How many times have you tried to go on a health journey with the main focus being to lose weight as fast as possible? I know I've done it tons of times. The truth is, focusing too much on weight loss be any means possible is not a health journey. It's just a recipe for misery and burnout. In reality, none of us can have success with a healthy lifestyle until we completely change how we define and understand true health. For us women, I believe it's been sold to us as endless cardio and salads. It is truly NOT that. Like I said, I've tried to lose weight tons of times and failed at each of them. THIS time, I tried to actually just get healthy, and lo and behold, I've lost over 20lbs as a side effect. Aaaaand it's been sustainable and has not felt restrictive! It all begins in your brain. We MUST look at health deeper than just weight loss! Today I'm sharing a few tips that relate to mindset and behavior/habit changes that have helped (and continue to help me) me on my way to true health from the inside out! If you like this episode, please make sure to rate, review, subscribe, and share it on social media and with a friend! Keep up with me on IG: @seannagregs
Back with another episode! This week we're talking about mediocrity vs. what I call "everyday extraordinary". Do you look around and see how many older adults lack confidence, seem miserable, and just look like they haven't challenged themselves in decades? What is it about the world that sucks us in and conditions us to settle and be comfortable? Why is this normal? I do not think young women should be mediocre. And that doesn't mean being the next Beyonce or girl boss! In this episode, I go over what I think mediocrity is and how to make sure you don't let yourself slip into the habit of just existing and never progressing! Adulthood is mostly adapting to the constant change and evolution that life brings. When we move out, get married, have kids, etc. our lives of course are completelyyyyy different! Our parents' lives also change with us becoming adults and creating our own lives and families. I thought discussing these changes and the needs for boundaries and also GRACE with yourself and your family members was important as it seems like a lot of people our age have similar experiences. This episode is inspired by several conversations I've had with other young adults in the last few months. I noticed every person I spoke to was uncomfortable talking about when their loved ones may have crossed a boundary with them. I heard a lot of "I love my family buuuuut....." and then they would proceed to say whatever line was crossed. Here's the thing: more often than not, our families come from a good place! However, we do have to set firm boundaries with them. As we grow up, get married, and have kids, our priorities shift. We have a new immediate family. Sometimes, our parents and in-laws can feel lost in that shuffle and we all feel weird addressing it with each other. This epsiode is to highlight that while it is uncomfortable, we can come to the conversation with grace. But we cannot avoid these conversations!
Whaddup, ragazze?? I am SO EXCITED for today's episode! Today we have an interview with Jiordana Saade, an expert in Food Behavior. Jiordana is someone who is on my vision board of dream guests for Better Millennial, so I am so happy to have had the chance to speak with her! During this conversation we talk about overeating, the relationship between food and our behavior, our thoughts on what the body positivity movement gets right and wrong, societal messaging around weight/body image, and so much more. If you enjoy this episode please review, subscribe, and share the podcast on social media -- it helps the show so much! If you want to keep up with Jiordana, you can find her on social media, listen to her podcast, or visit her website below! https://www.themindfullclinic.com/about Instagram: @jiordanasaade Podcast: Head to Heal
Insecurities. We all have them. BUT, your 20s are a time to dig into them, face them, and HEAL. Most of our insecurities are plainly just untrue beliefs about ourselves. In this episode, I share my thoughts on how important it is to pin point the root cause/situation for these and even share a personal story of my own! Please make sure to rate, review, and subscribe to the podcast if you are enjoying it! Keep up with me on IG: @seannagregs
Whaddup, ragazze?? Listen, if you're from anywhere near the Philly area, you know the saying - NO ONE LIKES US, WE DON'T CARE!! Last Thursday was my birthday and I was really thinking about what I've been learning as I've gotten older and I thought of this lovely little slogan from Philly. And I realized, it's a good motto for life! If you find yourself still highly concerned with other people's opnions of you, you are not aging correctly, ma'am. Remember to rate, review, a subscribe to the podcast and share with a friend!! IG: @seannagregs
Whaddup, ragazze! If you are a creative girl - this episode is 200% for you! I've always had that "shiny object" syndrome/slight scatter brain personality and I've always thought it to be a big weakness of mine. In our culture, we value kids who can just sit down and shut up and retain info in school and the creative brains are posed as less than the scientific and mathematic brains. While all are important since we need scientists and doctors, I don't feel like we highlight how creative people are the one's that make the world beautiful!! In this episode, I'm giving you the best reasons to embrace and LOVE you creative brain - even if it's a bit chaotic - as told by the study of Positive Psychology. If this resonates with you, please share the episode with a friend and on social media and subscribe, rate, and review wherever you listen! IG: @seannagregs
Whaddup, ragazze? Today I have my sister, Devyn, on to discuss what we've each learned from moving away from where we grew up. I'm sure a lot of you have had similar experiences. If you haven't and you get the chance, I'd say move away from your hometown even if it's just for a short time and even if it's only a town/city or two over! Removing yourself from a familiar environment invites so much growth and more specifically, it gives you the space to figure out who you really are without the influence of everyone and everything you've been affected by your whole life! Which is a good thing! Make sure to subscribe, rate, review, and share this podcast with a millennial (or genz ) friend!
Remember when this podcast was called Tell Me About Your 20s and I quite literally just interviewed peeps about the important lessons they've learned or experiences they've had in young adulthood? Well, it was tough to produce and book people and record week to week, so I thought we'd make it a series on Better Millennial! Today, I've brought my fiance, Tyler, on to talk about how he has cultivated his core values while going through his 20s. We talk about things like loyalty, partnership, and putting yourself into uncomfortable positions to make the changes needed to grow! It's a great conversation and I loved having Tyler on! Please make sure to subscribe, rate, review, and share this podcast out with your pals :)
Why, yes, we are going to be talking about periods today! How come? Because our periods tell us so much about our health and we are weirdly not taught enough about them! There's tons of debate on why we are not taught in depth about this part of our bodies and we won't get into that. But one thing is clear - lots of women work against their cycles in their daily and monthly routine and don't even know it! Also, have you ever heard of your period referred to as your 5th vital sign? I never have! But we can learn so much about hormone imbalances and toxcity in the body simply by paying attention to our cycles. Tracking your cycle isn't just for when you want to have a baby! Paying attention to what phase you're in throughout the month can help you structure your activities to work with your physiology! For instance, STOP TRYING TO DO HIIT WORKOUTS WHEN YOU ARE ON YOUR PERIOD. STOP IT. And stop beating yourself up for not going as hard in your workouts during this time! Your body is naturally in a phase where it's asking you to give it a few days to a week to just slow down. In this episode, I'm going to discuss some period myths (did you know that cramps don't have to happen??), the phases of menstrual cycle, and foods you can eat to support each phase and help keep you feeling good all month long! I'm going to be referencing the book In the Flo by Alisa Vitti in this epsiode, so most of the information will come from there. I know everyone thinks it's weird and gross to talk about periods, but the truth is it's a huge marker of health for women and I definitely think we all need to know this information. It's our health!! Once you start paying a little more attention to where you're at each month, I promise you'll realize that your body was giving you different queues all month long since your very first period. You can write it off as too "woo woo", I thought the same thing! But I'd ask you to just consider listening to this episode and consider taking more time to slow down and pay attention to your natural rhythm!
It's not secret social media has been attributed to many mental health issues in younger generations. Today I picked a few of the behaviors and feelings that I see the most in millennials: self absorption, the fear of missing out, and loneliness. We have let the decorum on social media get OUT. OF. HAND. Do you notice how when you're writing a post, you may self-censor or put 300 disclaimers in your caption if you even give a hint of an opinion? We all do it. Why? Because we've allowed social media to become a place where we EXPECT rude comments from random people who don't like what we have to say about the food we're eating, the shirt we're wearing, the podcasts we share, the people we follow -- you name it, someone's got a problem with it and they're going to scoot into your comments section to tell ya! We need to get back to grace. We need to get back to humanely interacting with other people. ON- AND OFFLINE. We need to get back to a place where we understand the nuance of what others are saying and don't immediately search for a hole in their arguments to attack them on. The world is starving for kind people who assume the best of others, listen intently to their points of view, and respectfully disagree when they have a different perspective. I believe this community can bring this back to the norm again. :) Subscribe, rate, review, and share! Keep up with me on IG: @seannagregs
We are our brains AND body and it's time to start thinking holistically!! The foods we consume impact our brains just as much as our bodies. A brain friendly diet is crucial in becoming the best versions of ourselves, ESPECIALLY as women (in my opinion). Today, I'm using This Is Your Brain on Food by Dr. Uma Naidoo as guide to discuss the foods that could be contributing to poor mental health in all of us. I highly recommend this book if this is a topic that interests you! Please subscribe, rate, review, and share this podcast! It really helps! Thank you so much for listening! Judgment has such a negative connotation, and for the most part, I see why! We pass judgment so quickly on others and tend to forget our own faults. BUT, do we really expect that we should all go through life never passing any judgment? Can judgment ever be a good thing? I think so and I explain why on this short and sweet episode! Make sure to leave a rating and review and share this podcast on social media! Keep up with me on IG: @seannagregs
Can what we eat really affect our mental state? YES MA'AM! In today's episode, I go over in super basic terms the connection between the brain and the gut and why what we put into our bodies directly relates to how we feel mentally. I'm currently reading This is Your Brain on Food by Dr. Uma Naidoo, a Nutritional Psychiatrist at Harvard. The information from this book is what is informing today's episode. I HIGHLY recommend this book! As women, it is important to learn about our hormones, how to handle stress, etc., as anxiety disorders tend to occur more in us than in men (but men need to learn about and monitor their mental health, too! We want our guys to be happy and healthy!). The type and quality of the food we eat can help support a healthy brain, so why not learn all we can?? I am going to create a few episodes based on the facts I learn from this book, so this topic will be peppered in with all other topics we discuss on this podcast! Oh, and welcome to Season 2! :)
I brought my sister back to discuss more reasons that we believe millennials are unhappy!
Why are we so unhappy? Of course, there's tons of reasons, such as the economy and politics, but we're going to focus on reasons that we can control. From feeling ignorant when it comes to money to simply just having no identity, Dev and I talk through why it's important to align yourself with values, how impulsive behavior is destroying us, and of course, why you should spend less time on social media. All that and more in this week's episode. Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the podcast! Follow on IG! @seannagregs
Big decisions and stressful times happen more and more frequently the older we get. In our 20s, it seems like it's all crashing in on us at once! But really, the rest of our lives will constantly present new challenges and bigger decisions and it will NEVER feel like the right time. We can control external forces, but we can control ourselves! And that's good news! Today I have a solo epsiode discussing how I manage to keep myself the most positive when I am in a high stress season. As women, it's espeically important to regulate our moods and mental health, so I hope this episode gives you some good tips and just some PEACE! It's so important to heal from emotional wounds/negative beliefs from childhood in general, but it's especially important to heal from them before marriage and parenthood! In this episode, I talk with my sister about some of our own lasting negative thoughts from childhood and pull information from the book "It Didn't Start With You" by Mark Wolynn. Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe wherever you listen! Follow me on IG: @seannagregs
I recently had a conversation with someone who told me they thought people only go to the gym to look better. While I think it's ok to want to look good, I completely disagree that this is the sole reason we workout! In my experience, your physique changes are the LAST to manifest. Better mood, better sleep, and brain clarity are just a few of the IMMEDIATE benefits of eating nutritious foods and being active! The best way to sustain a healthy lifestyle is to have more goals than just improving how your body looks (and again -- it's still ok for that to be part of it!!) I would love to see our society highlight health first and better looks as a side effect of being healthy, so I brought my health and fitness coach, Paula Ciarniello, on to discuss alllllll the positives of working out that aren't related to appearance! If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review! Follow Paula on IG: @paulaciarniello Follow me on IG: @seannagregs
Millennials and Gen Z have such high rates anxiety and depression, so this week I wanted to dedicate an episode to discussing some less talked about ways we can boost our moods and build a positive head space. I encourage you to implement these tips in your life! Take your mental health seriously -- it all begins with you mind :)
Here is the final review of "The Defining Decade" by Dr. Meg Jay! The last section discusses the brain and the body. Make sure to let me know on IG (@seannagregs) if you read the book and what your thoughts were!
We are back after a little break! Here is part 2 of our review of "The Defining Decade" by Dr. Meg Jay. This section of the book deals with the importance of forming good relationships in your 20s. Whether romantic or friendships, the people you choose to be around and have your kids around is incredibly important. We've all heard the sentiment that you are most like the 5 people you spend a majority of your time with, so putting thought into the relationships you cultivate is crucial in young adulthood! Remember to rate, review, and subscribe to the podcast! IG: @seannagregs
Another interview this week! Today I spoke with my health coach, Paula, about her experience in her 20s. She went to school for art and ultimately decided on pursuing a career in the health and fitness industry. She recently made the jump from having a super awesome and super stable job with a popular health/wellness/supplement company to running her own fitness coaching business for women! We chatted about how she arrived at this point and a bunch of personal obstacles she faced in between. If you feel stuck in your current path, this epsiode is for you! Remeber to subscribe, rate, and review the show if you've been enjoying it!
Self care is a HUGE buzz phrase on social media and has been for a while. I love seeing people share messages with fellow humans to remember to work their hobbies into their lives, take vacations, and manage their stress! However, I do think we have started to confuse self care with condoning some of our harmful habits and behavior. I'll be discussing more of my thoughts on this week's epsiode and would love to hear your thoughts, as well! Send me a DM on IG @seannagregs to let me know what you think of the ideas I shared. Please also leave us a 5-star review and subscribe if you have been liking the show!
Another new episode format! This week I have my sister, Devyn, back to discuss the first section of the book "The Defining Decade" by Dr. Meg Jay. If you follow me on instagram (@seannagregs) you know that I have been talking about and recommending this book to twenty somethings a lot lately! So, we decided we'll be doing a mini series on the podcast reviewing the book. I highly recommend you read this book if you're in your 20s. Shoot me a DM to let me know your thoughts if you've read it! Make sure to subscribe, rate, and review the show if you've been enjoying it!
Back with a bite sized episode! This week it's just me talking to you about how when we make personal improvements to ourselves, we often get negative reactions even from the people closest to us. It's an unfortunate reality, but the key to dealing with it is knowing an old cliche: the negative projections others throw your way aren't yours to take on. If you've ever experienced a negative response from a loved one when you know you're doing something incredibly positive for yourself and your life, this is episode is for you! Thanks for listening and make sure to subscribe, rate, and review!
This week I wanted to try a different format for the podcast! Instead of an interview, I brough my sister back on to talk about a specific topic: not feeling good enough. This seems to be a feeling that a majority of young adults have on a pretty consistent basis, so we wanted to discuss what we think the root causes are and where we struggle with it personally! Make sure to rate, review, and subscribe if you're enjoying the show!
Welcome back to another interview! This week I got to speak with my friend Ashley about her time in her 20s and the conversation centered around relationships. We talked about friendships, romantic relationships, and even the relationship with yourself! In young adulthood, it's important to build strong connections and free yourself from ones that are no longer bringing value to your life. A lot of times that means "breaking up" with old friends and finding new, life long friends as an adult! Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the show if you're enjoying it! It helps the podcast tremendously!
What up!! This week I spoke with my sister's boyfriend, Shawn about his experience in his 20s. Shawn definitely had a lot of character building in the beginning of young adulthood! From balancing multiple jobs with school, to figuring out his career while going through a breakup - life and decisions came at him fast as they tend to do to all of us at this age! He shares advice the importance of taking risks and investing in yourself. Two lessons that cannot be understated in this phase of life. I hope you guys enjoy this episode! Don't forget to rate and review the show! See ya next week :) P.S. - if you'd like to be a guest on Tell Me About Your 20s, head over to my Instagram @seannagregs and fill out the Google form in my bio!
Happy Thursday! This week I got to speak with my cousin, Gwen, and it honestly just felt like we were having a heart to heart. One topic we kept coming back to was being intentional with how we're spending our time as young adults. This is a lesson I keep learning in my personal life and one that I think is so important for twenty-somethings to hear over and over again. Remember, there are tons of ways to measure success -- and I hope your happiness is one of the metrics you use in gauging that! Enjoy! (And please remember to rate and review the show :) )
This week is a solo episode! Just a few personal development tips that every 20-something can start implementing NOW!! Remember, it's ok to want to improve and get better -- it's human nature for crying out loud. Never let anyone make you feel weird or like you're being too much for wanting to rise. Don't keep yourself small to appease insecure people :)
This week we hear from fellow 20-something, Rachel Martelli. Rachel shares her story of becoming a hairstylist, moving to Nashville and back, starting a business and allllll the pivots she's had to make while pursuing her passions! While self doubt and fear of others' opinions crossed her mind maybe more than a few times, Rachel's journey is one of adaptability and resilience! Even if you're not a hair stylist or business owner, her story is incredibly relatable as the internal struggles she shares in this conversation are common in all of us. As always I hope you enjoy the episode and don't forget to leave a review!
In this episode, my sister, Devyn, tell us about her 20s. With trying different jobs, moving to Florida, and pursuing passions outside of work, Dev has a lot to share about jumping into new things and NEVER sacrificing your true goals and desires by settling yourself into what's "comfortable".
Just a quick overview of what this podcast is going to bring to you! First episode coming in April!
