Living in a post COVID world has made it harder for us to make friends. Arguable harder to make GODLY friends. Church on the Queensway invited Ruth and I to speak to the youth about how we navigated our Christ centered friendship and what we believe will lead to godly, long lasting friendships. So many things keep us from staying focused on the God given assignment in our lives. Our image, the busyness of life, our lack of discipline and the spirit of fear are just a few things that are keeping us astray. Let's begin to be honest with ourselves and fight to not let anything get in the way of us and God's will. Vanessa is a daughter of God, wife, mother and psychotherapist. God allowed us to have a divine encounter together a few months back at the Etre Conference in Montreal, Canada. Our God has given her an anointing and gifting that shines when she speaks. Her gentle spirit alongside her fierce boldness allows her to honestly share her life story of transformation by the Holy Spirit. "Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10. How often do we take the opportunity to be still? How many of us prioritize being still and contemplating who God is? As we live in our busy societies, we get lost in the desire to be productive which takes away from our need for rest. In rest, we are able to sit with the truths of who God is and participate in the joy of appreciating His creation. Rest and sabbath is a crucial part of who we are and how we were called to live our lives. However, we won't really prioritize it if we don't know what true rest is. In this episode we dive into the necessity of rest and why God made it a commandment, rather than a suggestion. In this episode, Nikki Brazas, a member of Crave Worship, joins us to talk about the ways God has moved in her heart and church within the past year. From moving to a big church that she grew up in to a small church basement - she had to take leaps of faith, trusting that God had it all in his hands. Sometimes taking that step of faith begins with humbling ourselves to know we don't know what's best for us. Give God the chance to prove your doubts, worries and fear wrong and step in faith to where He's leading you. God has already equipped us with his strength and protection to fight the battles we face. When we don't know what to do or where to go, God sustains us and gives us exactly what we need. But then why do we hide, seek out idols and lean on the temporary relief the world provides instead of Him? In this episode, we talk about the many ways we can internally and externally reject God as our protector. It's time to face the reality that we need to break down the walls and turn away from idols to fully trust to the authority of God. "Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine." 1 Samuel 17: 28-40 Support the On Water Podcast financially: https://buy.stripe.com/eVadUQeK99qG4Cc288 Follow the podcast on instagram @onwaterpodcast Hosted by Jin Choi | @kaleo.inc Produced by Jaymie Harris | @jaymieharris @creativeheartmedia
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22 Welcome to SEASON TWO of the On Water Podcast. We are going to take the commitments we have made to the Lord and actually put them to action. Following God and putting faith in Him is not an idea but a command! Let's do this. Sometimes when we feel conviction from the Holy Spirit, we get discouraged and condemned. However, "the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son (Hebrews 12:6). In this episode, I go through the different ways God has been convicting me through the passages in Romans 12. Transformation and renewal of the mind doesn't just happen. It occurs when we obey the uncomfortable convictions of the Holy Spirit. There are no "bad" Christians, just disobedient ones who don't turn back to the Lord. There are no lessons. No answers. Just vulnerability. That's the podcast. Thank you everyone for tuning into S1 of the On Water Podcast! We will be back in January 2024 with some fresh, exciting content! Even if we acknowledge and understand where our pain comes from, healing from it is a completely different ball game. In this week's episode, we talk all about mental healing and what that looks like as Christians. How can the church play a role in supporting people in their mental health journey? How can we intersect the world of faith and psychology? How can we go from being broken, shattered people to being whole - walking in the flourishing God desires for us? As someone who is in the mental health field while also wrestling with depression, this is a question I've thought about a lot. We lose the call for us to serve the marginalized when our Christian walk is focused on self-righteousness. Jesus spent most of his days showing love to those who were rejected by community. When did we start forget this key part of being like Jesus? We welcome the first guest to the On Water Podcast: Ruth Altaye! She is a strong leader in and out of the church, spearheading conversations on social justice in her closest communities.
