One question emerging from the presidential election exit polls is the disconnect between Black men and women and Hispanic men and women. Donald Trump received support from 21 percent of Black men and 7 percent of Black women, a disparity of 14 points. He got support from 54 percent of Hispanic men and 39 percent of Hispanic women, a disparity of 15 points. There was also a disparity in Trump's support among white men and women, but much smaller — 7 points. So why is Trump having far greater success among Black and Hispanic men than Black and Hispanic women?...Article Link

What are you waiting for? This week, I invited three amazing clients to the podcast to share their amazing journeys of self-discovery. They all knew that they needed to make a change, but they didn't know how to do it or where to start. That was until they decided to get out of their own way and just start. Sunkin Duarte is a Mexican American, daughter of two immigrants from Michoacán, Mexico, who was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a multi-passionate woman who considers herself a spiritual empath and yogi, a trailblazing scholar and professional, and finally, a humanitarian who cares deeply about the BIPOC communities. Growing up, Sunkin was very academically focused, earning two full-ride scholarships to obtain her three degrees, and then in more recent years, breaking into the international development and humanitarian affairs field. Now, Sunkin spends her time giving back to her community through the Latinas in Progress Program of Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and her newly created business, Sunkin Yoga, a lifestyle and wellness coaching business. Her goal is to uplift BIPOC communities to live their most authentic, aligned, and empowered lives by practicing mindfulness, doing self-introspection work, and integrating healthy practices into their daily routines. Jacqueline Torres is a wife, mother of four, RN turned real estate developer. After a hard year of financial uncertainty and having a new baby, she knew that she had to find a way to supplement their income. From Airbnbs to attending events, reading books, networking dinners, and listening to endless podcasts, she decided to take action, trust and believe in herself, and take a chance on new developments. Jacqueline partnered up with the right people, raised private money, and broke ground on her first new build! Erika Padilla is a Mexican immigrant, a single mom of two, and the oldest of five children. She immigrated to the US when she was only nine years old and her world as she knew it turned upside down. She came to a new country without knowing any English and carried a whole lot of fear. She quickly became the kid who got picked on because she didn't understand anything. That just made me stronger and ever since I have seen everything as a challenge instead of a problem. She became a young mom at 23 who only found out she was pregnant three months before the baby arrived. Erika knew she had to give her child a better life, one away from addiction and money issues, so she moved in with the father's family. She made it work with her children's father for sixteen years before she decided it was time to leave him and start fresh. She is now working on a new chapter in her life, one filled with resilience and self-confidence. In this week's episode, these three amazing women share how they got out of their own way and started creating the dream lives they knew they deserved. With the support of the Courage Driven Latina Program, each and every one of them are leaving toxicity behind. Whether that be toxic jobs or toxic situations, they are moving on to something better. There is power that comes from privilege and position and there is power that communities who have been excluded from decision making tables, claim. It is built over time with a commitment to meeting needs, creating personal bonds, and deepening community connections. This is the origin story of MANA, the oldest and largest Hispanic Women's nonprofit organization in the nation. Amy Hinojosa, MANA's dynamic, and inspiring CEO knows that her influence in the halls of Congress and in the White House is powered by MANA's impressive footprint of on-the-ground Latina-led chapters and affiliates. On this episode of Power Station, Amy talks about MANA's impactful initiatives, including Hermanitas, the only mentoring program in the nation created by Latinas for Latinas. It has been, most recently, a critical lifeline for middle and high school girls navigating mental health challenges spurred by isolation and social media during the pandemic. Over time it has generated thousands of Latina change makers, from educators to public officials and community leaders. It is no surprise that as MANA prepares to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the festivities will include a get-out-the vote rally. This is a beautiful lesson in how lasting change is made.

Members of the Hispanic women's ministry at The Salvation Army in Middletown, N.Y., have been enjoying weekly Zumba classes for the past year. The Hispanic women's ministry, led by Enid Ortiz, has offered several activities for members, including bingo, crafts, and jewelry-making, as everyone engages in Christian fellowship. When Orlando Torres, a community health outreach coordinator for Orange County, N.Y., and a licensed Zumba instructor, offered to teach it at the corps more than a year ago, the women kicked up their heels for the idea. Zumba is a Latin-inspired fitness dance program. But in this class, Orlando incorporates different aspects of prayer and worship. The church pastor, Captain Andrew Allen said About 75% to 80% of the people coming to the corps for social services speak Spanish and are invited to Zumba. People may come to the corps for social services, but the church tries to connect everyone they can to experience meaningful Christian fellowship. Captain Allen said “We have seen a big crossover from social services to getting involved in the Hispanic women's ministries program. Many women who come to that program also volunteer at the corps during the day to help with food pantry and things like that.”

“Not only seek mentors, but also seek sponsors. A sponsor is somebody that is a decision maker that will raise a hand...while you are not at the table, who will fight for a raise for you, who will fight for a change in job title for you.” – Adriana Varela, Global Immigration Attorney In this episode, global immigration attorney Adriana Varela describes her Latina identity and relocating from Mexico to the US as an adult. She describes how these experiences inform her servant leader approach to serving multicultural employees and their families in the sometimes-challenging world of international assignment relocations. Adriana talks more about servant leadership and her journey from volunteering with little experience to ultimately being invited to lead as Chair of the Board of Directors of New American Pathways, an Atlanta nonprofit with the mission of helping refugees thrive. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of GALEO, a nonprofit with the mission of increasing civic engagement within the Georgia Latino community. Adriana provides some words of wisdom to Latinas in the South: get involved. In this podcast, we visit with Vanessa Madrid and Carina Powers, both born and raised California girls. But today's California is not what it used to be. From out of control homelessness, to the crazy, anti-family policies of the Democrats, to $5 gasoline, life in California is tough, takes multiple jobs to keep up with rising costs, and their schools are not educating. Instead, they are indoctrinating and teaching sexual education in elementary school. It is a battle, but Vanessa and Carina give real insight into what it will take to save California. #YaNoMas #voteDEMout #TurningCaliforniaRed

According to Mic.com and Newsone.com approximately 64,000 black girls and women are missing in the united states. Where are they? Who are they? What is Law Enforcements theory on their disappearances? Where is the media? Where are all these people? How can so many people be missing in a country where video cameras are everywhere. Can you name 5 missing Black Women, Hispanic Women or Poor Women of any race? Probably not, unless you’re a family member. Don’t feel alone, the media can’t either. There doesn’t seem to be a big push to find these women, why not? When Natalie Holloway disappeared on May 30, 2005 in Aruba while on a class trip. Media coverage was nonstop for over 2 years. According to Statista Numbers: Provided by NCIC for 2018 Missing White People 362,988 and Missing Black People 207, 394 Of the reported missing persons 211,906 were men and 239,847 are women Because the media simply does not report on missing black women frustration rose within the black community the sense that these cases were being ignored seemed like another example of "missing white woman syndrome" — a phrase coined by Gwen Ifill, the late PBS anchor. Missing white woman syndrome is a phenomenon noted by social scientists and media commentators of the extensive media coverage, especially in television, of missing person cases involving young, white, upper-middle-class women or girls. This Saturday, July 13th on Behind the Blue Curtain we’ll talk about this phenomenon. The call-in number is 646-716-4621 and press 1 on your phone if you’d like to add to the discussion. On Fronteras-- Latinas are less likely to develop breast cancer than other ethnic groups. Now researchers think they know why. A new study shows a genetic variant may protect some Hispanic women from developing breast cancer. The largest immigrant detention facility in the country is under construction in South Texas. What’s unusual, though, is how the government bypassed the regular bidding process, giving the contract to a small Arizona town. We’ll also hear about a study of Texas mountain lions, one where researchers had to get permission from private landowners to proceed. And we’ll take a look at how altars are connecting people to those loved and lost, over the Day of the Dead events.
