The M23 rebels who seized the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo city of Goma last week are said to be gaining new ground despite their declaration of a unilateral ceasefire. The Associated Press cites officials and residents in eastern DRC who say that the M23 Wednesday took control of a mining town between occupied Goma and another provincial city, Bukavu. Reporter Al Katanty Sabiti Djaffar in Goma tells VOA's James Butty, the M23 has also appointed a governor for North Kivu province and called for a general meeting Thursday

Logansport is a rural city 78 miles north of Indianapolis known for its diverse, urban population of 18,000 people. People from at least 28 countries call Logansport home with at least 27 languages spoken. The influx of new people coming to the city has some government officials speaking out believing the current growth is not sustainable. It’s getting harder to deny what’s happening in Auburn. Less than a week ago, I reported on the growing wave of shootings and stabbings in the city, the kind of violence that keeps you up at night — if not from worry, then from the sounds of actual gunfire. A shocking video shows a crew of gun-wielding men storm through a Colorado apartment building overrun by the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, which has overtaken multiple housing complexes in the area. In the clip, obtained by Fox Denver, a group of heavily armed men — including three with handguns and one with a rifle — can be seen in surveillance video entering another troubled apartment complex in the Denver suburb of Aurora and breaking into a unit. The Aurora Police Department acknowledged it is “aware that components of [Tren de Aragua] are operating in Aurora,” saying that the police force “has been increasingly collecting evidence to show the gang is connected to crimes in the area.
