Strike! Union actions are everywhere. High profile work stoppages from the Screen Actors Guild to the United Auto Workers have put the labor movement front and center in ways we haven't seen for decades. How powerful is the impact of these actions? You're not going to like my take on it. "The Wolfenden Committee Report (1957), which informed the debate in the United Kingdom, states: [the function of the criminal law is] to preserve public order and decency, to protect the citizen from what is injurious or offensive and to provide safeguards against the exploitation and corruption of others, ... It is not, in our view, the function of the law to intervene in the private lives of citizens, or to seek to enforce any particular code of behaviour, further than is necessary to carry out the purposes of what we have outlined.[9] Views on what the best legal framework on prostitution should be are often influenced by whether one can view prostitution as morally acceptable or not; indeed Save the Children wrote:[10] "The issue, however, gets mired in controversy and confusion when prostitution too is considered as a violation of the basic human rights of both adult women and minors, and equal to sexual exploitation per se. From this standpoint then, trafficking and prostitution become conflated with each other." In December 2012, UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, released the "Prevention and treatment of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections for sex workers in low- and middle- income countries" document that contains the following "Good practice recommendations": All countries should work toward decriminalization of sex work and elimination of the unjust application of non-criminal laws and regulations against sex workers.† Governments should establish antidiscrimination and other rights-respecting laws to protect against discrimination and violence, and other violations of rights faced by sex workers in order to realize their human rights and reduce their vulnerability to HIV infection and the impact of AIDS. Antidiscrimination laws and regulations should guarantee sex workers' right to social, health and financial services. Health services should be made available, accessible and acceptable to sex workers based on the principles of avoidance of stigma, non-discrimination and the right to health. Violence against sex workers is a risk factor for HIV and must be prevented and addressed in partnership with sex workers and sex worker-led organizations." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

Louis Avallone and Stephen Parr provide a massive list of all the things the Biden Administration has done to the United States and to American citizens in the past three months! And as if that is not enough, the stock market did not like Biden’s determination to double the Capital Gains Rate in our taxing system. But if you don’t like what they are doing, be prepared to be accused of “causing people to die”….yeah, right! Our American Mamas, Denise Arthur and Teri Netterville, are very sympathetic for the difficult situations all of our small businesses have been in during the government imposed restrictions and shutdowns. If those businesses have any chance of surviving, they need as many customers as possible right now. One restaurant in New Jersey needed to turn over the tables at least every 90 minutes, but ran into one very rude customer not interested in cooperating. The Supreme Court has already ruled that workers cannot be forced to join labor unions in order to work, nor can “dues” be collected from the pay of non-union members. However, because Labor Unions have been in great decline in recent years, especially in states with Right-to-Work Laws, they have been pushing their liberal friends in Congress to make Right-to-Work laws illegal. The PRO Act (Protecting the Right to Organize Act) is dangerously close to passing in the Senate, even though 14 State Attorney Generals are opposed to it. It would enable labor unions to collect dues from all workers, whether those workers were members of the union or not. One of the Democrat Senators who is "protecting" the filibuster, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va) is unfortunately a co-sponsor on this bad bill.CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) is the league’s governing board for the North American/Central American/Carribean global region for FIFA (soccer). The two biggest teams in this league are Mexico and the USA. For non-soccer people, the announcement of where their 2022 World Cup qualifying games will be played is always a “big deal”; but this year, it takes on even greater significance. With 6 stadium locations, Texas clearly will be dominating. The Greater Dallas area will have three sites, Houston will have two sites, and Austin will have one. The remaining three locations will be Kansas City, KS, Orlando, FL, and Glendale, AZ. The Prelims will be in Ft. Lauderdale, and the Final will be in Las Vegas. Note that Texas and Florida are OPEN! It is also significant to remember that no games are going to be held in the highly “locked down” locations of California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Washington, DC.Under the heading of “Making Stuff Up”, the Biden Administration is wanting to give asylum to “Climate Change Migrants”! Meteorologist Stephen Parr explains why “Climate Change Migrants” actually do not exist. People should wait to express their opinions until they know all the facts. The Media has an extreme, anti-cop agenda, and they do edit video to serve their own agenda, rather than providing information for the public to consume and decide for themselves. After all, law enforcement’s job is to “protect and serve”. Let them do their job.

If things were different, 22-year-old Marylène Levesque would have known that her murderer was on day parole and had been found guilty of killing another woman years ago. She probably would have decided to not take him as a client, and she would still be alive today. But sex work laws in Canada prevent that kind of information to be known, even though it is legal to be a sex worker in this country. The criminalization around sex work doesn't protect sex workers–it puts them in danger. It also leads to misunderstandings about the industry. Sex work and sex trafficking are very different things. Today we discuss the damage caused when we conflate the two, why people choose to go into sex work in the first place, and what needs to change to protect them. There's been a recent spate of targeted violent attacks on sex workers across Ireland with the primary aim of theft. Charges have been brought against 3 men in Roscommon as part of Operation Quest. But surely our laws protect all workers from attack? Well, in 2017, legislation was introduced in Ireland to criminalise the purchase of sex. This was seen as a victory in some quarters for women's rights, and as a positive move to try and tackle the issues around women being trafficked. But many sex workers say that criminalising the purchase of sex drives sex work further underground and that the environment they work within becomes more dangerous. Conner Habib is a sex work's rights advocate, the host of the fantastic Against Everyone with Conner Habib, and author, lecturer, a Dubliner for the past year, and the only person (that we know of) who has won awards for writing, teaching, AND porn. With the recent decriminalisation of sex work in the Northern Territory in Australia by NT Attorney-General Natasha Fyles who said the new act was about keeping workers safe, we want to talk broadly today about sex work laws internationally, what philosophies underpin them, and what is best practice in terms of protecting the multiple rights that stem from sex work across the board.

U.S. Border Patrol is forced to close inland security checkpoints in NM and West Texas due to influx of immigrants claiming asylum A total of six checkpoints are closed, including all five in New Mexico, and one in West Texas The agents at the checkpoints deal largely with seizures of marijuana and other drugs from motorists. “To process and ensure appropriate care for those in custody, resources, including personnel, have been diverted from other border security priorities,” a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said in a statement. SEGMENT 2: NEWS FROM SANTA FE; GOV SIGNS BILLS TO INVALIDATE LOCAL RIGHT-TO-WORK LAWS; SAME-DAY VOTER REGISTRATION; HOSTS CALL WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONS Right-to-Work: Supporters of right-to-work legislation in New Mexico were dealt a big blow Wednesday when Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law a bill to prohibit counties from passing their own right-to-work laws. The bill (House Bill 85) was a direct answer to a push by right-leaning organizations, led by Americans for Prosperity, to localize efforts that failed to pass the Legislature in 2015. Even with HB 85 signed into law, there will likely be a legal challenge. Burly Cain (Americans for Prosperity) said there are “ongoing legal discussions going on” about whether the New Mexico Constitution allows for the state to retroactively repeal local county laws and whether the National Labor Relations Act allows counties to pass such legislation. Same-Day Voter Registration: New Mexico is the 18th state (plus the District of Columbia) to allow same-day voter registration. The law will not go into effect until 2021, so it will not be in place for next year’s presidential election. And the law will not allow voters to change their party affiliation during a primary election. Lujan Grisham said the law will increase voter participation. In 1957, an article in the Stanford Law Review asked the question: can counties and cities pass right to work ordinances under the Taft-Hartley Amendments to the National Labor Relations Act? The law explicitly allowed states to prohibit "agency-shop" contracts, but did not clearly address subdivisions of states. This question of federal preemption was addressed by courts only three times in more than fifty years. In that time, twenty-six states have passed statewide right to work laws. But recently, Hardin County in Kentucky passed, and the federal Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit upheld, a local right-to-work ordinance. Consequently, this sleeper issue may be hugely important in "purple" states across the country. Our panel of labor law and federalism experts talked about the law and politics of local right to work laws. -- Featuring: Mr. Andrew R.
