No Excuses // Overcoming the Temptation to Disobey (Pt. 3) | Jared Douglas
When you want to confront someone about an issue, you better have some authority or you'll get laughed at to your face! In the episode of Andy Griffith where Barney confronts the two men for selling fruits and vegetables on the side of the road without a permit, they threaten to beat him up. Barney leaves because of fear but comes back to confront them pointing out that his badge represents a higher authority and they better obey it or pay the consequences. Paul tells the church at Galatia, “My authority doesn't come from any man but from Jesus himself and it is in your best interest to obey the gospel I preached to you and not some false gospel some slick talking person is speaking. If not, you'll pay the consequences.” This message we carry and share, the gospel, has our back because Jesus is our authority!
God wants us to obey Him. Bible Engagement Obeying God and Denying Self Serving God and Others Sharing Christ Exercising Faith Seeking God Building Relationships Unashamed (Transparency) ⅓ We Want Control (Build In) It's Fun (Build In) I wanna do hoodrat stuff with my friends We Think We Know Better (Build In) We Think Our Way Is Faster (Build In) Obeying God is only easy when a person's own desires match God's. Obeying God is only easy when a person's own timing matches God's. John 14:15 // “If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:23 // “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching…” Those who want to be mature in Christ have a desire to obey Him. Our way is to disobey, but God's way is a way of obedience. 1 Samuel 15:2-3 // “...This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'” Obedience is an Opportunity 1 Samuel 15:3 // Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'” Time doesn't diminish sin in the sight of God. Acts 13:22 // After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.' Obedience is an opportunity to align with God. Begin to view every act of obedience as an opportunity to align more closely with God. Obedience is 100% 1 Samuel 15:20-21 // “But I did obey the Lord,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the Lord assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king. The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God at Gilgal.” 1 Samuel 15:22 // But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. Worship is good, but obedience is better. Anything less than full obedience misses the mark of God's calling for our lives. Delayed and/or incomplete obedience is disobedience. Begin to actually do what God has called you to wholeheartedly and completely. Obedience is a matter of the Heart 1 Samuel 15:11 // “I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night. 1 Samuel 15:35 // Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel. Obedience isn't just about our outward actions; it's about the inward condition of our heart. Begin to keep a close check on your heart. What is it that God has called you to do?

Send us a textBut He would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you. Psalm 81:16With this first episode of 2025, we are looking at this concept of honey from the rock: an idea which comes to us from Psalm 81. We see that honey signifies God's abundant blessings upon our lives. From the Psalm we also see that in order to truly taste of these blessings, God desires obedience from us. Finally, the phrase "honey from the rock" truly points us to Jesus; that He is the Rock and honey is the grace and salvation imparted to us by Him. This entire concept is eye-opening and something that can and should transform our faith. It's a great place to start out the New Year: considering how we can taste the honey that God has for us this year and ultimately pursue Him more deeply.

“To my knowledge, I am the first Soldier in the world to make a public stand refusing compulsory masking,” writes Dr. Philip Buckler, a dentist in the US Army holding the rank of Major. Drawing on extensive research from Dr. Paul E. Alexander, Dr. Buckler published his findings about the ineffectiveness of masks for a respiratory pandemic in “The Book on Masks“. In January 2022, MAJ Buckler informed his commanding officer in the US Army that he would “cease wearing a mask and refuse all orders to wear one” due to sincerely-held religious beliefs – specifically that by wearing a mask for COVID-19 that he knew could not prevent infection, he would be violating the Commandment against lying and complicit in a “performative religion” of Public Health. Alexander holds a PhD and has graduate level training in epidemiology and work experience in epidemiology, teaching of clinical epidemiology, evidence-based medicine, and research methodology. Everstory Shorts celebrate the little stories that often slide under the radar. These are the stories that collect over time from around the congregation -- begging to be told.In today's short , I share my own story about dealing with fear, how I finally disobeyed it, and how you can, too!“You have a choice. Choose to be conquered by fear – haunted by it. Or be liberated by faith. Psalm 119 says that “in my distress, I prayed.” You see, faith doesn't, in and of itself, create lack of fear. No, faith taps into your ability to face them. Fear is the enemy. Disobey it. You cannot fully follow God, if you're worried about pursuing your fear. You can't have both in your life.” Find us on Facebook or Instagram to learn more! Want to share your story? Send us an email to stories@doxology.church

In our today's teaching (while continuing in the book of James of our "Faith & Action" series) Pastor Ben talks about the battle of the christens walk in day to day life with God. When a believer walk out of the will of god the believer becomes a trouble maker and not a peace maker. There for we need to plan as if Jesus is coming back and walk in the way that has been set for us in scripture. So lets dive in the word and find the will of God for us! *Three types of way that a believer handles the will of God: 1. ignore God's will 2. disobey God's will 3. obeying God's will *Q: " which of these attitudes do we have?" As COVID-19 swept the globe in 2020, civil authorities around the world issued lockdowns and social distancing edicts which, in effect, forbade churches to gather for corporate worship. Many pastors and church leaders caved to the pressure, opting for exclusively online services, while others scrambled to formulate a biblical response that upheld God's command to Christians to assemble as a body for worship. Once such pastor was Timothy Decker, who grappled with this key question: Does Romans 13 command Christians an unqualified obedience toward the civil magistrate? Decker's study led his church to a deeper understanding of this pivotal text, as they opened their doors during COVID. In this podcast, Scott Brown and Jason Dohm interview Decker about his new book, A Revolutionary Reading of Romans 13, in which Decker shares what he learned. Decker's contention is that biblical submission to earthly authorities—which is commanded by God—is always qualified. Even as a wife or child is not bound to obey an unlawful command by a husband or father, neither is the church bound to an unlawful edict by the state. Romans 13 teaches lawful subjection to the civil magistrate, Decker maintains, while at the same time affirming a Christian's duty to resist tyranny when the state violates God's prescriptive Word.
