In this episode of Doc Talks, Doc Brian sits down with Meggan Hill-McQueeney. Meggan is the current President and COO of BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center. In August 1993, while waiting to be discharged from the hospital after what she thought was a routine surgery, Marge Tautkus Gunnar learned that she had ovarian cancer. The ensuing months of chemotherapy were long, difficult, and completely life altering. During the course of her treatment, Marge not only derived courage and strength from the love and devotion of family and friends, but also from the deep and soulful connection she had to her Lipizzan stallion, Neapolitano IV Farica (Max). “One day when feeling particularly depressed, my sister bundled me into the car and we headed to the barn. When I entered Max's stall, he looked at me with large soft eyes that seemed to question ‘Where have you been?' I threw my arms around his neck, buried my face in his mane and sobbed. Max wrapped his neck around me and squeezed. I felt that connection between us was so powerful, I knew that Max was one of the reasons I had to get well. She recalls her childhood as being very strict, having to take care of her siblings.   At 14, she finds out her adoptive mother is giving her back and returning her into the foster care system. Her TikTok went viral and is now sitting at a little over 3.5 million views. Caleb is a twenty-five-year-old with Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. He is completely bound to his bed without the use of his feet, legs, arms, or legs. Due to the weakening of his lungs, he has to wear a BiPAP oxygen machine twenty-four hours a day.   His grandmother is his full-time caregiver. With each explosion, a shockwave pierced his body. "The vibrations from it can separate your soft tissues," he explained. After every one, he went back out. "If you weren't bleeding," he said, "if you weren't missing a limb, you got up and went out. A headache and dizzy, you got over it and you did your job."…    "I overdosed on heroine," he admitted. The purple heart and valor-decorated Army veteran had had enough. "I was lost. That's the only way I know how to explain it."   After his suicide attempt Mikel looked for a place to make a difference in the world. That's when he founded We Are The 22, W.A.T. for short. Lexi, originally from Northeast Arkansas, lived a seeming normal life with a mom who had an undiagnosed mental health condition which led to a lot of anxiety. Once in college she began to use Xanax and Adderall. She was arrested and kicked out of school after a suicide attempt. On this special Memorial Day release of Doc Talks, Doc Brian sits down with Micah Briley, Gold Star brother of CWO Donovan Briley. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Donovan Briley’s nickname was “Bull.” On October 3, 1993, Bull was the co-pilot of the lead Black Hawk in the United States’ mission to Mogadishu to snatch two Somali military leaders. Mr. Briley and his pilot, Cliff “Elvis” Wolcott, had safely flown Super-Six-One into the city. But they never left. Somali fighters knocked them out of the sky with a rocket-propelled grenade. Mr. Briley and Mr. Wolcott died instantly in the crash. When Donovan drew the assignment for Somalia, he and his family were living at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he was a Black Hawk pilot with the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), better known as Night Stalkers. Micah tells of growing up with his brother in a military family and how all four boys were third-generation military members.
