Have you been rethinking your career after becoming a mum? Do you want to explore what else could be out there for you? For Steph Jacobs, the transition to motherhood was a real turning point in her career… and after having two sons of her own, she became fascinated by the world of early childhood. It was a big leap from her previous career, working in HR, but the more she explored, the more her interest grew. Steph ended up retraining while her youngest was still in preschool and returned to work in 2018, as an early childhood educator. She's since gone on to discover a deep passion for working with neurodivergent children and has recently taken a new role in the early intervention space. In this episode, Steph talks about the steps she took to navigate her career transition and what she's learned about the career change process that could help other women. If you're rethinking your career or interested in exploring the early childhood sector, you'll love this conversation. In this episode of The Play Therapy Podcast, I address the critical topic of working with children who have experienced sexual abuse or exhibit sexualized behaviors. Combining questions from listeners Monica and Anna, I delve into three key aspects: acknowledging and accepting your own discomfort, defining personal boundaries, and setting appropriate limits in the therapeutic setting. I discuss these topics through the lens of the child-centered approach, allowing children to naturally develop coping skills and self-regulation through play therapy, ultimately leading to positive results. I hope this episode gives you valuable insights into handling sensitive situations in child-centered play therapy. Bron and Jordan unpack working with kids. They chat
Thanks for joining me on our inaugural series of Counselor Chat! This is the place where we'll be talking about all the things that make the great work that you're doing as counselors even better because who doesn't want to learn new hacks to make life easier and our impact on kids even greater.Today's topic is working with kids who are experiencing undesired classroom behaviors and how you can help. How many times a day are you hearing, "they just aren't getting their work done" or "they can't sit still" or "if they blurt out one more time I am going to lose my mind!" I don't know about you but I hear this an awful lot. Really more so frequently than probably ever before.I don't know maybe teachers expect you to have a magic wand ready to cast a spell to have every problem disappear. I don't know about you but I certainly don't have this magic wand I mean it sounds pretty amazing, but it's just not something I have. I mean if they did have one I would be the first in line to snag one up, but really, it's just not something I have. What I can help with is creating a behavior chart or a check in and check out to try to help incentivize the desired behaviors which hopefully reduce the undesired ones.Resources talked about in this episode: Forced Choice Reward SurveyBehavior Reward Choice BoardsGrab the Show Notes: Counselingessentials.org/podcastJoin Perks Counseling Club Membership and get the lessons, small group and individual counseling materials you need. Are you trying to run your business while juggling kids? Let's be honest, it's a tough gig. But with support from like-minded mums in business, it can be a bit easier to manage the tough times, and the good times are all the more enjoyable. In this episode I've done things a bit different. Instead of recording my podcast in the office as I normally do, I've recorded it whilst playing outside with my kids. You know why? Because sometimes there is no separation between mum-life and business-life (no matter how hard we try!)I reached out to members in my Facebook group, Laptops & Lattes Community, and asked for their top tips for running their business while caring for kids. I've collected some of my favourite tips and shared them with you in the episode. And you'll hear from my son and daughter a few times throughout because we all know they like to have their say!If you'd like to join the Laptops & Lattes Facebook group visit: www.facebook.com/groups/laptopsandlattesMany thanks to these amazing mums in business for sharing their tips in the community:Emma Heuston, The Remote Expert, www.theremoteexpert.comDiandra Jones, The Admin Mama, www.theadminmama.comDayarne Smith, Hello Copy Co, www.dayarnesmith.com.auVicki Clothier, Resume Writers Australia and Clothier Careers, www.resumewritersaustralia.com.au and www.clothiercareers.comSteph Gobraiel, Virtual Associate Services, www.virtualassociateservices.com.auChelsea Miller, Breathe Skin Body Mind, www.breatheskinbodymind.comKim Baker, AppleBlossom Admin, www.appleblossomadmin.com.au
This fall, working parents with school-age kids will be facing some tough times as they try to balance working from home and partially home-schooling their kids. Many schools will either be going exclusively remote or a combination of online and socially distanced in-person classes. And things may change suddenly if COVID-19 cases spike, or if someone at the school tests positive. How can employers help their employees navigate these unpredictable times and, frankly, their potentially upended work schedules? Our panel of Conference Board experts (and parents), Gad Levanon, Vice President Labor Markets, Amy Abel, Vice President Human Capital, and Elizabeth Crofoot, Senior Economist Labor Markets, discuss the following topics: How many families in the US are affected by remote learning? What are the problems that working parents are facing? How are the most innovative companies helping workers balance their roles as employees and parents?
On this episode of the Beyond the Helmet we are joined by former NFL athlete and Clemson star, Ricky Sapp.Ricky had a stellar career at Clemson after being a highly touted prospect coming out of high school. It looks years of a mental battle to come to grips with he had a new love to pursue; working with children. Welcome back to the Beneath the Surface podcast. In this episode, Corey and Sean wax lyrical about fatherhood. Both are fathers of three (though Corey is a father to four if you count BOTE). Both are also businessmen and dedicated men of their craft. In this episode, they talk about that balance. They relive some of their best moments as working fathers, including some of the more infamous times they brought their kids to work. As always, there are some heartfelt moments and some hilariously absurd ones (like the time Sean's baby appeared on the cover of a Tenacious D album which ended up being banned from Wal-Mart). If you're a dad or a son or a daughter or even just a lover of #dadjokes, you'll find something to appreciate in this episode. So sit back and enjoy.Links from the Episode Find some photo inspo at SeanMurphyPhoto.com. Blast back to the past with this Tenacious D music video.Enjoy these 99 dad jokes from Bored Panda. Who's in the EpisodeLead Designer, Co-Founder, and CEO at BOTE, Corey Cooper is a licensed engineer hailing from Auburn University. Corey is the pioneer of the DarkRoom, assisting with the design of the machinery, concepting the layout and ultimately developing the workflow used in DarkRoom production. Corey's passion for this project is so strong that on any given day, regardless of how busy things are at BOTE, you will often find Corey working in the DarkRoom.Sean Murphy is the Director of Photography at BOTE and a world-renowned photographer based in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After spending most of his career based in Los Angeles, shooting for brands like Adidas, Red Bull, and Toyota, just to name a few, Sean moved back to the Redneck Riviera. You can find Sean capturing gritty America and spontaneous moments that translate into visually stunning photography. Sound Bites"We are lucky that our careers allow us to involve family because that's what BOTE is, a family. Recently we've been doing a lot more family focused content. As we get older, the value of family and being dads becomes more and more apparent, more and more valuable. The solo and aspirational stuff is cool, but at the end of the day, everyone can relate to family." – Corey Cooper, CEO and Co-Founder at BOTE “We had no option. We started the business about a year after he was born. I've always joked that BOTE was another one of my babies because they were at the same time. But you're kind of raising them together, the business and the kid. I didn't have an option.” – Corey Cooper, CEO and Co-Founder at BOTE

If you’re a parent you know that kids have this way of keeping you on your toes. At any given moment somebody needs a snack or a diaper change, or they’ve hurt themselves for the 100th time. In today’s bonus episode, I’m breaking down EXACTLY how to work from home with kids and giving my best tips for how I integrate my own kiddo into my work and business. Show Notes: http://www.lisamichaud.com/podcast/20
I have been working from home since 2005 both in a corporate environment and now with my own business. There were several years of growing pains, here are my tips for you to avoid those pains.
Planned, Prepped, and Productive: Real Food Cooking for Busy Moms
Schedules.I’m guessing you love them or hate ’em.I’m all about having consistent routines with my kiddos, but only recently have discovered the magic of scheduling.I was a skeptic for sure, and I had tried a lot of toddler scheduling techniques that just didn’t work.…and overall we were happy so I didn’t see why we should rock the boat.Creating Ease With A Flexible Block Schedule For Young Kids And ToddlersBut after my husband bought me a laminator for Christmas (nerd alert!!) I decided to try out some scheduling one more time,Let me tell you, this time I found a system that worked and it has been a total gamechanger. Why Block Schedules Work With Young ChildrenThere have been so many benefits to introducing a block schedule in our household. Heres my top 5 benefits:A flexible schedule helps all of the different personality types in our home work together better.Knowing what to expect makes transitions go much smootherA schedule can act like a built-in reward system.A flexible schedule helps me stop saying “just a minute” and actually play with my kidsA schedule keeps me on track in times of laziness or anxietyHow To Block Schedule With Small Kids And Toddlers.Let’s first define what a block schedule is, shall we?A block schedule (or time blocking) is basically the same as your high school class schedule. You set aside a dedicated chunk of time for certain tasks.I find that 90 minute blocks throughout the day work best for my small family. To block schedule I fill each block with 2-3 realistic tasks.I also try to split the fun activities up with the more mundane tasks that my kids are likely to resist so I have those built-in rewards throughout the day. There are 2 keys for making this work with younger children. 1. Pictures2. Making it low maintenance. With this laminated block schedule system, I don’t have to spend time on the computer every day adjusting as our life changes, and I don’t have to sift through a bunch of activities we’ve printed out to find the ones we do. We just sit down and write as a family.(another key to your kids cooperating is letting them help make the schedule).Maintaining this system takes me about 10 minutes a day, but it saves me so much more, and it’s honestly close to zero effort on my part because my 5 year old wants to “do the schedule” before we even eat breakfast. If you want to try my block schedule for free, you can download it below! Just hit the photo to open the link in a new tab and print it out. Then simply laminate it and start scheduling. If you don’t have a laminator, you can get things laminated at staples or other similar stores, but I found it was much more cost-effective to just buy one (and it’s seriously my favorite thing.)You could also just print out a stack and dispose of them every day.I hope this post has motivated you that even if you don’t think scheduling is for you, that you might try it out.
The whole family is around, you’ve been interrupted at least 1000 times today.. no focus, few things done or well.. Does this sound familiar?! In this episode.. we hear “The secret to successfully working from home!” In this Part 2, with Ondrej and Petra Koutsky, we talk about working and doing their projects with kids close by. (Ironically like many of us now!). They talk about how great and supportive people were about kids being there. Working often when they were sleeping. Video editing was a tag team reality. As well same for writing.Being in nature and having their home close by, unlike reality of Prague and urban reality.Saved time by not communicating with family and friends a lot. Also, not taking kids to various places. And, now busy agenda. Life was so much simpler. Now, they are inspired to do same back in Czech.Back home, Petra and Ondrej again did tag teamIng to get things done, together.Measuring happiness event in Czech senate event they organized all details and pieces for speakers etc. They also got a grant. And, as well they got a grant from ministry of culture. Thanks to Kuba Gotveld (spelling?)actor. Karel Janacek financed Petra and Ondrej’s journey. Gross national happiness. Scotland and Finnland etc! Czech and making it part of political agenda. How can we be happy in times of uncertainty, ironically. Postponed..(Amazing this was the topic well before Covid-19!)Whatever any of us can do to make things be better. Great.Maybe they will do an Online summit?? Get people together and keep momentum. Now, online gatherings and mass gatherings.. and partially simulate being face to face. How can we find the way?Virtual reality? What is different now? People now believe they have a right to be happy. Also, values. Happiness is a choice. Not, just about money.Freedom and. Relaxation without money.Internal work. Let’s find the way to show people it’s doable. They miss their experiences in US.**How are you working or getting things done with kids around?Share with us on Instagram! How would it look to give energyTo your own projects with kids close by?Here’s a free video to get you started!** Need help and sanity tips during Corona Virus? As a mixed martial artist, fighting was nothing new to Derek Pang. Competition, being physically at his peak, and always being ready for whatever was thrown at him, was just part of an elite athlete's life. But when a series of concussions followed by a traumatic brain injury left Derek in a coma almost 10 years ago, his fight took a fateful turn that changed everything. In this episode, Derek and I talk about dealing with traumatic events, what we can learn from them, how he rose above the scars his assailants left, how forgiveness was pivotal in his healing, yoga's role in this path back, and where he is right now with his new program, The Hero Project working with children in schools. Fred and Jon are back! After talking about a few funny happenstances with their own kids... they dive into the wonderful world of working with kids in community theater! (recorded 11/15)
Being a parent has been an enlightening experience for me. I do this thing where I like to observe being around other parents, and taking notice of how they are with their kids. Some I envy, and some I do not. But, one thing that is bound to happen, is a parent speaks to the child as if they are able to comprehend exactly what they did was wrong and how it offended the parent. I think as a parent, I am completely guilty for expecting my daughter to know how to express herself, even at the age where she can read full books. Play Therapy is not about giving the child a voice, but more so giving their voice an arena and a microphone. Episode 5 focuses on Play Therapy and how we use it to address issues with children. I lucked out that I got a “2 for 1” deal at Guiding Compass Counseling in Flower Mound, TX. Dr. Julie Ballinger & Dr. David Huffman share not only this office, but their passion for using Play Therapy in their practice.
