This is an important show because it's something all families should discuss. But unfortunately, people don't like to talk about death. They don't want to talk about estate planning, and it's such a necessary conversation. Someone who knows that very well is my next guest, Kayla Smith Wood, with Allen Texas Attorneys.
Robert Crosby, PhD and Rev. Kayla Smith join us on today's episode. With a blend of three lenses–pastoral, research, and therapy–Reach Hurting Kids Institute provides helpful resources for churches to reframe the mindset when experiencing common behavioral challenges in children. There is a deeper opportunity for care. Listen in to hear how your team can “train your eyes to see something different.” Quotes The kids of our churches and communities need people who can respond well. You know what? I think we all need to hear a fun, cheerful, and uplifting story from time to time.In this week's episode, I interview a personal friend of mine, Kayla Smith. Kayla shares her story about traveling across Europe, but what makes this story so special is that Kayla was born and raised in rural Mississippi, where the idea of traveling outside the State, let alone the country, was unheard of! Where "people like her" never owned a passport!Kayla used her imagination and tenacity and did the unthinkable! She went from being a college grad, who never had a job or professional experience, to landing a job in ITALY! And she made that happen just through sheer determination and persistence! Kayla also recently quit her job to travel Europe full-time for 6+ months in 2022.This story is such a treat! Kayla's sweet, kindhearted nature is surely going to make your heart smile, and her determination will reignite that fire under your arse to go after whatever it is that you want, and make it happen for you!Episode highlights: How Kayla went from being fresh out of college, never having a job or professional experience 21- year old, to landing a job in ITALY!How having emotional support and encouragement from your family can be more important than financial support. How Kayla was stubborn about her goals but flexible with her methods! She kept her eye on the prize, regardless of the crazy obstacles that came in her way. How she healed her burnout and reconnected with what sets her Soul on fire through solo travel. Tips that she shared for women who desire to travel alone. (this is my favorite!) How she inspired her mother to also become a pattern breaker, rule breaker, and soul shaker, to get a passport, and join Kayla for parts of her European trip, creating "pinch me, is this freaking real!!" moments and memories with her mother. What does it mean to date in the Bronx? BXN Radio hosts Kayla Smith and Brandon Chacon dive into the uptown dating scene. Getting started with “The Grade”, Kayla discusses a failed app that evaluated people with a one line question and gave The Bronx an F grade! In no way a true reflection of the values of the Bronx community, we hear from a group of friends, known as Relationship Insurance for their hot take. This group holds one another accountable, honest and consists of Curt Saunders, Drew White, and Dondre “Bigheart” Green. They join in to discuss relationships, how the group started, and their points of view on dating. This episode covers who should be paying for the first date, and what it says about intention. Kayla and Brandon ask the Relationship Insurance crew to give their thoughts on cuffing season, when people start looking for those short-term partnerships to help pass the time for colder months. The group debates on when someone should be a valentine, and how much do you commit to someone when you first start off. By the end, everyone agrees on one thing however - that before all, self care is the real truth before committing to any relationship. “Our presence in a present”. Investing in ourselves and always being honest, will help us to prepare for investing in someone else.
