ABOUT THE BOOK - THE TANTALIZING TALE OF GRACE MINNAUGH Eleven-year-old Grace Minnaugh is not a fan of big changes. She's miserable during her first weeks in the seaside town of La Toya, sulking like a spoiled brat. Her family embraces the California lifestyle and Grace decides to embrace the seductive beauty of the sea. One fateful morning, while taking a predawn swim, she is caught in a thunderstorm. Without the ocean skills to survive, she's sucked below the surface, convinced she will drown. Instead, a new life begins. Gills rip open from behind her ears and her legs fuse together to form a fishtail. Grace Minnaugh is a mermaid, and a gorgeous one at that. On land, Grace is still the same walking, talking social misfit she's always been. But in the salty sea, she's an underwater marvel. Grace decides not to tell a soul about her flip-floppy double life, but things get complicated when Grace befriends Alfie DeCosta, a kid who's obsessed with finding an elusive shipwreck off the coast of La Toya. Grace knows exactly where the shipwreck is. But she can't tell Alfie about it, or can she? ABOUT THE AUTHOR As a young girl, Alice Kaltman longed to be a mermaid. Her idol sat demurely on the Chicken of the Sea tuna fish cans. She peeled labels off to save the image. To this day, Alice is most at home when upside down and underwater. She has been swimming her entire life and surfing for the better part of adulthood. It's no surprise her two novels are totally ocean-centric. "The Tantalizing Tale of Grace Minnaugh" is about a mermaid, and "Wavehouse" is about a surfer. Her short fiction (for adults) takes place on land, sea, and air. She's thrilled that "Staggerwing", a collection of her favorites, is available here Amazon and everywhere else books are sold.
This episode stars the glorious Alice Kaltman (The Tantalizing Tale of Grace Minnaugh, Wavehouse, Staggerwing). It was recorded over the Skype between the This Podcast Will Change Your Life home studio in Chicago, IL (as everything will be now, for the foreseeable future, and possibly forever) and Kaltman's Brooklyn home (though I do like to imagaine it was Kaltman's Montauk surf compound) in April 2020.
Paul Evans, we salute you! What a great time we had on this episode of The DubaiLife Podcast! Paul's story has the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster for sure! It is a tremendous story of incredible highs and at times unfathomable lows! But he's here now and has put his stamp on "DubaiLife" with brands such as Asia Aisa, Q43, Wavehouse, Karma Cafe, Lock Stock & Barrel and STK Downtown! From early setbacks with dyslexia and bullying to finding big success in the fast-paced GE Sales arena! Paul set off for Egypt and hit the party life hard. All of this was shortlived as after 18 months of non-stop partying he found himself with acute pancreatitis and in a coma for 77 days. The story surrounding his illness and the coma is a podcast episode in itself! The real change in Paul's life was when he woke up from this coma. This was the inspiration behind the name of his record selling book "When I Woke Up" After a long recovery, Paul went back to Egypt and grew his business. His company transforming the Egyptian nightlife scene until another set back came in the form of the Arab Spring and the Egyptian Revolution. It was at this point that Paul with a young family ended up in Dubai and the rest is history! We strongly recommend that you read the book When I Woke Up! you can find more information on the website www.whenIwokeup.com You can also follow Paul on Instagram @Pauljohnevs
