Short Stories for Kids: The Magical Podcast of Story Telling
Written by Simon ChadwickCome and follow more adventures on our animated TV show on Youtube!
This week's discussion is centered around a sandbar at Mermaid Point in Chatham County, NC. We discuss reports of mermaids who would travel to this location to wash the salt water from their hair.
Forget Ariel. Forget Splash. Forget the Starbucks logo. This week, Chris and Ed dive into the terrifying pre-Disney history of mermaids, from Greek sirens and Japanese ningyo to Mami Wata, Sedna, Christopher Columbus's “sightings,” P.T. Barnum's infamous Feejee Mermaid, and the fake Animal Planet documentary that got so convincing the U.S. government had to officially say: no, mermaids are not real.SHOW NOTESBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/scared-all-the-time--7084296/support.Get the latest episodes of our bonus show NEW FEAR UNLOCKED -- and a whole lot more! -- by supporting the show on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ScaredAllTheTime
In this episode of Revelations Podcast, Reagan Kramer welcomes back Amy Roper from Eyes on the Right for an in-depth discussion about the biblical significance of the sea, the "deep," and what Scripture reveals about the spiritual realm often referred to as the Marine Kingdom. Beginning in Genesis, Amy traces the theme of the waters throughout the Bible, exploring passages about the abyss (tehom), Sheol, Leviathan, Dagon, and Johah. Together, they examine how ancient cultures consistently worshiped water deities, how these themes appear throughout history and mythology, and why understanding the biblical worldview helps Christians discern spiritual deception without falling into fear. The conversation emphasizes that many biblical stories—including Jonah, Jesus calming the sea, and the miracles surrounding water—demonstrate Christ's complete authority over all creation and every spiritual power. The discussion also explores how marine symbolism appears in modern culture through entertainment, mythology, corporate imagery, financial language, and current conversations surrounding unexplained underwater phenomena. Reagan and Amy encourage listeners to search the Scriptures for themselves, test everything through the Holy Spirit, and develop biblical discernment. The key takeaway is that believers are engaged in a spiritual battle, but they do not need to fear the unknown because Jesus Christ reigns over every realm—land, sea, and sky. His authority is absolute, His victory is complete, and Christians can confidently walk in wisdom, discernment, and the power He has given them. We have for you this evening a deluge of divine underwater divas! Mermaids are some of folklore and fantasy's most magical creatures, and for centuries, artists have been obsessed with bringing them to life on canvas. Our three, briny, beautiful paintings are: Ulysses and the Sirens, by Herbert James Draper. Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom, by Ilya Repin. And Contemplation or Promise, by Victor Nizovtsev. Don't forget your snorkel!Special Thanks to Sounds Like an Earful Music Supply for the amazing music AND sound design.a

In today's episode we descend beneath the tides to explore the world of mermaids — their folklore, symbolism and the magic that surrounds them. This episode also ties into my current Sea Witch work and upcoming Litha zine The Book of Tides, where we explore mermaids, selkies, water magic, sea folklore and the many sacred forms of magical water used within witchcraft and folk practice. Over on Patreon this month we descend beneath the tides with our new theme - Sea Witch. Throughout May we will be exploring the magic of the sea through guided meditation, folklore, plant magic, ritual, glamour, tides and oceanic witchcraft. Together we will journey into the liminal space between shore and sea, working with the subconscious, emotional alchemy and the deep, magnetic energy of the ocean. This month includes a guided meditation journey beneath the waves, sea plant lore exploring kelp and bladderwrack, a deep dive podcast episode on sea witchcraft and a Sea Witch Glamour & Power ritual focused on embodiment, magnetism, beauty and feminine ocean energy. In this month's Circle on Thursday 28th May from 7pm within the Witches Who Run With the Wolves tier, we gather beside the tides to reclaim the lost skin of the self. Together we will journey through a guided selkie meditation of remembrance and return — a journey into the deep waters of intuition, identity, longing, and reclamation. This circle may stir themes of reclaiming hidden parts of yourself, releasing old identities, reconnecting with intuition, and remembering who you were before survival became your shape. The circle will include a guided selkie meditation, journal prompts, tarot and oracle reflection. I will pull cards for the collective circle, and you are very welcome to bring your own tarot or oracle cards to pull for yourself during the evening. A Zoom link will be posted on the morning of the circle and a replay will be available the following day for those unable to attend live. This gathering is available through the Witches Who Run With the Wolves tier on Patreon. Join here - https://www.patreon.com/c/TheHedgeandHollow?redirect=true My new zine Beneath the Hawthorn Tree is out now, in this zine my zine covers an in-depth look at Beltane and how you can celebrate it, all of its magickal associations, related deities, herbs, flowers, foods, crystals, trees, animals and journal and tarot prompts for Beltane, we look at the element of fire and how to honour it within your practice and then we go full fae with sections the faery realm, how to journey or astral travel to the faery realm, faery witchcraft, pixies, brownies, the bantee or woman of the house (a female Irish counterpart of the brownie), then we look at deities such as Morgan Le Fay and Cliodhna, their lore and how to work with them. We finish up with a very in depth section on faery flora and fauna with foxglove and hawthorn. There will also be a witch box alongside this zine with 'Night of the Fae' candles, herb blend, vanilla incense and a fae altar print of trooping faeries. ORIGINAL AIR DATE: AUG 14, 2023Were the fertility goddesses of the ancient world the women who'd been taken as wives by the rebel Watchers? Michael Gagliardi, author of Devil Take the Hindmost, a terrifying account of his childhood as the son of a mother possessed by demons, joins us to discuss an aspect of the pre-Flood world most of us have never considered: Is it possible the women venerated as fertility goddesses were simply those women who'd been chosen by the “sons of God” to bear their hybrid offspring?
When Professor Helene Marsh first began researching dugongs on the Great Barrier Reef, the only ones she encountered were dead - tangled in fishing nets. Then, in the 1990s, Queensland became the centre of a fierce conservation battle known as the “Dugong Wars”. No torpedoes were fired, but the conflict between marine scientists, industry groups and governments was intense, as researchers like Professor Marsh fought to remove nets from critical dugong habitat.Today, dugongs face even greater threats, from climate change and habitat loss to extreme weather and declining seagrass meadows. In this episode, Professor Marsh shares the remarkable story of the Dugong Wars, the science behind these elusive “mermaids of the sea”, and the urgent mission to ensure they survive into the future.Support the showHelp Keep Word on the Reef Afloat! Please take 2 minutes to fill out our Word on the Reef Listener Survey to help us apply for funding for the show!PROTECT THE REEF - Sign these Petitions Now!Australian Marine Conservation Society: Australia, it's time to lead on Climate Action!Divers for Climate: Sign the 'I'm a Diver for Climate' National StatementAustralian Conservation Foundation: No New Coal and Gas!Queensland Conservation Council: Take Strong Climate Action and Build a Positive Renewable Future! Our Islands Our Home: Protect the Torres Strait Islands from Climate ChangeGreenpeace: Save the Great Barrier Reef!WWF Australia: Protect NatureRising Tide: ...

Are women good at poetry? Can they even write it? These were probably serious questions people in the past were asking. In today's episode we have an answer that is a loud and clear “YES”, as we read works of female English, Scotch and Irish women throughout 17th-19th centuries. _________________ Check out my Patreon! https://patreon.com/textory
www.patreon.com/theconspiracypodcastThe ocean has always been the last great unknown. Long before maps were complete, before satellites scanned every inch of the earth, sailors stared out into endless water and swore something was staring back.Mermaids didn't begin as the bright, red-haired figure we know today. They began in the shadows—ancient myths of half-human creatures tied to gods, shame, and transformation. In Greece, they weren't even fish, but deadly Sirens whose voices lured men to their deaths. By the Middle Ages, they became symbols of temptation—beautiful, dangerous, and impossible to trust. But not all stories paint them as monsters. Some tell of mermaids living among humans… quietly learning how to survive on land. Others speak of sea-women taken from the ocean, only to leave years later when they find their way back. Sailors like Christopher Columbus claimed to see them—though not quite as beautiful as expected—while others, like John Smith, described something far more captivating. And then there are the strange cases. The stitched “Feejee Mermaid” that fooled thousands. The eerie mermaid mummies in Japan. Even modern sightings, where people still claim to see something sitting on rocks just before disappearing beneath the waves. So what are mermaids, really?A misidentified animal? A shared illusion? Or something deeper—something that lives in the space between what we see and what we want to believe?Tonight, the boys dive into the long, strange history of mermaids—from ancient myth to Disney—and explore why, even now, we're not entirely ready to let them go.
Throughout history, people have believed in or told stories about fantastical creatures to teach lessons, explain the unknown, or entertain others. Many of these stories originated from accounts by travelers, interpretations of discovered animal bones, or representations of remarkable natural phenomena. Over time, these creatures transitioned from stories to mythological staples embraced by everyday people and are still shared today. Well, well, well, we are BACK. 500 feet above the pavement in NYC after a detox way out east on Long Island. It is F U Friday and we are joined by the legendary Ron the Waiter and Comedian Tony P (calling in from the lawless state of Florida). We thought we'd heard it all, but Opie is officially floored by the absolute insanity of RFK Jr.'s animal obsession. Forget the bear cub; we dive deep into the newly resurfaced story of how the now-HHS Secretary (in 2026) chainsawed a dead whale's head off, bungee-corded it to his minivan, and drove his kids 5 hours with "whale juice" spraying into the windows. We cover the full RFK Animal Greatest Hits, including the roadkill raccoon penis surgery and the Central Park bear cub prank.Plus: Ron the Waiter makes the bold claim that mermaids are absolutely real, but can't provide any proof. Opie challenges him to "Just Prove It!" and the debate explodes. Tony P brings the heat from Florida, riding hard for the MAGA movement and Donald Trump, while Opie is venting about insane gas prices that are crushing everyone. Keywords: Opie Radio, F U Friday, Ron the Waiter, Tony P, RFK Jr., RFK whale story, RFK chainsaw, RFK raccoon, RFK bear cub Central Park, Donald Trump, MAGA, gas prices, mermaids are real, NYC comedy podcast.

For centuries, legends have warned of a mysterious half-human, half-fish creature lurking beneath the waves. Sailors claimed to be hypnotized by their beauty. Deadly pirates have been frozen in fear over the very sight of them.
