https://megashia.comBioBorn in Kansas City and raised in Los Angeles, Megashia Jackson is a comedian, musician, model, motivational speaker and mother of three who has overcome a multitude of challenges to become the woman she is today. At the tender age of four, a babysitter poured hot water on her as punishment for being too noisy. She received second and third degree burns over fifty percent of her body, was taken away from her mother, hospitalized and in recovery for over a year. When she was finally well enough to go to school, she was mercilessly teased about her burn scars. But she had two secret weapons: a mind of steel and laughter. After learning “fire breathing” techniques as a way to deal with her physical pain, Megashia wasn't affected by the hurtful taunts of her classmates. And when she realized that laughter was the best way to fight her bullies, she became the class clown and started to develop her gift for comedy.Megashia's grandmother owned a record store, and she was exposed to many genres of music there. She soon began to pursue her own musical interests, playing brass instruments in several school bands before settling on her true love – percussion. A career in music was put on hold when she had children and needed to do something more practical.Coming from a long line of beauticians, Megashia decided to go to cosmetology school. It turns out she also had a talent for making her clients look and feel beautiful, opening a thriving hair salon and creating a line of hair care products.Today Megashia's biggest goal is to inspire other women. She completed the leadership program at A New Way of Life, an organization helping formerly incarcerated women reconnect with their purpose. She is an ordained minister specializing in the Ministry of Music, using traditional African Drumming and healing principles to uplift and connect with women who are going through their own challenges. She composed and recorded jazz inspired songs for the First Woman's Church's Music Ministry and drummed for campaigns supporting immigrants' rights and prison reform. She is also an active participant in Toastmasters International, winning awards for her use of humor in her speeches. She enjoys speaking to young women about self-care and increasing self-esteem.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Why do we sing in church? Is congregational singing just a tradition, or is there something deeper happening when we lift our voices together in worship? And what makes a song truly singable for the whole church? In this episode, Jonathan and Laurie sit down with Luke Hill and Sean DeMars to discuss the power of singing in corporate worship. Luke shares his journey from American Idol to rediscovering the beauty of hymnody, while Sean unpacks why congregational singing is more than just an emotional experience. Whether you're a worship leader, a pastor, or someone who just loves to sing on Sundays, this conversation will help you think more deeply about how and why we sing as one church body.If you enjoyed this episode be sure to leave us a review on wherever you listen! Questions about whether it's okay to be part of a music ministry that's led by a professing Mormon, whether a woman should date a man who isn't as spiritual mature as she is or doesn't take his faith as seriously, and the misuse of Matthew 5:38–42 to manipulate others. Is it biblical for me to be part of a music ministry with a group of Christian women that is headed up by a professing Mormon? Should a woman date a man who isn't as spiritually mature as she is or doesn't take his faith as seriously as she does? How would you interpret Matthew 5:38–42 in the context of a friend who could be manipulating and taking advantage of you for resources?

Nancy Newton Bio Nancy was born in Houston, Texas, and was a Physical Therapist turned stay at home Mom who dabbled in her Catholic church Music Ministry for a time as she was raising her 3 children. When she returned to her job as a PT at the age of 46 after a 9-year hiatus, she began her long painful descent into the slow process of becoming addicted to alcohol. This descent included a resurgence of a food/exercise addiction that she had struggled with most of her life from the early teen years but was able to recover from when she found her way into the rooms of Overeaters Anonymous in her 30's, her first exposure to a 12-step program. This progressed in her 50's to more regular drinking, and by the time she was in her late 50's and early 60's, a full-on addiction to a daily intake of alcohol which often included a full bottle of wine or 2 very strong frozen margaritas from the local Mexican food restaurant, and perhaps some additional topping off to get through the day. She also relapsed into her binging/starving/overexercising addiction until she was 50+ pounds heavier and suffering from extreme depression, lack of motivation and the desire to socially isolate, inability to sleep and the need for increased anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medicines to cope. There were multiple attempts to quit alcohol and food abuse, trying therapy and even walking through the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous. These attempts were in vain until one day she discovered The Naked Mind book by Annie Grace. On August 4, 2022, she began her journey into sobriety. On the Naked Mind website she found the information that led her to the Thursday am early doors Sobertown Zoom meetings. (Thank you, Fluffy All Heart!!!) Getting out of isolation and reconnecting to others in those sessions allowed her to find the strength and courage to take the necessary steps to get sober. She now is 19 months sober and embarking on a new life after slowly beginning to implement the tools she found necessary to her sobriety. These tools include daily Yoga, meditation, inspirational music, reading, cardiovascular exercise, healthy eating, Sobertown Zoom meetings, and reestablishing or finding new ways to connect to others. These tools allow her to go through life more mindfully, cherishing the relationships between family and friends and understanding the real meaning and purpose for her life. In November, after a return home from a trip to Spain, she was painfully aware of her longstanding tendency to set goals and reach them while not at all being mindful or enjoying the process. It became a real source of frustration for her and the main topic of discussion in a therapy session. There, her therapist of many years, introduced her to Kirtana and the Deathbed song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1khh5AHacgU This one song began some new insights into how she would begin to make the necessary changes in the last quarter of her life so that she would not miss out on any of the “holy” moments that give life meaning for her: Connection to others, Courage to step out of her comfort zones, Calmness and moving more slowly through her day, and following through on all Commitments she makes to others. This has become a daily practice as she starts each day. She hopes that her story of her journey will inspire others to hang in there through the process of becoming sober. Change can be slow, and it is so important to look at this process as an unfolding of possibilities that will continue to move in a forward direction, if you commit to staying on the path. It is worth every bit of grit and determination that is required. Nancy is retired, and currently lives with her wonderful husband of 40 years in McKinney Texas. They discuss the importance of using good songs in our worship and how we can use songs with intentional lyrics and rich content to teach the Bible and theological truths. Kyle and Reggie also discuss ways we can use our time with high school students as a way to train future worship leaders. They also discuss practical issues like lighting, volume, and even the key songs are played in.

This week marks one year since we lost my nephew, TJ, so it is not lost on me God's timing to remind me, and all of us, of what He can do with grief and loss. You are going to love getting to know country-music star Granger Smith and his story. It's a story none of us want, but are often faced with. And Granger's story felt like the exact right one for this week. This conversation is emotional and heavy at times, but it's also hope-filled a reminder of what God can do with our grief. What He's capable of restoring and redeeming. His book Like a River is a beautiful resource. It's not easy to talk about loss and I'm so grateful for Granger. Just a heads-up, if your #miniBFF is listening along, this may be one you want to hear before you invite them into the conversation. . . . . Subscribe to Let's Read the Gospels with Annie F. Are our future leaders really ready to lead? Not if they have missed out on their greatest asset - the knowledge of those that paved the way. Here you'll learn why honoring and learning from the wisdom of senior leaders in ministry or other organizations is imperative when the next generation is preparing to take a seat of leadership. There's a common misconception that younger generations have more insight and is more up to date, while the older generation is often seen as resistant to change. As ministers, staff members and pastor's kids, Christopher Alessi and his sister Stephanie Muiña discuss the importance of the next generation partnering with and learning from the older generation, recognizing their wisdom and honoring their contributions.
