This week, Tommy is joined by actress Melissa O’Neil who plays Sergeant Lucy Chen in ABC’s THE ROOKIE. Melissa has been a fan-favorite character over the course of seven seasons of this smash hit series, and she will be returning for a highly anticipated eighth season. You may also know and love Melissa from playing the lead role in the Syfy Channel series, DARK MATTER. At 16, Melissa was the youngest and first female winner of Canadian Idol and went on to become a platinum selling recording artist. She also has performed on Broadway in both Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar. Today, Melissa opens up about that cliffhanger in the season seven finale, what she thinks might happen for Lucy and Tim next season, what it’s been like creating a beloved on-screen relationship with co-star Eric Winter, what she has most learned about herself since starting on THE ROOKIE, if there was ever a time in her career when she was uncomfortable with a scene, how she learned to communicate her concerns, the parts of playing Lucy that are both easy and harder for her, some of her favorite moments for Lucy, her reaction to Lucy being promoted to Sergeant, if she ever tries to give the writers ideas about her character, what she would want Lucy’s endgame to be, if she has the itch to do Broadway again, some of her dream roles, what her perfect day off is, how she maintains a positive outlook, something powerful she has never said before, and so much more. Back in 2006, Rex was a sensation on the show Canadian Idol - where he ultimately finished as the runner-up. He'll be watching tonight as Jacob gets his shot at the one-million dollar grand prize on Canada's Got Talent. Newfoundland isn't that big, so perhaps it's not so surprising that the two men already know each other... and in fact they go back a long ways. Isabella Chiarini is a name you'll want to remember, and her latest single, “Gotta Be,” cements her place as one of Canada's most exciting emerging pop artists. With masterful production, introspective songwriting, and a chorus that practically demands to be sung at the top of your lungs, “Gotta Be” is a radiant blend of pop sensibility and emotional depth. In our above interview with Isabella, she opened up about the inspiration behind “Gotta Be.” For her, the song represents a journey of self-discovery and reflection, a theme that resonates strongly in both the lyrics and the musicality. Co-written with Teresa Nocita and Brian Melo, the 2007 Canadian Idol winner, the track is as much about personal empowerment as it is about connection. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wewriteaboutmusic/support

Tyler Mullendore, born from the soul of Lake Ainslie Cape Breton (the witness protection capital of the world according to Mike!), masterfully blends rough-and-tumble roots rock with the electrified emotion of southern-fried Americana. His music channels the heart-wrenching wistfulness of Bob Seger and the lyrical introspection of John Prine, all driven by a classic rock pulse made even more compelling by the remarkable band behind him. A finalist on Canadian Idol, Tyler's authenticity as a songwriter was affirmed when he won eOne's national "Big Break" competition. On today's episode, we celebrate Tyler's personal growth and reflection as both a musician and a songwriter. We delve into how being thrust into the spotlight at a young age impacted his journey, the valuable lessons he's learned from these experiences, and how true happiness for him lies in the deep connections he fosters with family and community. For over 20 years, Cash Crawford has been involved in the music industry as a noteworthy vocalist, songwriter, and entertainer. Growing up in a rural area of Pritchard, Canada, Cash and her sister Sadie would sing every chance they got, even if it was walking down their driveway to the bus, or going to church on Sunday. In 2008, Cash participated in Canadian Idol, making it to the third round just before being televised. After Canadian Idol, Cash went on to travel across Canada performing as one half of the duo ‘Beyond the Mountain' with Theo Tams. This project won her the Toronto Independent Music Awards for Singer/Songwriter of the Year in 2012. During this time, Cash also worked as a voice actor and wrote solo music. Her original projects have earned her Rising Star, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year nominations. Since moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 2016, she continues to hone her skills both on and off the stage. In 2019, Cash released “Stevie”, her single written about her idol Stevie Nicks, with David Tolliver. Most recently, she has been working with producer Don Miggs in Nashville, TN. If you're looking for powerhouse vocals, Cash is your woman! Despite her ability to emulate the likenesses of softer vocalists such as Patsy Cline, Stevie Nicks, Ellie Goulding, and Taylor Swift, Cash excels at recording strong vocals in the style of Adele, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood.
