The two explored the busy stalls of Ameya Yokocho, immersing themselves in the eclectic mix of Japanese and foreign cultures swirling around them. En: Among the crowd, they spotted a slim, long-haired man. Having just arrived from America, the two thought he resembled the rockstar Johnny Viper. "There he is, Haruto. It's Johnny Viper! Let's get his autograph!" Yuki exclaimed in excitement.Ja: ハルトは疑ったが、ユキの熱意に押され、二人は駆けていきました。彼らが男に接近すると、彼の顔がジョニーとは少し違うことに気づきました。しかし、ユキは紙を出してサインを求めました。En: Haruto had doubts, but pushed by Yuki's enthusiasm, the two hurried over. As they approached the man, they realized his face was slightly different from Johnny's. However, Yuki pulled out a piece of paper and asked for his autograph. En: The man chuckled as he signed it. "Hey, I'm just an office worker. You guys must have mistaken me for someone else," he explained in Japanese. Nevertheless, Haruto and Yuki believed he was behaving like a celebrity, deceiving fans. Fully satisfied, they thanked him and walked away.Ja: このサインは、ユキとハルトにとって最高の東京旅行の思い出になりました。そしてその男の一言は彼らに深い印象を残し、事実がどうであれ、ちょっとした楽しみと冒険が旅の一部であるということを教えてくれました。En: That autograph became the highlight memory of Yuki and Haruto's Tokyo trip. Takeaways Decarbonizing the existing fleet is crucial as most vehicles on the road are not new vehicles. Understanding the intersection of regulations and technologies is key to navigating the complexity of the industry. Accounting for the entire lifecycle of vehicles, including production and disposal, is necessary for effective decarbonization. Incentivizing the use of renewable fuels requires policy changes and the development of carbon markets. Transitioning to a smaller organization can provide opportunities for learning and growth, but also comes with its own challenges. Leverage previous experience and knowledge when starting a new venture. Building a sustainable business requires a focus on value proposition, product definition, and product management. Hello Postpartum

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 7, 2022 42:06

A Board-Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, AyurDoula, and CMT shares her insight on what a profoundly nourishing and healing postpartum period looks like from an Ayurvedic standpoint. You may be surprised to learn it's more than your food.     Ameya Duprey of Shakti Care Ameya Duprey is a Board Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, AyurDoula, CMT & Course Creator. She helps postpartum mamas fully heal from birth so you can stop feeling exhausted all the time! She offers individualized care based on your unique constitution and needs. She can help you achieve proper health and balance through simple methods such as a specialized Ayurvedic diet, lifestyle, massage, herbs, and more. A closer look at postpartum Ayurvedic treatment Ayurvedic is defined as the science of life. Pulled from centuries of Indian tradition, it's a practice that focuses on the five elements of the body; space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements are known as doshas. They play a natural role that centers on a person's natural environment. Understanding the ayurvedic way of living in the world, depending on your dosha, helps one maintain the body's balance, health, and recovery during postpartum and beyond. Which dosha is high during postpartum? Because giving birth is such a taxing and trying experience, it drains the body of many of its natural fluids, leaving the body dry and undernourished. This experience is known as an imbalance of the Vata (air and ether), and all moms, no matter how they deliver, experience this imbalance after giving birth. The body also uses a lot of heat during birth, leaving the body in a cold state during postpartum—a mother in postpartum benefits from finding ways to rejuvenate and revitalize her bodies life force. The aim of Ayurvedic postpartum treatment Through ayurvedic treatment in postpartum, the aim is to understand and nourish the changes that your body has experienced. Becoming a mother hits the reset button on our lives and our bodies. Knowing your life will never be the same after birth can be hard to process for many of us. But looking at it from a different angle, the first 45 days could determine the next 45 years of your life. Ayurvedic looks at postpartum as an opportunity to start fresh, to come to the crossroads, and practice new ways to support your new self and, more importantly, your new life.   In general, most people share the same imbalances after birth. So the same basics apply to those in postpartum recovery.   Ayurvedic-friendly postpartum recovery foods The types of food that benefit mothers in postpartum focus on rejuvenation. There are five tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent. The "S tastes" - sweet, sour, and salty - are the ones that will benefit recovering mothers most in postpartum by rebuilding tissue and rejuvenating the body, and oily foods, such as soups, help level your digestion. You also want to focus on foods that warm the body. Well-cooked and seasoned help replenish the heat lost from childbirth. And lastly, according to Ayurvedic practices, avoid eating frozen or canned foods. These foods are stripped of their freshness and depleted of their natural life force. The food becomes you after it is eaten, so the fresher the food, the more your body will benefit from all it offers.     Topics covered What is Ayurvedic | 1:50 How to practice ayurvedic healing in postpartum | 5:57 Supporting your diet | 8:19 Other ways to support postpartum recovery | 15:58 Mama's Menu cookbook | 32:57 The final question | 37:58     Additional resources Want to learn more from Ameya about Ayurvedic postpartum healing? In today's episode, I speak with Ameya Duprey (@ShaktiCare), board certified Ayurvedic practitioner, massage therapist and Ayurvedic postpartum doula about 5 key pillars of Ayurvedic wisdom ("eat, heat, sleep, love, and repeat") that can guide postpartum care that truly nurtures the birthing parent in the immediate aftermath of birth and for many years beyond. Ayurveda is a rich and complex holistic preventative medicine system originating in India over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda can promote recalibration in times of stress, transition, and imbalance, and there are specific recommendations and healing modalities that can be particularly beneficial in the postpartum period, regardless of how the birth unfolded and the birth parent's unique mental and physical constitution prior to pregnancy. Ayurvedic postpartum care is well beyond the scope of one episode, so we hone in on some concrete takeaways you can share with others and implement in your own life. As fatsos, health feels like the final frontier for all concern trolls. If Pallavi and Ameya got a dollar for every time they were told they would drop dead, they would probably have been able to start a hospital themselves. And that's the experience of every fat person. Which is appalling given how medical institutions are meant to be a safe space of care and knowledge. And so we bring you this episode that breaks all records of ranty episodes, where we talk about handling the world of healthcare.

Pallavi and Ameya have talked a lot about the problems that beset us all in this fatphobic world, and they've delved pretty deep into the dark and painful sides of our lives. Starting today, though, they want to focus a little more on how they've handled it. How did they find the ways to beat fatphobia, to find their own styles, to demand their right to take up space? What experiences have Pallavi and Ameya had that helped them stand up and take their place in the sun?

Once they figured out the goal of fat acceptance, Ameya and Pallavi began the long, strenuous and apparently infinite road to acceptance. This episode sees the fatsos talk about how they came to begin their journeys to self acceptance, what they do, how they feel about self work, and, most excitingly, an on-air argument!

If there's one thing Pallavi and Ameya have both learned making this podcast, it's the important of fat acceptance. But, as always, they have differing perspectives on how fat acceptance works. In this episode, join them as they talk about their experiences learning to accept themselves and the work they still need to do. Also: truly epic rant.
