We also discussed the Bollywood documentary released by friend of the podcast Haroon Rashid, " Can Bollywood Survive?", as well as his interview with a post Gadar 2 Sunny Deol that continues to make waves. We round things off with a discussion of Raj and DK's GUNS AND GULAABS starring Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajkumar Rao, Adarsh Gourav, and others before launching into our main review: 1993's PARAMPARA. Directed by Yash Chopra, this was Saif Ali Khan's debut film and it took us to many unexpected, half-remembered places. Starring Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Raveena Tandon, Ashwini Bhave, Ramya Krishnan, and many others, this is the kind of Hindi movie that doesn't really get made any more. And maybe that's a good thing. Show Notes: 6.00 Can Bollywood Survive? Asim was a guest on the BBC's Asian Network. This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we're discussing Sriram Raghavan's debut feature 'Ek Hasina Thi' from 2004. Joining Abbas and Urjita for the episode is cinema enthusiast and Instagram influencer Karan Mirchandani. Topics discussed include: Urmila Matondkar's brilliant portrayals of 'on-the-edge' characters, Saif Ali Khan's dark roles and how he flourishes in them, the influence of Ram Gopal Varma on the film, the completely bonkers ending, and a lot of underwear endorsement talk. Vikram Vedha, the Hindi-language remake of directors Pushkar and Gayatri's Tamil-language original, pretends to be smarter than it actually is. And what it is is a loud, nonsensical actioner that has more in common with the KGF films than Heat. While Hrithik Roshan is having fun as the antihero Vedha, Saif Ali Khan is too bland as his foil, the murderous cop Vikram. We discuss the film's complicated storytelling, the jarring tonal shifts, and complete lack of tension. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Does love age well? That's a deep question we try to ponder over on this week's episode of 'Has It Aged Well?'. The film we're discussing is Imtiaz Ali's 2009 release 'Love Aaj Kal' (The OG one not that remake we wish didn't exist). Joining Abbas and Urjita is filmmaker and screenwriter Garima Pura who was a part of the Oscar winning Netflix short 'The Elephant Whisperers'. Topics discussed include: Our love-hate relationship with Imtiaz Ali, Deepika's growth as an actor, Vir Das being cast as a glorified extra, our reflections on traditional love vs. new love, how this film stacks up against 'Jab We Met' and more. Check out Garima's work here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/garimapura/ Watch 'The Elephant Whisperer's on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/81312835 Follow Abbas here: https://www.instagram.com/abbasmomin88/ You can watch Urjita's stand up video here: https://youtu.be/1_LzXSZk5csFor more fun pop culture stuff from the IVM team subscribe to the IVM Pop feed and also check out our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@IVMPop See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

IndieWire Senior TV Writer Proma Khosla joined me for this week's Yellowjackets recap for Season 2 Episode 6: Qui. We enhanced our vocabularies, fangirled over Lisa, the 14th Gilly, and Sophie Nelisse's acting, decided that Akilah makes a much better plastic surgeon than OB/GYN, and indulged in the usual obsessive theorizing. Why aren't they eating Ben yet? And why have we not yet seen petite Christina Ricci punching someone with brass knuckles yet?? Proma Khosla is a Senior TV Writer based in New York City, where she covers all things TV and streaming. She is IndieWire's resident Marvel and Star Wars correspondent ( “Ms. Marvel” and “Andor” supremacy!), and a tireless advocate of a little show called “Yellowjackets.” She strives to cover everything with equal expertise and detail, whether it's the latest wave of Mindy Kaling discourse or the chaotic life choices of characters on “Emily in Paris” or just shoehorning a ”Lost” reference into any kind of article. Before IndieWire, Proma was a Senior TV Reporter at Mashable, where she started her ongoing coverage of South Asian representation in Hollywood (especially when it comes to dance). Her work has also appeared in Vanity Fair, Teen Vogue, Decider, Glamour, and Brown Girl Magazine. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Communications, Proma worked on film sets including the horror-indie “It Follows” and with Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. In 2017 she launched Lion Party Films, where she produces stories by and for the South Asian diaspora with co-founder Raashi Desai. This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' Abbas and Urjita are joined by stand up comedian Raunaq Rajani to discuss a cult hit from the 2000's 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein'. Urjita strangles her inner feminist to defend the movie while Raunaq goes on a Vrijesh Hirjee fanboy trip and Abbas asks whether you'd be willing to eat meat as a hardcore vegetarian for the girl you love. Other topics covered include: why the early 2000's were obsessed with music stores, whether this is the best worst case of girl falling for 'bad boy', why Said is shirtless in Hiranandani, and please do not miss Urjita's fantastic rendition of Maddy's theme song. This week on ‘Has It Aged Well?' we're taking a trip to peak 90s with comedian and podcaster Antariksh Takkar aka Silverie by discussing ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari'. As the trio tries to decipher this buddy cop action comedy, Antariksh sheds light on the film's association with his younger days and Abbas and Urjita try to deal with the more problematic aspects of it. Topics discussed include: Secret villain's lairs, Mukesh Khanna dying in every film, problematic love angles, unnecessary double roles, Akshay-Saif displaying more chemistry with each other than their heroines, the Hollywood film this film lifted its plot from and why characters make illogical decisions at crucial moments. Plus since Antariksh hosts the podcast ‘Just a Filmy Game Show' on IVM Pop we reversed roles and put forth some question to him regarding this film. Listen in to find out how he fared.
