For the first time ever, The Lautners welcome back a past guest, Dr. Amen, for another conversation on mental wellness, this time for children. Whether you're a parent, want to be a parent, or have no desire to be a parent, Dr. Amen offers insight into relationships and development that we're certain you can apply to your life in some way. He explains the importance of special time, active listening, and letting children make affordable mistakes. In today's episode, we get into a topic that's close to my heart and, I suspect, a challenge for many of us: watching our kids face challenges. As much as we want to shield them from hardship, we know deep down that overcoming challenges is crucial to their growth. To explore this conundrum, I'm joined by Dr. Charles Fay, president of the Love and Logic Institute and co-author of Raising Mentally Strong Kids with Dr. Daniel Amen.Dr. Fay is both knowledgeable and compassionate, emphasizing that perfection is not the goal of parenting. Instead, he encourages us to embrace the messiness and challenges of family life as opportunities for growth, both for our children and ourselves. Here are some of the topics we cover:The Importance of Challenges: Dr. Fay shares how trials can lead to personal growth and foster a closer relationship with God and family.Mental Health and Young People: We discuss the concerning trends in mental health among youth today, with a particular focus on the impact of technology and the importance of teaching kids to resist unhealthy influences.Practical Parenting Tips: Dr. Fay offers actionable advice on setting limits, encouraging good decision-making, and nurturing mental strength in our children.Guidance from God: Perhaps most heartening is Dr. Fay's reminder to lean on our faith, focus on key principles, and seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in our parenting journey.Dr. Fay's wisdom is both encouraging and practical, equipping us with the tools to raise resilient, mentally strong kids. His insights remind us that while we cannot protect our children from every hardship, we can empower them to navigate life's challenges with grace and strength.Thank you for joining me in this important conversation. Here's to embracing the trials, teaching resilience, and trusting in God's plan for our children's lives.Connect With Dr Fay online at www.loveandlogic.com or on InstagramPre-order your copy of Raising Mentally Strong Kids HEREGet your set of 25 Biblically based Scripture cards today! Our Sponsors:* Visit HomeThreads.com/CPPODCAST today and get a 15% off code for your first order!Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Should we argue with our kids? How do we set boundaries with them? What kind of parent does it take to raise a strong and loving child? The President of Love & Logic Institute, Dr. Charles Fay joins us to talk about his new book, with colleague Dr. Daniel Amen, Raising Mentally Strong Kids. This might be one of the most light-hearted conversations we've ever had around what is arguably the most shaming role on the planet—parenting. Dr. Fay provides super practical insights on raising strong and loving kids. Here are some key quotes from this episode: On the goal of parenting: “We bond with people who are strong and loving. We don't bond with people who are strong but they're cold. And we don't bond with people who are loving but they're permissive and wishy washy. We want to, in the best way we can, emulate God. We want to be strong, and we want to be loving.” On cultural busyness: “Families don't go off the rails because they do too many bad things; it's because they do too many good things.” On sibling rivalry: “When it comes to sibling rivalry, who owns the relationship problem? When we jump in all of the time and become the hero, it makes it worse.”Dr. Fay helps us understand: What mental hygiene looks like for our kids. Why kids are going to fight the boundaries they know they need the most. The two ways to not get pulled into arguing with your kids and why they are so important. How to set boundaries with kids. What to do with phones and technology. How to manage sibling rivalry in innovative ways that help them own the relationship problem.Show Notes: Grab a copy of Raising Mentally Strong Kids by Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Charles Fay.https://amzn.to/48QldTx Ladies, sign up for Tender & Fierce Group Coaching Cohort with Christi! Did you know that we've been parents for over 30 years? We can still remember holding each of our children as newborns and feeling overwhelmed by our love for them. But we also had many fears about raising our children in a world that is so broken and full of dangers. We want our kids to be strong, brave, and emotionally prepared to face the world. But how can we raise kids who will be strong and resilient when we still know we have areas to grow as parents? To help us answer this question and more, we are excited to welcome Lauren Gaines to the podcast.Lauren is an author, speaker, teacher, and mother. She is the creator of Inspired Motherhood, a thriving online community for moms to find practical tools to raise spiritually and emotionally healthy kids. Here's what parents can do to help their kids build a strong foundation for mental wellness.
Kids crave structure, discipline, and guidance but too many parents aren't willing to do what it takes to give it to them. Matt Sharp, the co-founder of KidStrong, an organization that helps kids improve physical and mental fitness, is helping shape thousands of kids to grow more confident and strong so they will be prepared for whatever life throws their way.
Episode 2136 - On this Friday's show, Vinnie Tortorich and fellow pro-trainer Fred Hahn chat about life experience as a trainer, the benefits of weight training, "the slow burn", health for kids, and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/2022/07/slow-burn-fred-hahn-episode-2136 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS WEIGHT TRAINING Vinnie welcomes pro-fitness trainer and author Fred Hahn to the show and they mention their shared connection to Billionaire Don Coddington.(2:00) Vinnie and Fred exchange stories of their early interest in fitness and weight training. (4:18) They also chat about a lot of early experiences and influences; as a result, they talk about certain weight lifters over the years using drugs, vs. using a natural approach. (6:35) So many huge weightlifters are dying because of the substances they have been using. (13:30) Fred's approach to training his clients is to get the most effective strength-building workout in the shortest, most reasonable time. (16:15) Vinnie asks Fred about the fitness and nutrition book that he wrote for kids, "Strong Kids, Healthy Kids" (2008); Fred explains his inspiration for the book--he basically got tired of leaders teaching the wrong thing. (23:12) They continue discussing kids' health, fitness, obesity, and what the best thing is to do to combat it. (29:15) They chat about how several leaders in the country were trying to advocate for better health in schools, but then got diverted; both Vinnie and Fred suspect it has to do with Big Food interests. (32:15) THE SLOW BURN Vinne and Fred then switch gears in the conversation to Fred's book "The Slow Burn Fitness Revolution," (2002). (43:32) Fred gives his background in getting introduced to Nautilus machines; Vinnie joins in with his experiences with Nautilus workouts. (44:00) Both Fred and Vinnie give a rundown of what their workouts look like. (49:40) The conversation then leads to the great Jack Lalanne and other health and fitness role models. (58:10) Both men agree it's important to keep reading and learning and to stay curious and questioning. When a parent is present, emotionally healthy, and involved in his child's life, the child has a tremendous advantage in the world to navigate its complexities and challenges with joy and confidence. In today's episode of the Dad Tired podcast, host Jerrad Lopes sits down with author and counselor David Thomas (LMSW) to talk about what it looks like to raise emotionally healthy children.
The Downtown YMCA hosts the show to highlight the Strong Kids program as Kathryn Andruch, coordinator of Saturday Strikers, and John Alt, father of Ethan Alt, discuss the bowling program for mentally or physically disadvantaged residents, then board member Grant Franklin and Development Director Lynn Eck discuss volunteering. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The show returns to the Downtown YMCA as member Christy Nolan and her daughter Ryelynne talk about receiving a Strong Kids scholarship (and Ryelynne turns a stellar cartwheel), and the Y's media and marketing coordinator, Lou Bart, discusses the Stride program that develops boys into runners. If you're into Kripsy Kreme's you'll love this conversation because we talk about DONUTS a LOT… Although this time its in the context of the reslience donut - a model that Lyn Worsley - the founder of the Resilience Centre developed. Lyn Worsely is a Clinical Psychologist and Registered Nurse with vast experience in teaching, youth work, early childhood, hospitals and correctional services. She is also the author of “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Kids” and “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Adults”. Lyn's Specialty Areas Include: Adolescent Depression Child Anxiety Child Behavioural Assessments Family Crisis Work Post Natal Depression ADHD, and ADD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Panic Disorders This is a conversation about the power of community… the power of people… and a real correction in our thinking that disassociation, substance use and addiction are not character flaws and a lack of resilience - but actually very much needed players for some of us, in the resilience dynamic. THE MAJOR TAKE HOME HERE IS… RELATIONSHIPS RELATIONSHIPS RELATIONSHIPS. In this chat we can see HOW CRITICAL COMMUNITY is - how we can become part of someone else's' resilience story… and how vital it is that adults are given the opportunity to become emotionally skilled… if the next generation is to stand a chance in this rapidly changing, not yet post-pandemic world - which is CREAKING under the pressure of technology's impact on social dynamics.

This is a far ranging, passionate discussion that you are sure to enjoy. We explore topics like free range kids, stranger danger, overprotecting. How to empathize and empower not only our kids but also adults. How to become stronger in the face of the storm. This is a discussion we all need right now. Show notes: I believe in humans. I'm rooting for all of us to make it. I've come to appreciate that despite our innumerable differences, we all want to be treated with dignity and kindness. We all yearn to know that we matter. We all want to be seen, accepted, and loved simply as we are. I'm interested in what gets in the way. Sometimes the obstacle begins within: our ego, fear, and shame can eat at us and make it difficult for us to be kind even to ourselves let alone to others. Each of us is also implicitly biased in favor of and against groups of humans based upon our upbringing, lived experiences, and the ideas to which we have been exposed. And over the decades and centuries of our modern existence, we've built societal mores, rules, policies, structures, and systems that preference some while demeaning or excluding others. There is so much work to do, at all levels, to build a human community in which we all matter. I want to do my small part. As someone who has the privilege of writing and publishing books, I've decided that the twin practices endemic in American publishing of describing characteristics of race, class, sexual orientation, and other identities only when deemed “the other,” and of assuming that all readers belong to a particular demographic group are no longer tolerable. I'm using my newest book Your Turn: How to Be an Adult to demonstrate that we can, and must, write inclusive books. You can read about how I've attempted to do that, here. It's up to you and me to treat all humans with dignity and kindness and to inspire others to do the same. We can do this. It's well past time.
