Why Is Israel Back in the Land if They Don't Believe? (featuring Stephen Briggs)

The Jewish Road

Why would God restore Israel to the Land if they don't believe in Jesus? That's the question many Christians wrestle with - and the one Ezekiel 36 answers head-on. In this wide-ranging conversation with filmmaker and Bible teacher Stephen Briggs of Hatikva Films, we explore the prophetic timeline of Israel's restoration, the continuity of God's covenant with Abraham, and the flaws in replacement theology that blur the story of Scripture.  Together we trace how the Hebrew nuances of Genesis 12, the promises of Ezekiel 36, and the disciples' question in Acts 1 all reveal the same truth: God's faithfulness comes before Israel's faith. Stephen shares insights from life in Jerusalem, stories from the “Blessing, Curse, or Coincidence” film series, and a clear-eyed view of what God is doing in our generation.  Whether we're talking about prophecy, politics, or discipleship, the message is the same - the restoration of Israel is the greatest evidence that God keeps His promises. Key Takeaways God's covenant with Israel is unconditional and still active. Ezekiel 36 sets the divine order: regather first, renew next. Israel's unbelief magnifies God's grace, not His absence. Replacement theology collapses when read against Scripture's storyline. Modern Israel's return is the stage for future spiritual renewal. Believers are invited to pray, comfort, give, and go. God's faithfulness to Israel confirms His faithfulness to us. Dr. Camden Bucey speaks at the Reformed Forum Annual Theology Conference, held at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois on September 27, 2025. Dr. Bucey weaves together the themes of the previous lectures into one coherent narrative centered on Christ. The address establishes that the entire grand narrative of Scripture, from the promise of the serpent-crushing seed in Eden to the apocalyptic visions of Daniel, is converging on the single, brilliant point of Christ's person and work. Dr. Bucey emphasizes that Christ's incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension constitute the central objective act of redemption and bring the era of special revelation to its completion. The focus is on Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God, who is the ultimate fulfillment of all covenant promises and redemptive types, particularly the Passover, and the one who brings history to its appointed, glorious consummation, which is the eternal Sabbath rest of God's kingdom. Dr. Daniel Ragusa speaks at the Reformed Forum Annual Theology Conference, held at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois on September 27, 2025.  Dr. Ragusa, focuses on the dark period of Israel's exile and how it illuminates the deep human longing to return to God's presence, which had been lost due to their rebellion. Dr. Ragusa first establishes the devastating nature of exile by contrasting it with the desired state of dwelling in God's house, a theme illustrated by the pilgrimage described in Psalm 23. He references the Heidelberg Catechism to frame the Christian experience as moving from the "valley of exile" (sin and misery) up to the "mountain of God" (righteousness and everlasting life) through the work of the "mountain ascending mediator," Jesus Christ. Crucially, even in the midst of the exile's darkness, God's hope continues to shine through the prophets, promising restoration, which is ultimately fulfilled in the gospel and glory of Jesus Christ. Trump brings Gaza war crimes home to US autistics.Using starvation to subjugate people is a war crime, whether at the point of a gun or denying SNAP benefits.November 1st, SNAP halted. Healthcare funding threatened. Social Security could vanish, Trump warns. 42 million Americans face losing food assistance. Not someday—right now.A nation that uses starvation on its own civilians? I'm no lawyer, but I'd argue that's tantamount to war on its own people. Any day of the week. And I consider it a crime in its own right, even if courts reserve “war crime” for armed conflict.I can hear it already: “You're being dramatic. That's hyperbolic. You can't compare domestic policy to Gaza.”Watch me.Medieval siege techniques. Surround them and starve them out. Whether it's Gaza or Indiana. What's Actually Happening? The Trump administration threatens benefits we count on to exist as political leverage during government shutdown negotiations. Support promised to the American public for decades, transformed into weapons to get what Trump wants. Here's what international law says about that. The Rome Statute explicitly classifies starvation of civilians as a war crime, a crime against humanity. Around the world, deliberately depriving people of food for political gain—that's defined as genocide. These aren't my words, they're international law.Gaza starvation: internationally recognized war crime.SNAP weaponization: They can call it an unfortunate policy choice, but it's the same tactic, just a different population. Location doesn't change that. Denying food to gain power simply is withholding food, withholding life for power. They're not negotiating. They're holding a gun to our heads. Why Autistics First?Numbers tell you everything you need to know. Autistics face an 85% unemployment rate. So we depend a lot on SNAP—I do. Most of us depend on Medicaid to see our doctors, and many of us are disabled, unable to work. So SSI dependency just to live, it's a high priority. The government knows exactly who gets hit when they pull these levers: autistics, neurodivergents. We're the most vulnerable first. We have the least political power of any minority group, I think. And look at the language they use. “Efficiency.” “Streamlining.” “Reducing dependency.” It's the old Nazi “useless eaters” logic dressed up in techno-bro management appeal. Killing off the weak, dusted off and wrapped in budget terminology. We're the testing ground, that's how it always works. Start with disabled people. Normalize the tactic. See who complains, see if you can get away with it. Then expand to the next group. We're the canaries in the coal mine. We die first. And we're already choking. The Roll Call of History: Every Empire Does ThisWant to know how I know this is a war crime? Because every failing empire does exactly this. Brings colonial violence home. Every. Single. One.France took torture techniques from Algeria, brought them home for Paris riot control. The U.S. militarized policing in the Philippines, deployed in Ferguson. Britain did the exact same thing: tactics used in the Irish colonies, in India, that came home to British workers as labor disputes escalated. This isn't speculation. This is documented history. The Ottoman Empire in its death throes: Armenian genocide, Greek genocide, Assyrian genocide. Ancient Rome. Ancient Egypt. Every single one.The pattern is always the same. It starts with unpopular groups: Jews, immigrants, disabled people, people they call “defective,” “foreign,” “unproductive.” Test on them first, see if anyone notices, see if anyone stops you, then expand.Scholars have a term for this: the “boomerang effect.” Or “internal colonialism”—when you apply colonial logic to your own people. Black radical thinkers saw this first, by the way. They recognized the pattern decades ago.The Gaslighting Ends HereSo when someone says “You're being dramatic”? No. I'm being historically accurate.“That's hyperbolic.” The Rome Statute disagrees. I can read you the details.“You can't compare domestic policy to war.” Every empire in history already done that. They already made that comparison for me.We're not comparing tragedies. “Who's suffering more than who?” We're recognizing tragedy. When policy debates require trigger warnings like this article, like this livestream, maybe it's not policy. When negotiations threaten survival, maybe they're not negotiations. When efficiency means starvation, maybe it's not efficient. It's fucking violence. That need for trigger warnings says it's violence. Not discourse. We're not being fragile. We're being informed. We're watching it happen in real time. Hell, it's obvious in every bowl of beans I eat instead of a hell of heavily tariffed hamburger. What We DoLiving through empire in decline: deadly for many. But here's what we do.We call it as we see it. We refuse sanitized language. When they say “policy,” we call it violence. Because starvation kills as sure as a bullet. Just slower. When they say “negotiate,” we name it hostage taking for the purpose of political power. When they say “efficiency,” we shout starvation tactics. It's medieval siege by budget. No catapults. No cannons. Just clean spreadsheets. We document the pattern. We recognize what's really happening while it's happening. We tell the truth about what we're witnessing. And we survive together. How? Let's talk again soon on meaningful resistance, survival, and mutual aid. I'm nearly ready to share my thoughts next week in my next livestream. The Picture I Want to Leave You WithTrump brings Gaza war crimes home. Not as a metaphor—as a moral diagnosis.Same tactics, similar intent, different location, same fucking outcome.Starvation is starvation. Siege is siege. Death is death. Even if the law reserves “war crimes” for battlefields and guys in uniform.Starting with autistics, starting with disabled people, starting with poor people, starting with anyone who needs to eat and expanding from there. Because that's how it always works. That's not drama, not autistic overreaction. If I ever hear that again—fuck the gaslighting we've lived through all our damn fucking lives. That's international law in definitions. That's documented history in its examples. That's pattern recognition across eras. We're just the ones recognizing it first.ClosingListen, that's all I got really. This episode, it's why I do these livestreams. Why I need this community, you guys.Because when they gaslight us, we need witnesses. We need truth. When they isolate us, we need each other. When they threaten our survival, we need to document what's happening in real time.See you next week around the same time. We'll talk resistance, mutual aid. What actually works when the empire comes home.Till then?Stay weird.Stay fierce.Stay alive.Key Timestamps for Chapter Markers:* 0:00 - Opening Thesis* 1:08 - What's Actually Happening* 2:23 - Why Autistics First* 3:19 - The Roll Call of History* 6:35 - The Gaslighting Ends Here* 7:50 - What We Do#AutisticAF Out Loud Newsletter is a reader-supported publication. Dr. R. Carlton Wynne speaks at the Reformed Forum Annual Theology Conference, held at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois on September 27, 2025. Dr. Wynne explores how the vast portion of the Old Testament covering the monarchy and prophetic periods (approximately 417 chapters) points to Jesus Christ. Dr. Wynne first establishes the central, Christ-centered scope of all Scripture, affirming that everything in the Old Testament looks forward to and finds its fulfillment in Christ's person and work, including his death and resurrection. The address then moves beyond viewing Christ merely as being prefigured in the Old Testament through "scale models" or "macro typology." Instead, it seeks a deeper sense in which the pre-incarnate Christ's power and heavenly kingdom principles were actively revealed through the history of Israel's kings and prophets, positioning these figures and institutions as intrusions of heavenly glory mediated by Christ himself. Why did Paul end his masterpiece in Romans with a promise that “all Israel will be saved”? What does that mean - and has it already happened, or is it still to come? In this wide-ranging conversation with Dr. Michael Brown, author of Our Hands Are Stained with Blood and host of The Line of Fire, we trace how Romans 9–11 reveals the continuity of God's plan for Israel and the nations.  Dr. Brown unpacks Paul's argument verse by verse, explains why replacement theology opened the door to antisemitism in church history, and clarifies how “all Israel” refers to a future national turning to Messiah - not merely a cumulative remnant. We also talk about the surge of antisemitism after October 7, the confusion in the modern church, and why believers must recover a biblical vision of Israel's role in redemptive history. This isn't a side issue. It's the center of the gospel's story of mercy. Key Takeaways Romans 11 completes the gospel logic: if Israel's rejection brought salvation to the world, her acceptance will bring life from the dead. “All Israel” means a future national turning, not just a historical remnant. The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable - for Israel and for the Church. Replacement theology helped pave the way for centuries of antisemitism. Understanding Israel clarifies the gospel's continuity from Abraham to today. The Church's calling is to provoke Israel to envy, not erase her identity. God's covenant faithfulness guarantees Israel's future redemption. Dr. James Cassidy speaks at the Reformed Forum Annual Theology Conference, held at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois on September 27, 2025. The lecture, titled "The Seed of Abraham, Christ in the patriarchs and the promise" by Dr. James Cassidy, addresses the common theological perception that New Testament authors, particularly the Apostle Paul in Galatians 3, give a "surprise ending" to the Old Testament, seemingly reading it against its original intent. Dr. Cassidy argues against this view by showing that the Abrahamic Covenant is fundamentally a covenant of grace, centered on Christ as the singular "offspring" of promise. He explains that the promise is both individual (Christ himself) and collective (all those redeemed through him from every nation), a subtlety Paul rightly handles without misinterpreting Genesis. Crucially, the address highlights that the subsequent giving of the Mosaic Law 430 years later did not and could not annul the original promise of justification by faith, thereby maintaining the primacy and immutability of God's covenant of grace. The story of Jesus doesn't begin in Bethlehem - it begins in Genesis. Rabbi Jason Sobel joins us to explore how the whole Bible, from creation to new creation, points to one Messiah and one redemptive plan. His new book, Transformed by the Messiah, invites readers to rediscover the power of Scripture as one seamless narrative rather than two disconnected halves. In this episode, we trace how the Hebrew Scriptures set the stage for the Gospel: Joseph's betrayal and restoration, the feasts that frame the Kingdom, and the prophetic rhythms that pulse beneath every New Testament page. Jason shows how the Messiah fulfills - not replaces - Israel's story, inviting both Jew and Gentile into God's covenant promises. We also talk about how this restored vision transforms how we live - rooted in God's faithfulness, connected to His appointed times, and awakened to a Messiah who holds all of Scripture together. The goal isn't to add something new but to recover what's been there all along: the unity, beauty, and coherence of God's Word from beginning to end. Key Takeaways The Bible tells one continuous story of redemption, not two separate Testaments. Transformed by the Messiah helps readers see how every part of Scripture points to Yeshua. The Old Testament provides the framework; the New Testament reveals the fulfillment. Joseph's life foreshadows Messiah's rejection, suffering, and ultimate reconciliation. The biblical feasts - especially Sukkot - reveal the shape of God's Kingdom plan. Seeing Jesus through His Jewish context restores depth and meaning to our faith. Transformation in Messiah is holistic: spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical - reflecting God's shalom. Chapter Markers 00:00—Welcome & Israel tour crossover 01:17—Rabbi Jason's encounter and journey to Yeshua 08:02—Bridging Old and New without “strange fruit” 15:28—Transfiguration and Sukkot explained 20:02—Numbers, gematria, and the “vav” 27:31—Behind the scenes of The Chosen 32:50—Living Jewish after Oct 7 38:58—Simchat Torah and hostages timing 41:52—Sukkah vs. “roof” (Gog) insight 47:27—End-times drift and loving Israel's Messiah 49:36—From information to formation: practices 54:15—Book release details & where to find it 57:52—Pre-order and why it matters 58:20—Shalom and close This episode invites you to read the whole Bible in high definition - seeing Yeshua where the story has always pointed. We don't know the problem we have: reading the Bible at the surface. English translations are trustworthy, but they flatten words that Hebrew infused with density, imagery, and connection. We end up missing layers of meaning that would transform how we live. In this conversation, we explore what happens when Hebrew cracks open the text.  Familiar words you thought you understood suddenly leap off the page. Hope is sturdier, love is covenantal, fear is reframed, faith is embodied. The story of God's promises comes alive in a way that makes you want to keep digging. This isn't about becoming a scholar. It's about recognizing that the Bible is one unified story and learning how the Hebrew underneath points us more deeply to the God who keeps His promises and to the Messiah who fulfills them. Key Takeaways We often assume we know what biblical words mean, but translation thins their meaning. Hebrew restores density, imagery, and connection across the Testaments. Reading with Hebrew awareness turns abstract concepts into embodied realities. Surface-level reading can keep us from seeing God's covenant faithfulness. The Bible is one story, not two disconnected halves. Studying Hebrew words is a practical tool for deeper discipleship. This shift leads to sturdier hope, reoriented fear, covenantal love, and faithful living.
