In this episode of the show, Raj, Baldy and Stu look back at week 5 of IPL 2025, which saw Mumbai and RCB make their moves, CSK start looking to next season and New Zealand Cricket invest in Major League Cricket in the USA. We start this week with a check in about RCB. It's been a strange season for them so far - less hyped than previous years, struggles at home, but with a lot of the players in key positions all delivering on what's required. We talk about Virat Kohli's quietly impressive stats, Josh Hazlewood doing the business, Tim David's finishing, Krunal Pandya's key moments and whether it's time to load up on RCB stock before it is too late. From there, we move to Mumbai's charge up the table thanks to Rohit Sharma's return to form, Suryakumar Yadav's consistency, a bag for Trent Boult and a bowling attack that looks so much more complete now that it features Jasprit Bumrah. Then it's time to bounce around a few different topics - from the top 6 teams putting a gap between them and the rest, to left-handed openers like Priyansh Arya and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the contrasting fortunes of teams like the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. We round out the show with a discussion about New Zealand Cricket's investment in MLC in North America. Is international investment in franchise cricket a glimpse into the future of the game? How will it work in reality? Who could it benefit? Could we ever see something similar in the IPL? We'll be back in your feed again soon with more IPL coverage. Few anticipated India would lose a home Test series -- especially not to New Zealand, a team that has struggled on foreign soil since the World Test Championship began in 2019. A 0-3 scoreline added to the disbelief. New Zealand, brilliantly led by Tom Latham, exceeded expectations, outshining India in all facets of the game. The statistics are stark. Rohit Sharma, the captain, has managed just 133 runs in 10 innings, while former captain Virat Kohli has scored 192 runs in the same number of innings. Between them, they recorded only two fifties over five Tests at home during the 2024 season.Although India secured a victory against Bangladesh in a two-Test series, their subsequent series against New Zealand saw them falter dramatically, losing 0-3 in a manner that exposed their vulnerabilities for the first time in many years. Is it time to look beyond Rohit and Virat in Tests? What does a series loss of this magnitude tell about Rohit Sharma's captaincy and Gautam Gambhir's coaching credentials? Will India be able to bounce back in Australia?Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari reflect on the shocking loss that has hurt their egos and reputations.Tune in!Produced & Sound Mix By: Sachin Dwivedi
Welcome to a special Adelaide Film Festival round up discussion featuring myself, Virat Nehru, and Nadine Whitney. While we have known each other for years, the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival was our first opportunity to meet up in person, watch some films, and do what film critics do best: talk about them afterwards. The following discussion sees us traipse along a path of the highs and the lows of the Adelaide Film Festival, with each critic highlighting some of their favourite films for the festival, and some of the films that have left them wanting. Films discussed in the following episode include: The Correspondent, Emilia Perez, Lesbian Space Princess, Make It Look Real, Good One, The Wolves Always Come at Night, Anora, All We Imagine as Light, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, No Other Land, and more. There are few experiences which leave a mark on you and change how you experience the world, and yet, for me, the Adelaide Film Festival was one such experience. This is partly because of the festival itself, which provided such a wide array of cinematic, theatrical, and critical experiences that kept poking, prodding, and provoking immense thoughts, excitement, and bolstered my passion for cinema and the arts, but it's also partly because of the connection I have had with the following people you'll hear. Meeting my long time collaborator and friend Nadine was as wonderful as I'd hoped it would be, and getting to meet Virat, another person whose work I admire immensely was equally exciting. I hope you enjoy listening to the following discussion as much as I did recording it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Cricket is more than just a game for millions of fans; it's a passion, and the journey to victory is filled with intense preparation and determination. This episode provides an inside look at the mindset and strategies that helped Team India clinch the World Cup 2024 title. Dilip Sir opens up about the importance of fielding, an often underappreciated aspect of cricket that goes far beyond just catching the ball. He explains why even seasoned legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma continue to rely on their fielding coach to stay at the peak of their game. We delve into the unforgettable moment when Suryakumar Yadav made that iconic catch in the World Cup, a feat that was the result of countless hours of rigorous practice and unyielding mental toughness. Additionally, we discuss the delicate balance between hard work, talent, and the often-overlooked luck factor that can sometimes tip the scales in favor of one team over another. One of the most intriguing aspects of our conversation is how a single missed catch in a World Cup match can impact the morale of the entire team. Dilip Sir shares stories about the psychological resilience required to bounce back from such moments and how the team maintains its spirit. He also addresses why even cricket legends need coaching, emphasizing that continuous learning and adaptation are crucial in staying ahead in the game. Our discussion also takes us behind the scenes, exploring the dynamics within the Indian cricket team, the sophisticated fielding strategies employed during crucial moments, and what really happens in the dressing room during those high-stakes intervals between innings. Dilip Sir shares his journey from HCA to NCA, offering a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs he faced along the way, including his work with cricket stalwarts like Rahul Dravid and how he manages the expectations of working with superstars like Virat and Rohit. We also touch upon the innovations and technologies that are shaping the future of cricket. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Raj and Stu look back at the second Test between England and the West Indies, as well as Gautam Gambhir taking over as Indian men's team coach and England's clean sweep of the White Ferns. The first three days of the Trent Bridge Test were very competitive - the West Indies took the lead thanks to runs from Kavem Hodge, Alick Athanaze and Joshua Da Silva, but a Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir-inspired collapse helped England to a convincing win in the end. We talk about the impact of Ben Duckett at the top for the home side, Ollie Pope's freneticness, Bashir's ceiling and much more. After a 4-1 T20 series win in Zimbabwe, the Gautam Gambhir era is about to begin for India and there's plenty to discuss. SKY over Hardik as T20 captain? What role will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play going forward? And Washington Sundar not just back in the mix, but thriving? We round out the show with England's 8-0 domination of the White Ferns across the recent ODI and T20 series. Are there any positives at all for New Zealand? And can England make a run at the T20 World Cup title in Bangladesh in October? We'll be back again next week to wrap up the England v West Indies series, as well as any other news that catches our eyes. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Raj and Stu share some extra thoughts on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Final, plus the tournament as a whole, including pitches, the 20-team format & scheduling. We also look ahead to the upcoming Test series between England and the West Indies, and the first game in particular, which will be Jimmy Anderson's final Test. We start the show by getting Raj's thoughts on the final, since he missed our previous episode, and all wonder in hindsight why none of us predicted India as the champions before the tournament started. There's discussion about Axar Patel and Virat Kohli, India's team-first mentality, and of course praise for Jasprit Bumrah's special talents. As we move to the tournament overview, we share our thoughts on the pitches, whether we liked the 20-team format, how we might tweak the Super 8 phase and what we'd change about the scheduling and pre-tournament rankings going forward. In the second half of the show, we return to the white clothing, looking ahead to the West Indies' Test tour to England. We talk about new names in both squads, potential mixed messaging coming out of the BazBall camp and a few Jimmy Anderson thoughts as the realisation hits that we might be about to watch him for the final time. Unless something unexpected happens in the cricket world that we can't wait to talk about, we'll be back again after the conclusion of the first England v West Indies Test. Saturday, June 29, will be remembered for ages in Indian cricket history. It was an emotional moment for many who had witnessed heartbreak after heartbreak over the last decade. Rohit Sharma's India ended an 11-year wait for the International Cricket Council (ICC title) title, beating South Africa in one of the most thrilling finals in the history of the men's T20 World Cup. Rohit led from the front throughout the campaign. Virat Kohli stepped up when it mattered the most—in the final. Head coach Rahul Dravid signed off on a high, singing a redemption story in the Caribbean. Every decision that the team management and selectors made regarding the T20 World Cup paid off, resulting in India winning their second T20 World Cup crown. Being Rohit, Dravid, and Kohli has not been easy in the last 3-4 years. Rohit Sharma was gutted and heartbroken after the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. An entire nation felt the pain. Dravid's credentials as a T20I coach were questioned in 2022. Kohli's place in the World Cup squad was questioned when he returned to the T20I side in January. All of them proved their naysayers wrong. Rohit and Kohli signed off from T20Is at the right time. Dravid ended his coaching stint on a high. There were other heroes as well. Jasprit Bumrah stood out from the rest and showed why he is one of the best in the world. Arshdeep Singh stepped up and created a record performance that will be remembered for the ages. Axar Patel emerged as India's new all-round hero. Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with crucial contributions. It was a complete team effort. What next for India? Will Gautam Gambhir take over? Should Hardik Pandya replace Rohit Sharma as the T20I captain? Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar and Alan Jose John celebrate India's T20 World Cup triumph and issue an unconditional apology. Tune in! Produced and Mixed By Sachin Dwivedi
In this episode of the show, we look back at the latest four games of the Super 8 stage at the Men's T20 World Cup, which saw India all but book a semi-final berth while all other sides fight for their tournament lives. We start the show by discussing Afghanistan's historic win against Australia. Captain Cummins got another hat trick, but it was first Gurbaz and Ibrahim and then Gulbadin who flexed their muscle and secured a famous victory. Was it a mistake to leave out Mitchell Starc? And could this win propel Afghanistan all the way to the title? From there we move to India's game against Bangladesh, which resulted in a fairly comfortable win and India putting one foot in the next round. There were positive signs for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shivam Dube, wickets for Kuldeep Yadav and even positives for Bangladesh to take from the performance of Rishad Hossain throughout this tournament. Third up in our match review was South Africa's win against England. Quinton de Kock looked like he was batting on a different pitch than everyone else, but it was a game that went right down to the wire and looked like it could go either way when Ottniel Baartman was bowling full tosses and Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook were hitting them over the rope. In the fourth and final game covered, we discuss the impact of the West Indies' big win against the USA, and how it has set up a potential knockout game against South Africa in the final round of the Super 8. There's also praise for both Shai Hope and Darren Sammy as this comprehensive victory rounds out the show. We are planning to record regularly throughout the next phases of the tournament, so expect to be in your feed every few days through to the final match - our next show will be a preview of the semi-finals, on Tuesday night NZ time. We are living in Virat Kohli's world. The RCB star first hit out the GT bowlers for a match-winning unbeaten 70 and then tore into critics of his strike rate and his often-questioned ability to play against spinners in the middle overs. Kohli's remarks have been met with contrasting reactions. While a few lauded Kohli for giving it back, others have questioned the need to go after critics after having had issues while facing spin in the past. Well, what truly matters is that Virat Kohli is batting at his best just ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2024. If India has to end the ICC title drought, the form of Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be key. After 9 matches in the IPL 2024, Sanju Samson ranks 4th in the Orange Cap list. Samson has the highest strike rate among the top 5 batters in the league and has also led his team to 8 wins out of 9 matches. What more will Samson need to do to get into the T20 World Cup 2024 squad? The Rajasthan captain has been consistently ignored by the selection panel for the ICC tournaments, and this year, he is in contention with a resurgent Pant and a wily KL Rahul, who has adapted to the modern template of T20 batting. Will Samson make it to the side? If yes, who sits out, and how does the Playing XI look for India in the tournament set to be hosted jointly by the USA and West Indies? Saurabh Kumar, Alan John, and Kingshuk Kusari discuss Virat Kohli's and Sanju Samson's roles in the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast. Produced and Mixed by Sachin Dwivedi

Rohit Sharma's return to T20I cricket has been underwhelming, but it's quite clear that the team management and selectors have zeroed in on the senior campaigner to lead India at the T20 World Cup. There's no doubting Sharma's class and a couple of good knocks in the IPL might be enough for him to book his ticket to the USA and the West Indies. On the other hand, Virat Kohli, like he always does, has stirred up debates with his first outing in T20I cricket in 14 months. The former captain, who is known for being an accumulator and an anchor, came out all guns firing in Indore against Afghanistan. Virat Kohli slog-sweep a spinner. Yes, you read that right. But, is that the Virat that India needs? Does this version of the star batter suit the team's needs? Would it not be wise for India to have the 'anchor' on what is expected to be slow pitches in the West Indies in the T20 World Cup?And have India found a proper back-up option for Hardik Pandya? Is it only a back-up or a replacement option? Shivam Dube is busy requesting MS Dhoni to give him a couple of overs for CSK in IPL 2024. Will 'Mahi Bhai' listen? India need Dube to sharpen his bowling skills ahead of the World Cup?What about Pakistan? The change in captaincy and the change in team management hasn't brought the desired results. Was it a witch hunt against Babar during the ODI World Cup? Is Shaheen Afridi the right man to lead Pakistan in the T20 World Cup?Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar and Alan John, a Virat Kohli fanboy, discuss the learnings and lessons from the T20I series against Afghanistan. Tune In!Produced and Sound Mix by Sachin Dwivedi
Would you “push the red button” for Class A cricket? Each to their own, which is essentially what Western Australia said following Matthew Renshaw's conspiracy selection last week. Kim Hughes felt particularly sick, poor bloke. Steve Smith's going to open – it's trappings where trappings are needed. But can this team go bulk? The Australian family populace can – they're turning out in such numbers at the Bucket on Bonce League, where the top 4 is locked and Warner rode a helicopter. We assess Shaun Marsh's career. TLDR; my kingdom to render others' pigeons. Finch and SOK get their flowers. There's a genre-leading catch in the Super Smash, NZ dusts Pakistan, India does so Afghanistan, Virat does Novak. We look again at India v England, before #AskTGC ponders “prospective” women, unrequited interest, and Brian Lara. From Shami's fifers to Virat Kohli breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record, this podcast will make you revisit the last 45 days of the Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Amrit Mathur, who has served as an author, and manager of the Indian men's cricket team, shares his insights into the tournament's defining moments, from thrilling matches to record-breaking performances.
The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 is here, and the Top Order Podcast has you covered with regular game reviews and recaps. In this episode of the show, we discuss the Day 22 match between England and Sri Lanka. Both sides have performed well below their own expectations so far in the tournament - a must-win game for England and Sri Lanka in order to keep their semi-final chances alive. Who would seize the opportunity?Sadly for Binksy, not England. Three changes to reinstate the all-rounders missing from the last up defeat did nothing to resurrect the campaign of the defending champions. England were in the game in fits and starts, but it was Sri Lanka that took home the chocolates and welcomed the evergreen Angelo Mathews back to ODI cricket. Both sides still have plenty of work to do, and for England a lot relies on Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler finding some form.Binksy and Baldy turn their eye to the weekend and another exciting fixture list that could sort the wheat from the chaff in terms of the teams vying for semi-final spots. But the question remains - can anyone catch Virat, Rohit, Jasprit and this Indian side? We'll be back again tomorrow with more news and views, but until then please also take the time to give us a like, follow, share or subscribe on all our channels (@toporderpod on Twitter & Facebook, and @thetoporderpodcast on Instagram & YouTube) and a (5-Star!) review at your favourite podcast provider, or tell a friend to download.
