What does the resurrection of Jesus Christ prove? This life will end and there is something out there, something beyond the grave. In Romans 1:19-20, God tells us He made Himself known, evident – His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen and understood through creation. There is a God-consciousness in every person. The Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) is that Christ died for our sins; He was buried and was raised the third day, according to the Scriptures. He appeared -- He's alive and will come again. The resurrection of Jesus Christ proves that His sacrifice was acceptable by God (Colossians 2:14), sin was nailed to the cross. The resurrection of Jesus Christ proves that life after death is true -- there is life beyond the grave. Jesus said He is the resurrection and the life; if you believe in Jesus, you will live even if you die (John 11:25). We will die, then what? The resurrection of Jesus Christ proves that there is a resurrection for all people – a resurrection unto eternal life -- or – a resurrection unto eternal death. In 1 Peter 1:3 – God caused us to be born to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This living hope should be so real and evident to others, always ready to give an account for the hope that is in you (1 Peter 3:15). My hope is not in the economy, my good deeds, my hair, my family, or anything. Either you believe or you don't; If you believe, then you forsake, repent, follow Him. Passages Discussed: Romans 1:19-20, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Colossians 2:14, John 11:25, 1 Peter 1:3, 1 Peter 3:15 What Does the Resurrection of Jesus Christ Prove? | 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 | Bro. What happens after the new birth? We live in an age of easy believe-ism, cheap grace, religious experience; where there is no biblical proof to say someone is a Christian. It's not attendance, not baptism; Matthew 7:23 Jesus says “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.” There are many who believe they are a Christian, but most are not. Do not be like Esau (Hebrews 12:15-17) immoral, godless, who refused to repent though he sought for it with tears. To come short of the grace of God means that you are not saved, not going to heaven. The cultural Christian moves from the objective (Word of God) to the subjective (“I think …”). The objective is sure and steadfast; what does the Bible have to say? 2 Corinthians 13:5 – take the self-diagnostic test - lest you fail the test, to see if you are in the faith, if Christ be in you. There is one way we know we are His – if we keep His commandments, if we desire to do His will (John 14:15). 2 Corinthians 5:17 says the believer is a new creature; God did something new that was not there before – on the inside of a true believer. God did it though Christ – if you are a new creature, you are radically changed. Are you really a Christian or are you just playing? If you are really a Christian, there is an impact, there are effects of salvation. Don't be self-deceived. God rejected Esau because there was no place for repentance – even though he prayed, begged, wept for it. Ephesians 5:6-8 – let no one deceive you with empty words. Formerly you were darkness (depraved, lost, dead, self-righteous, darkest because you saw no need); now you are light (redeemed, regenerated new creature). Matthew 5:16 says let your light shine and reveal the effects and impact of the Gospel in your life. Passages Discussed: Hebrews 12:15-17, Matthew 7:23, 2 Corinthians 13:5, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 14:15 The Effects of the New Birth | Hebrews 12:15-17 | Bro. There are people today who say they are believers but there is no effect in their life that a new birth has occurred. They are shallow professors but not possessors – not true believers. The church needs more true believers. 1 Peter 2:22 You can get cleaned up on the outside, but what's on the inside reveals itself. People like what Christ offers, but are not willing to deny self and take up their cross. 1 John 2:19, says they were not really of us. People don't like discipline or to be convicted, challenged with the truthfulness of the Word of God. Instead, they will go find a church that gives approval to their sinful actions. God makes it very clear in His word what is right. People like to be affirmed in their sin, not confronted. Not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord” will enter Heaven. Jesus said, “Depart from Me. I never knew you, who practice lawlessness.” Just because someone says or claims or is a member, it does not equate to salvation. The wages of sin is eternal death(hell). 1 Cor.6:9 – do you not know? The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not be deceived. If the lifestyle is contrary to the Biblical standard, there is no rebirth. The person is not a true believer. John 3 tells us of the necessity of salvation. Hebrews 2,3,4 tells of the urgency of salvation. Does salvation effect the person? YES! In 2 Cor 5:17, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. The Greek word means to make or create something which has not existed before, the new birth is the handiwork of God Himself. As in Matthew 13, the seed which lands in the fertile soil will bear fruit. There will be evidence of salvation. The Effects of the New Birth | 2 Corinthians 5:6-21 | Bro. Jesus came to those “in need of a physician.” They knew they were in need. The self-righteous are in eminent danger of an eternity filled with torment. Hebrews 2:3 – How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? Hebrews 3:7 – today if you hear His voice. Hebrews 3:13, 3:15, 4:7 – Today! We must respond today. There is an urgency. 1 Kings 18:21 – how long will you hesitate? Some people “play” at church – they do not have a real love for the Lord, a trust and obedience. Today – what is so important about today? (1) There is no guarantee of tomorrow. Death can come suddenly and without warning. There was recently a local man who, just minutes after he went forward to accept Christ, he went back to his seat and fell down, dead. For him, there was just four minutes between heaven and hell. (2) There is no guarantee of another opportunity. There is no guarantee you'll ever hear God's voice again – that convicting presence of the Holy Spirit where we are confronted with our own sinfulness. If you hear – come, repent, believe. There is no escape, no other Savior. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. There is only one gate, one door; it is straight, narrow, and few find it. To not respond – is a decision. Every time you say no to God's mercy, it is easier to say “no” the next time. Hebrews 3:8, do not harden your heart. Do not be like Esau, Hebrews 12:15-17, an immoral man, who sought for salvation with tears, but he had no repentance. To the church – do we sense an urgency or are we willing to let the world around us “go to hell in a hand basket” -- that's exactly what our lackadaisical honoring of Christ and living for Christ amounts to. 1 Peter 3:15 – sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks, with gentleness and reverence. It's all about submission; make known the truths of scripture. Today, don't harden your heart. Say yes and come in faith in repentance - today. Unfortunately, many people in the church today have the mistaken idea that being like the world is the way to reach the world. They forget that the church is the people of God, a very special people, saved by His grace. Instead of maintaining separation (2 Cor. 6:14–7:1) they promote imitation (1 John 2:15–17; Rom. 12:2), so that it's becoming more and more difficult to distinguish the people of God from the people of the world. And yet, as Campbell Morgan reminded us, “The church did the most for the world when the church was the least like the world.” Colossians: The Writer, The Readers, The Greeting | Colossians 1:1-2; Acts 9:1-20; 2 Timothy 3:10 | Bro. It is extremely important that if you hear the voice of God, you do not say no – hearing the voice of God means being convicted by the Holy Spirit through the preaching and reading of the word that you need Christ, you need forgiveness, you are the sinner, you have sinned against God, and that you are at enmity with God because of your sin. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not here. We have today. Death is coming, we just don't know when; there is no guarantee of tomorrow. There is something more pressing than physical death – all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Every human has the sentence of death. Salvation isn't just head knowledge. James says even the demons believe and shudder. In Hebrews 3:7, as the Holy Spirit says; the writer of Hebrews regarded Scripture as being the voice of God. 2 Tim 3:16 says all Scripture is God-breathed. 1 & 2 Timothy states men wrote as God moved and led. We must trust and obey. Hebrews 3:7 as Holy Spirit says – those who are now reading or hearing the word TODAY, this is God's word. God is speaking of salvation, repentance and belief. In Hebrews 3:13 and 3:15 and 4:7 it is pressing -- TODAY. The urgency is not impending (physical) death but the condition of your heart. It is hardened if you say no and tomorrow it will be a little further hardened and even easier to say no. What is your choice TODAY? Being born again is not optional – it is a necessity. Jesus says unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God, unless one is born of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God, and He says, “You must be born again.” (John 3:3,5,7). To be born again means to be redeemed, saved, regenerated, something must transpire. There is something that takes place when you are saved – the transaction. Christ took our place (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ became a curse for us; Christ redeemed us from condemnation (Galatians 3:13). Salvation is not about being a church member or being baptized. Christ died for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18) and teach us how not to continue in a sinful lifestyle (1 John 2:1-3). We were dead in our transgressions, but God made us alive together with Christ; He forgave us all our transgressions and cancelled out the decree of death against us and nailed it to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14). There is a transaction that happens when you are redeemed, regenerated, born again. It has taken place in eternity past, it took place at the cross, and it became effective when you came to faith in Christ. That's the transaction when you are born again. That's the transaction that takes place in the heart and life. When we are saved, born again, there is also a transformation. When we have heard and believed, we are sealed and God takes up residence in us (Ephesians 1:13), the Spirit dwells in us (Romans 8:9), we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and slaves of righteousness (Romans 6:16-22). We still have the capacity to sin, but we have gained the capacity to obey. We have eyes to see, ears to hear, and the Holy Spirit teaches us through God's word (1 John 2:27-29). The transaction is followed by the transformation. The one who keeps His commandments abides in Christ, and Christ in him (1 John 3:24). Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ loves the Father, loves the Son, loves the children of God, and we observe His commandments (1 John 5:1-2). Are you truly saved? Then the transaction and transformation and the Lord continuing to teach you are real and evident in your life (1 Thessalonians 4:1-5,9). The new birth is not just living out new ideals. It is not just turning over a new leaf. It is the inception of a new life. It is a miracle, it is radical, revolutionary, and lasting. It is making sheep out of goats. There is a new creation with a new heart. A lot of people think they are going to heaven just because they went down front, got baptized, go to church, etc. In John 8:31-34 they thought they were going to heaven simply because they are Jews, the Pharisees because they were most religious. However, if you are a Christian, your conduct would show it. 1 John 5 – Jesus says keep My commandments. John 8:44-51, you do the desires of your father. Romans 6-8 say it plainly, you are either a slave of sin or a slave of righteousness. In John 19:39, Nicodemus, a teacher of Israel, sought out Jesus in secret. He acknowledged that Jesus was from God with God's authority, but he was not believing unto salvation. Jesus said it plainly, (John 3:3-6) UNLESS one is born again, UNLESS one is born of water and the Spirit, YOU MUST be born again. The new birth is not produced by man. It does not originate with man. It is not initiated by man. John 1:12-13 God causes us to be born again. James 1:18, “in the exercise of His will, He brought us forth.” 2 Corinthians 5:9 – if you are in Christ, you have been born again, a distinct creature from who you were. Ephesians 2:4-7 – salvation is a work of God. 1 Peter 1:3 – according to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again. An emotional response is not the rebirth. How can you be delivered from bondage of sin and then continue in it? You can't! God does not leave us in our ungodly sinful lifestyles. God says clearly in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Being born again does not mean we lose our capacity to sin; it does mean we have gained the capacity to love Christ, obey Him, and overcome sin. Jesus said you must be born again. Regardless of whether we call it health issues, pro-choice, or whatever, abortion is the shedding of innocent blood; it is murder. God's word says life begins at conception. There is a one cell entity that is alive and independent inside the mother. This new human zygote is unique… everything is there from conception: male or female, the color of eyes, etc. The Bible uses the same word for baby in the womb and out of the womb (after being born). Romans 1 reveals the sexual revolution (v.24), the homosexual revolution (v.26), then the depraved mind (v.28) that can't differentiate between right and wrong (v.29-32). God says we are all worthy of death; all have sin and the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life. Only by grace, believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, is heaven our home. Grace is amazing, marvelous, grace pardons and forgives. Do you know Him? Abortion is a paramount issue – vote pro-life; we give approval by what we vote for. These days we hear about abortion under the guise of women's healthcare. We need to know what is taking place. Abortion is a barbaric practice that is wrong; it is murder. Life begins at conception. Just because abortion is legal does not make it right. Romans 1 – how we got here – God made Himself evident. We did not evolve; we were created in the image of God. When men exchanged the truth for a lie, God gave them over to impurity, degrading passions, and a reprobate mind. God makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. He reminds us, “such were some of you.” Confess and repent of your sin, accept Jesus Christ's forgiveness, grace and mercy. Circumcision points to a righteousness which comes though faith; it is a symbol of faith in God and a loyalty to God. Why did God command Joshua to circumcise all Israel? God wants obedience and is concerned about the heart of people. Did they trust God to lead, protect, and give the land to them, to fulfill His promises? Joshua had no doubt; he knew their obedience was their security and protection. Under his leadership, God led Israel to victory. How can we apply the example of Joshua? Obedience may cost job, reputation, relationship, but will we stand strong? God will enable us. Trust God and receive the Spirit (spiritual circumcision). Ask God to circumcise your heart if you are not saved. For those of us who are saved, continue to stand strong and follow in the footsteps of Joshua and Abraham. Believers will be hated, hounded, given over (Matt.10:22). Many will fall away, but true faith endures. Endurance doesn't bring about salvation; salvation produces endurance. Who endures? Those who continue in the Word (John 8:31). Those who submit to Christ, are bound to Him, and continue in the faith. They overcame because they did not love their life even unto death (Rev.12:11). What will it be like before Jesus returns to set up His earthly kingdom? The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Many false prophets will arise and mislead many (Matthew 24:6). Most people's love will grow cold. Lawlessness will increase (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, 6-8). The spirit of lawlessness is at work now, but is restrained by God. As lawlessness increases, love decreases. The hallmark of a Christian is to trust and obey (2 Thessalonians 3:1-16). A life of submission starts with Jesus becoming your Lord and Master. This is how you know you love Him, if you keep His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome (1 John 2:3-4, 3:22,24; 5:3). Are you saved? Are you ready? There will be a rise of false prophets and many will turn aside to myths (philosophies of man). John 16:8 tells about the ministry of the Holy Spirit to convict the world of sin. John 16:5 reminds us that the Holy Spirit will be with us and in us to remind us and strengthen us to be light in the dark. This world is not spinning out of control. The disciples came to Jesus privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” Jesus tell us the darkness hates the light because light exposes their deeds, lawlessness. Persecution and trials will come; many will fall away. Persecution has a way of weeding out, revealing false believers. It is truly comforting to study this pastoral letter, by God through the writing of Paul, that explains the benefit believers receive through the grace of God who is faithful and cannot lie (2 Tim 2:13). God's children should expect good from Him as He promised to strengthen and establish them in their sanctification. Furthermore, believers are encouraged by God's people in prayer and fellowship, understanding that it is God who holds them up and He who prevents them from falling (Ps 17:5). Lastly, Christians are compelled to take refuge in God, like David (Ps 16:1), who become fixed on the everlasting hope and confidence in the Lord in His promises to protect from evil in the face of real persecution. | Pathfinder Fellowship Group | October 31, 2021

We see this in the Thessalonian believers and others recorded in Scripture. Believers are to encourage and build each other up to do the same. We don't doze in spiritual sloth and indifference like those still in darkness.
