tense with the increased blood flow and beads of sweat appear. The stomach can feel nauseous or full of ‘butterflies'. “Adrenaline plays an important role in the fight-or-flight response by increasing blood flow to muscles, output of the heart, pupil dilation response and blood sugar level.” (Source: Wikipedia) “Noradrenaline production reaches its higher levels during situations of stress or danger, in the so-called fight-or-flight response. In the brain it increases arousal and alertness, promotes vigilance, enhances formation and retrieval of memory, and focuses attention; it also increases restlessness and anxiety. In the rest of the body, norepinephrine increases heart rate and blood pressure, triggers the release of glucose from energy stores, increases blood flow to skeletal muscle, reduces blood flow to the gastrointestinal system, and inhibits voiding of the bladder and gastrointestinal motility.” (Source: Wikipedia) “Acetylcholine is the chemical that motor neurons of the nervous system release in order to activate muscles.” (Source: Wikipedia) [1] A good write-up of the fight-or-flight response is here: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/understanding-the-stress-response Hosted on Acast. If ragtime piano can be seen as the starting point in the evolution of jazz piano, then the next step in that evolutionary process wasn't a step all; it was a "stride." Around 1920, the popularity of ragtime piano began to wane, as blues music became the new fad. In response to this — while also incorporating some of the influence of Tin Pan Alley — several pianists, primarily in Harlem, began to experiment with a blending of styles. The result was stride piano. Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller was an American jazz pianist, organist, composer, violinist, singer, and comedic entertainer. His innovations in the Harlem stride style laid much of the basis for modern jazz piano. SOURCE: Wikipedia. The Joint Is Jumpin' was released in 1937. Words by Andy Razaf and J. C. Johnson, music by Thomas "Fats" Waller/arr. Alan Billingsley. From the 1978 musical Ain't Misbehavin'. The musical is a tribute to the music of Fats Waller. It was a time when Manhattan nightclubs such as the Cotton Club and the Savoy Ballroom were the playgrounds of high society and Lenox Avenue dives were filled with piano players banging out the new beat known as swing.
I talk about the future with Mikko Hyppönen, the author of "If it's Smart, it's Vulnerable" - we discuss the huge risks of having smart devices (and dumb devices getting smart connectivity). What does this mean for your privacy and security? Is the future just gloom and doom? Mikko Hyppönen is a Finnish computer security expert, speaker and author. He is known for the Hyppönen Law about IoT security, which states that whenever an appliance is described as being "smart", it is vulnerable. He works as the Chief Research Officer at WithSecure (former F-Secure for Business) and as the Principal Research Advisor at F-Secure. Hosts Aljon Go and Dave Bossert go behind the mic with voice actor, David Kaye (Arishem - Marvel Studios The Eternals, Transformers, Ratchet and Clank). They also talk more about Marvel Studio's THOR: Love and Thunder, Disney and pop-culture news, and more. David Kaye's voice-over career began with ‘The Great American Hero', General Hawk in the DIC animation series, GI Joe in 1989. Working as an on-air talent for radio station CKLG (LG73) quickly became less interesting as both on-camera and behind-the-mic roles started taking up more time. Over the next decade and a half, David's on-camera burgeoned along with his voice career. David's biggest moment was when he was cast as ‘Megatron' in 1994 in the wonderfully popular series ‘Transformers.' As a new animation art form was taking off bolstered by Mainframe Entertainment. ‘Beast Wars' was born (‘Beasties' in Canada) and would run for four seasons of “…the most fun you could ever have!”, says Kaye. Thus began an almost twenty-year relationship with the ‘Transformers franchise. In 2007, David “crossed over” to become the only actor in the history of the franchise to play the lead villain AND the lead hero when he was cast as ‘Optimus Prime' for Cartoon Network's ‘Transformers: Animated.” David's voice can be heard in Insomniac's ‘Ratchet & Clank' video game series as the loveable robot ‘Clank and “Hale' on'. He's also been featured in ‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions' as ‘Mysterio', ‘Nick Fury' and ‘Captain America' in ‘Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2', ‘Missing Link' in ‘Monsters vs Aliens', the game, and more recently, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Arishem from Marvel Studios - The Eternals, and Barry Barris in Farzar on Netflix. Location: 53.585474, -8.271482 Aleen Cust made history as the first female vet in either Ireland or Britain and faced great opposition despite females surely being infinitely more knowledgeable about giving birth than men! Cust nevertheless went on to practise in County Roscommon with William Augustine Byrne MRCVS,[3] having received a personal recommendation from William Williams,[6] and lived at Castlestrange House (location of the Castlestrange stone, in the Suck Valley) near Athleague.[4] The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography states that there is reason to believe that Byrne and Cust "lived as man and wife and that she had two daughters, born in Scotland, who were later adopted".[1] In 1904 she was briefly engaged to Bertram Widdington, the son of her former guardian, but following objections from his family regarding her career, the wedding did not go ahead.[8] Cust was later appointed as a veterinary inspector by Galway County Council under the Diseases of Animals Acts, an appointment that was denied by the RCVS due to her lack of professional recognition.[6] The post was advertised again, and when Cust was again selected for the post an agreement was reached under which she carried out the duties of the position with an amended title.[6] Upon the death of Byrne in 1910, Cust took over the veterinary practice.[4] She practised from Fort Lyster House near Athleague.[9] (Both Castlestrange and Fort Lyster were later demolished.[10]) Source: Wikipedia

It is a popular benchmark used in the measurement of an entity's (person or corporation) ability to produce enough cash to cover its debt (including lease) payments. The higher this ratio is, the easier it is to obtain a loan. The phrase is also used in commercial banking and may be expressed as a minimum ratio that is acceptable to a lender; it may be a loan condition. -- Source: Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debt_service_coverage_ratio)
“Know where you stand so the rest of the world sees where you are.” -Kristen M. Olson New T&T series ALERT: T&T Coach's Corner! These will be mini-casts addressing specific business or personal (or usually a combo of both) issues, situations, or skill sets. I will unpack the main topic, ideally provide some learnings or perspective, and then end with a mini exercise for you to apply the learning immediately to your own life. I hope these are good hot takes that can help us all expand in all the best ways. Here is T&T CC #1! Today I will be addressing KPIs, Key Performance Indicators. A performance indicator or key performance indicator is a type of performance measurement. KPIs evaluate the success of an organization or of a particular activity in which it engages (Source: Wikipedia). I will unpack the formal definition and make up of KPIs as they are great to keep the business in order and on mission. The problem with KPIs, like statistics, is that they don't tell the whole truth. The numbers never lie, but there is not measurement for many key details that keep you on path to success- leadership, hustle, commitment, drive, enthusiasm, transparency, and so many more. We can spend days on this for business application, but I want to focus on personal KPIs today. How do you measure your success? Is it the same way the world does for you, via resume, awards, certificates, weight lifted or lost, degrees, etc? What about all the in between, all the things in life you deem as major accomplishments that the rest of the world might not even know, but prove you have massive skill sets outside of what the resumes show? Maybe you have saved a life, literally. Or have trained in competitive gymnastics since you 6. Maybe you raised all of your siblings since you we 15. You can't tell me there aren't more applicable leadership skills there than a 3-day, $2,000 leadership course. I advise my clients to “humanize the brand” all the time. The consumer is savvier than ever and they are intentional about their time and money, seeking truth and wanting to part of the (business) mission. Your personal life should be no different. Let people in, share your whole truth, and highlight all the gold stars that few know about, but truly qualify you for the next big step (personally or professionally). If you don't share ALL the applicable skills you are undervaluing yourself and likely missing compensation and more importantly, IMPACT. I will share more of my own examples today in this cast and then leave you with a quick exercise to identify 5-7 of your own personal KPIs and then how to implement them into your own world, right now. In 2022, don't do more, share more. You are already enough. Highlights: KPIs. Stats. Applied meaning= reality. Disrupting reality by telling your truth. Defining, highlighting, and sharing all of our success points, personally and professionally. How the personal and professional worlds overlap. Humanizing your own brand aka life. Questioning a better way and letting people in. Knowing where you stand so the rest of the world sees where you are. T&T CC Exercise: Personal KPIs Identify 5-7 personal (not already on the resume) success points (stories, accomplishments, anything that defines you that you are proud of, but would likely not say in an interview). Write down 3 avenues you can share your KPIs in a non-traditional way. Ex. On a podcast, a conversation with your boss over lunch, a social media post, etc. Write down 3 ways you verbally share your KPIs/worth. Have 3 sentences or ideas you know you can bring up and have them ready. Ex. If you know you are going into an interview and you guys will cover leadership, have your formal resume stats ready and then lay in one of our prepared sentences that highlight your personal KPIs= “Yes, I was the VP of X Company and lead a team of 300. Leadership started at an early age however, as I raised my brothers and sisters since I was 15. That experience really deepened my focus and empathy for team members of all ages and backgrounds allowing me to earn their trust and respect quickly.” Review your resume and everything that is a listed accomplishment. Then think about all the personal KPIs that are not listed and sit in all the known and soon-to-be known success that you have accomplished thus far. Really feel it and remind yourself of this as often as possible. If you feel it you will exude it. Know where you stand so the rest of the world sees where you are. . . . Kristen M. "Ode to Joy" is an ode written in the summer of 1785 by German poet, playwright, and historian Friedrich Schiller and published the following year in Thalia. A slightly revised version appeared in 1808, changing two lines of the first and omitting the last stanza. "Ode to Joy" is best known for its use by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final (fourth) movement of his Ninth Symphony, completed in 1824. Beethoven's text is not based entirely on Schiller's poem, and it introduces a few new sections. His tune (but not Schiller's words) was adopted as the "Anthem of Europe" by the Council of Europe in 1972 and subsequently by the European Union. Rhodesia's national anthem from 1974 until 1979, "Rise, O Voices of Rhodesia", used the tune of "Ode to Joy". SOURCE: Wikipedia. Thanks for listening.

Hosts Dave Bossert and Aljon Go talk about the latest pop-culture and film news as well as remember Roy E. Disney. Roy E. Disney (January 10, 1930 – December 16, 2009) was the longtime senior executive for the Walt Disney Company, which was founded by his father, Roy O. Disney, and his uncle, Walt Disney. At the time of his death, he held more than 16 million shares (about 1% of the company), and served as a consultant for the company, as director emeritus for the board of directors.* As the last member of the Disney family to be actively involved in the company, Disney was often compared to his uncle and father. When his pool vacuum cleaner's bearings failed, a Florida man didn't bolt to Amazon to order an expensive replacement vacuum (in the slight chance it was in stock). Instead, he found open source code for a similar bearing, modified it, and then programmed his home 3D printer to make a new bearing. With the cost of operating the 3D printer at 75 watts per hour, and filament mere cents, and after a few trials, the pool vacuum was back in service for $3 of parts and power. IN THIS EPISODE. In this episode, Doc interviews flyingRich to learn about the arrival of 3D home printing as more than a novelty. In addition, flyingRich will talk about the positive impact of 3D printing in crisis situations, such as PPE items and ventilator parts as well as 3D printed mesh network solutions for antennas used in emergency communication conditions. ABOUT FLYINGRICH. flyingRich (spelled with lowercase f) has been doing tech podcasts for more than ten years (His YouTube channel is titled flyingRich). Rich is an advocate of open source software solutions. He is a regular host on "The Mini PC Show" on the PodNutz network that focuses on single board computing like the Raspberry Pi. Professionally he is a cloud engineer. Being a 3D printing enthusiast he combines the love of tech, open source & cloud computing. Rich is also a 1,000 hour instrument rated pilot. 3D HOME PRINTING NO LONGER A NOVELTY. Rich showed off a number of items that he had 3D printed, including a stand for his monitor and a specialized device to bend pipe. In fact, through open source computing and networking, Rich has worked with people across the world to design, refine, and 3D print parts for a range of applications. While the public might perceive home 3D printing as centered on toys, flutes, and trinkets, the reality is that actual houses are being 3D printed, hard-to-configure replacement parts for old homes, automotive parts, and even food. THINGIVERSE. Rich noted that much sharing exists within the 3D printing community. In particular, THINGIVERSE is a website dedicated to the sharing of user-created digital design files. “Providing primary free, open-source hardware designs licensed under the GNU General Public License or Creative Commons licenses, the site allows contributors to select a user license type for the designs that they share (Source: Wikipedia). 3D PRINTING IN DISASTERS. The December 2021 wildfire that destroyed 1000 homes in Boulder County or the tornado that ripped apart towns in the Kentucky region caused massive damage with little warning. How might mobile 3D printing units be deployed and benefit these areas? Rich and Doc explored this question. Rich felt that 3D printers could build many of the parts needed for geodesic domes, which are lattice shell structures. These are both strong and relatively easy to configure. They could provide shelter to people and animals or staging of assets. Doc felt that portable 3D printing units might yield much relief to hurricane stricken areas, such as the Bahamas. On a September 11, 2019 show, Doc interviewed German Parodi, a disability rights advocate. In that interview, Parodi explained that people (in the Bahamas) in need of catheters, for example, were unable to obtain them as large planes were unable to land at the damaged airport and it was time-consuming and red-tape-filled to have pallets broken into smaller shipments. A 3D printer might have offered other options in that scenario. FOLLOW DR. PERRODIN: Twitter @SafetyPhD and subscribe to The Safety Doc YouTube channel & Apple Podcasts. The triad can be defined as a chord made up of three tones (notes) called chord factors. They make up the diatonic scale. A D-major triad (aka chord) is made up of the notes D, F-sharp, and A. Add a major third above the major triad i.e., the root chord. The new note (the letter C) is the major seventh of the chord. It lies at the interval of a major seventh above the root. What is an interval in music? What is an Interval in Music? An interval in music is defined as a distance in pitch between any two notes. The larger the interval between two notes, then the greater the difference in pitch between the notes. And vice versa, the smaller the interval between two notes then the smaller the pitch between the notes. SOURCE: Wikipedia

"Jingle Bell Rock" is an American popular Christmas song first released by Bobby Helms in 1957. It has received frequent airplay in the United States during every Christmas season since then. "Jingle Bell Rock" was composed by Joseph Carleton Beal (1900–1967) and James Ross Boothe (1917–1976), although both Helms and session guitarist on the song Hank Garland disputed this (see Authorship controversy section below). Beal was a Massachusetts-born public relations professional and longtime resident of South Ocean Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Boothe was an American writer in the advertising business. What is PENIS ENLARGEMENT? What does PENIS ENLARGEMENT mean? PENIS ENLARGEMENT meaning - PENIS ENLARGEMENT definition - PENIS ENLARGEMENT explanation.Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... license.SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6Uu...Penis enlargement, sometimes called male enhancement, refers to an assortment of techniques intended to increase the girth, length, or erectile rigidity of the human penis.Procedures range from manual exercises to stretching devices and surgical procedures, with reports of successes and failures around the world. While some techniques are known to be outright hoaxes, others can produce some measure of success. Often, in the advertising of fraudulent products, the distinction between temporary enlargement, i.e. erection, and permanent enlargement is deliberately muddied. The opposite procedure is penis reduction.Little legitimate scientific research has been done specifically on the subject of non-surgical penile enlargement; existing claims of significant and permanent enlargement are generally anecdotal, unverified by objective research, and can be biased by the interests and emotions of the source. At present, there is no proof of any non-surgical technique that permanently increases either the thickness or length of a normal penis. Some general research has been done regarding the safety and efficacy (or lack thereof) of the ingredients of various pharmaceutical or quasi-pharmaceutical preparations, but thus far, nothing has emerged to cause mainstream medicine to adopt any of them. There are also risks inherent in some of the more invasive procedures, with negative outcomes ranging from the tearing of skin and scarring, to permanent loss of sexual function. Due to the speculative nature of any hope for "improvement", social controversy due to the sexual nature of the topic, and the many known cases of permanent injury involved in the endeavor, many medical professionals are sceptical of the subject, and tend to avoid work in this field.Much of the marketing of commercial penis-enlarging treatments is based on unproven assertions that a larger penis enhances sexual prowess and general attractiveness to potential mates. Enlargement of a normal penis is distinguished from seeking relief from the recognized medical condition of micropenis, where surgery to increase the organ's size is sometimes needed for urinary or sexual purposes. Anxiety about the size of one's penis may be (in extreme cases) a psychological/psychiatric condition best dealt with by qualified medical practitioners. There are several surgical treatments, all carrying a risk of significant complications. The Second International Consultation on Sexual Dysfunctions concluded,Most men will not wish to proceed to surgery when properly informed of the likely outcome and risks of complications.Procedures by unlicensed surgeons can lead to serious complications.Penis enlargement pills, patches, and ointments are commonly offered over the Internet. While some products contain harmless ingredients, many are entirely untested for safety and side effects, and none of these products has been demonstrated effective.A variety of physical therapy techniques have been used in an attempt to enlarge the human penis. Generally, the techniques involve stretching, elongation by the use of small weights, or increasing the bloodflow and/or blood pressure in the penis. There is also significant overlap between techniques intended to enlarge the penis and techniques intended to achieve other, related objectives, such as reversing impotence, extending the duration of erections, or enhancing sexual climax.A penis pump is a cylinder that is fitted over the penis, with a manual or motorized pump to create a partial vacuum around the penis, engorging it as blood is drawn in. A variety of penis pump designs have been adopted by penis pump manufacturers. As vacuum increases, the pressure within the blood vessels of the penis increases as well; excessive vacuum causes vascular damage. Penis pumps may be used to temporarily overcome symptoms of impotence, but do not cure the condition: a tourniquet-like ring must be applied to keep the blood trapped within the penis, otherwise the erection will immediately subside. Pumps may work even if there is nerve or vascular damage preventing a natural erection, but excessive or prolonged use (hours) will cause permanent harm as over-enthusiastic pumping can burst blood vessels and form blisters.....L'amour est un mystère pour ceux qui le vivent, un mystère pour ceux qui le regardent. Nous constatons, mais nous ne comprenons pas. Pourquoi ? The Tao Te Ching has a long and complex textual history. Known versions and commentaries date back two millennia, including ancient bamboo, silk, and paper manuscripts discovered in the twentieth century. he Tao Te Ching is a short text of around 5,000 Chinese characters in 81 brief chapters or sections (章). There is some evidence that the chapter divisions were later additions—for commentary, or as aids to rote memorization—and that the original text was more fluidly organized. It has two parts, the Tao Ching (道經; chapters 1–37) and the Te Ching (德經; chapters 38–81), which may have been edited together into the received text, possibly reversed from an original Te Tao Ching. The written style is laconic, has few grammatical particles, and encourages varied, contradictory interpretations. The ideas are singular; the style poetic. The rhetorical style combines two major strategies: short, declarative statements and intentional contradictions. The first of these strategies creates memorable phrases, while the second forces the reader to reconcile supposed contradictions.[19] Source: Wikipedia
I'm feeling down and I do appreciate you being round. Help me get my feet back on the ground. Won't you please help me? When I was younger, so much younger than today I never needed anybody's help in any way But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (but now these days are gone) (And now I find) now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being 'round Help me get my feet back on the ground Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, ooh Source: LyricFind John Lennon has described this time of his life as his "fat Elvis period." In a 1971 interview with Rolling Stone, Lennon said this is one of his favorite Beatles records, because, "I meant it - it's real." He added: "The lyric is as good now as it was then. It is no different, and it makes me feel secure to know that I was that aware of myself then. It was just me singing 'Help' and I meant it." Paul McCartney helped Lennon write the song, but did not realize it was actually Lennon calling for help until years later. The hit song was released in 1965. John Lennon played rhythm guitar on this track using a 12-string acoustic. The song runs just 2:18, but packs in 267 words, making it one of the most lyrically dense hits of the era. It starts and ends on a vocal, and there are two vocal lines running throughout the song, as John Lennon sings lead while George Harrison and Paul McCartney do backgrounds, singing some of the same phrases either before or after Lennon. There are only a few seconds in the song where somebody isn't singing. Source: Song Facts In ensembles or bands playing within the acoustic, country, blues, rock or metal genres (among others), a guitarist playing the rhythm part of a composition plays the role of supporting the melodic lines and improvised solos played on the lead instrument or instruments, be they strings, wind, brass, keyboard or even percussion instruments, or simply the human voice, in the sense of playing steadily throughout the piece, whereas lead instruments and singers switch between carrying the main or countermelody and falling silent. In big band music, the guitarist is considered part of the rhythm section, alongside bass and drums. In some musical situations, such as a solo singer-guitarist, the guitar accompaniment provides all the rhythmic drive; in large ensembles it may be only a small part (perhaps one element in a polyrhythm). Likewise, rhythm guitar can supply all of the harmonic input to a singer-guitarist or small band, but in ensembles that have other harmony instruments (such as keyboards) or vocal harmonists, its harmonic input will be less important. It's all about the love. Not making this up. A former employer would say this to me signaling it was time to get back to work. It worked. He had a gift, many in fact, that endeared him to my heart. Most of all it was his way of saying stop talking. What is a popular term of endearment? These terms of endearment run the gamut from classic to cute to bizarre. Pet names like “sweetheart” and “honey” have been around for hundreds of years (since the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, respectively), while newcomer “bae” is a twenty-first-century invention. Affectionate Nicknames For Your Wife Sweetie honey pie. My dear. Apple of my eye. My one and only. Nutter butter. Darling. Sweetheart. Pumpkin. For a unique nickname for your guy or guy friend that is still cute, check out these ideas below. Ace. Amigo. Baby Brother. Big Boy. Biggie. Blue Eyes. Braddah. Source: Wikipedia. Interestingly, whenever I call someone "big boy" they are under the age of ten. People who are divorced may recall never having a pet name for their spouse. What are your favorite pet names? Thanks for listening.

Drummer Travis Barker joins Mike this week! Blink-182 rehearsals, work ethic and passion for music, Travis' love for hip-hop and his career into that after Blink- 182 and The Transplants broke up. The benefit gig with Goldfinger, Mike and Travis. He also talks about recording with Matt Skiba after Tom Delonge's exit. Business, Crossroads Restaurant in LA, family life with his kids, MTV reality show, how surviving a plane crash changed his life perspective, drug abuse, relationships and tons more! MHH153- Travis was on his way home from Blink 182 rehearsals when I got a chance to catch up with him on the phone. We talked about a ton of topics. We got into his day to day routines to bigger sweeping life changes and that includes some behind the scenes talk on making the new Blink 182 album with record producer and Goldfinger front man, John Feldmann. They just released the first single off the album called, Bored to Death. It sounds really good and I love how open the verses are. Just go to Blink182.com to check it out. If the photos below confuse you and you are wondering what this band is with Travis, Feldy, Frank (Feeble) and yours truly is. It was called Travis Barker and the Res-Erections (hehe). A one off cover band throwing down with some 80's and 90's music. A loose set of fun cover songs punked up and a few Goldfinger jams too. We got together for a benefit show to raise funds for the school that Travis' kids attend. It was a really fun night and rad times were had by all. The audience saw something pretty insane that night! And yes, sometimes you just get a phone call from a friend asking for a favor and you find yourself on a non-stop flight to Los Angeles to lay down some low end. I love this life and not really knowing what's gonna happen all the time is part of what makes it so exciting. Scary too but if you aren't a little afraid of the possibilities then maybe you aren't reaching outside your comfort zone enough. Mike and Travis will talk why cruise ships are better than airplanes, killer remixes, and the new Blink-182 record. Forget Meet the Barkers you're about to see a whole new side of Travis as he reveals the pleasures and the pain that shaped him into a music icon. Did we mention tune-in? Tune-in and tell your friends! Find him on Twitter: @travisbarker and @blink182.
