She is a business coach of leaders in the corporate world, in network marketing, and leaders in ministry. As part of my ongoing exercise in trimming and pruning my life, I spent the last 2 weeks prayerfully thinking about and writing down a Pro's and Con's list of the 18 things that I have been doing for work. That process helped me narrow my work-life down to 5 main areas of focus. And, I balance them with 1 main area of focus personally. I share it all in this 3rd-to-last episode of the Courage Cast before my long 5-month planned hiatus.

This episode is about my backstory about the process of pruning and trimming and why it matters so much to me now."Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit." - John 15:2How many of you have clutter in your life? How many of you are frustrated with areas of your life that just don't seem to working for you anymore? This is about you - your disciplines, processes, systems in your life and how you can improve them by taking inventory of your life and identifying areas of waste, disorganization, fat or inefficiencies. Then, come up with a plan to systematically remove these from your life, so you can experience greater freedom and margin in your life to be the best version of you possible!

Today, I share a devotional message from a devotional book I read every morning called The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn (NYTimes Bestseller of the book The Harbinger). Every day for an entire year, an imaginary teacher gives his student daily ancient lessons taught for thousands of years in Jewish tradition. This is the basic premise of the book. Jonathan Cahn mixes old testament and new testament lessons leading the reader to deeper insights into the teachings of Jesus and how it relates to their life today. Every devotional entry is interesting, but this one had a more profound impact on me. This one is called THE TENT WORLD (Day 50). Let me know, by messaging me on Twitter, if you want to hear more messages like this from me in the future.

I discuss a really interesting article I was sent recently. I learned 3 simple things I can do to help instill confidence in my kids. I think these truths are applicable to leadership as well. Here's the research article I discussed.
Real Estate Investor and Entrepreneur, Daniel Petersen, joins me to talk about a thing we call "The Talk" we have started together. Zechariah 4:10 says "Do not despise small beginnings." We sit down to talk just before the start of the first of six small group meetings we'll be hosting at my house. Each week, more than a dozen young entrepreneurs and future business leaders will join us for dinner and entrepreneurial conversation. Specifically today, we will lead a discussion about what an entrepreneur is and isn't. We answer the question "what qualifies you to be an entrepreneur?". I hope you enjoy our fun, impromptu discussion just before we head into our meeting!
Over the years, I've heard my boys call certain kids in school or on the sports fields "Try Hards". I guess it's a term used for people that seem to be trying extra hard to win or succeed. In some ways, I kind of feel sorry for those kids...because it's actually a really good thing to want to do well and succeed. But, on the other hand, I get their point. Try Hards are over-the-top where it becomes annoying. As I was preparing this message, I wondered if I have been a closet "Try Hard" all my life. Haha. Anyway, here's my message for today. I am trying too hard to do too many things for too many people too much of the time. And, instead what I've been learning is that I actually experience more success when I do this... (you'll have to listen to the episode to find out what that is). You're probably saying to yourself...typical TRY HARD thing to do. Haha. As always, I hope this message inspires and awakens something new in you!- Eric
Phil Mickelson shocked the golf world by winning the 103rd PGA Championship (one of the 4 major golf tournaments of the year) last week. He turns 51 in June...and no one that old has ever won a major golf tournament. Many have noticed he is a much calmer, more patient golfer than he's ever been. Something was different about Phil. It turns out Mickelson has been practicing relaxation, meditation and visualization techniques these last 2-3 years. I thought it would be interesting to look at what he implemented in his golf game and look at how we can apply it to our game in real life. After all, it is called the game of life for a reason. Why not work towards mastering our game by applying what Phil has to our lives as well! Here's a summary of what we can learn from Phil Mickelson's victory in our personal and work life:Proper preparation starts with a powerful mindsetSelect the club you can swingFor the next shot, make it the best routine of the dayIf you don't see it, you cannot create itMake a complete swingLink to the PGA.com article mentioned in the podcast.
There's a big difference in how we can approach others and have success. The first way is to want something from someone else. This is coming to the person from a position of needing something from the person. The second, more powerful position is coming to a person seeking to provide value, seeking to give something because I'm already full of worth and value already. Which do you think is the more healthy position to be in? Thanks to Tasha Smith for the inspiration behind this post. Please go get her book - CUSTOMER FIRST - if you're in sales or in network marketing of any kind. This book will help you.
When you make an assumption, you tell yourself that something is true without actually having any evidence that it is. It's all too easy to lead your life never questioning that you are assuming things to be facts. In today's podcast episode, I discuss what I've been learning about assumptions. I learned they are not all bad - that we are actually wired to make assumptions. But, it can be very harmful to us when we assume. I talk about how assumptions affect us in our personal, spiritual, and business life. ADVENTURE - over the last month, that word -‘adventure’- keeps coming up in conversations I have, in sermons I hear, in podcasts I listen to, and in books I read. When I hear something over and over again, I know it’s something I need to pay attention to. ⠀⠀How about you? What resonates with you as you read this? What adventures are you taking with God? Where in your life can you be more of an open vessel - living with an open heart, an open mind, so you can contain the infinity of God? It’s such a mystery - but it’s an adventure!⠀
Before he died, a father said to his son; “Here is a watch that your grandfather gave me. It is almost 200 years old. Before I give it to you, go to the jewelry store downtown. Tell them that I want to sell it, and see how much they offer you.” ⠀⠀The son went to the jewelry store, came back to his father, and said; "They offered $150.00 because it's so old.” ⠀⠀The father said; “Go to the pawnshop." The son went to the pawnshop, came back to his father, and said; "The pawnshop offered $10.00 because it looks so worn.” ⠀⠀The father asked his son to go to the museum and show them the watch. He went to the museum, came back, and said to his father; “The curator offered $500,000.00 for this very rare piece to be included in their precious antique collections.” ⠀⠀The father said; “I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way. Don't find yourself in the wrong place and get angry if you are not valued. Those that know your value are those who appreciate you, don't stay in a place where nobody sees your value.” ⠀Scriptures to meditate on:Psalm 139Matthew 6Romans 5Ephesians 2
