I reflect on changes in the indie hacking community, especially how Twitter's algorithm elevated a few “stars” and reduced sharing of useful lessons. I discuss how AI is transforming bootstrapping and SaaS, making coding accessible and raising anxiety about job security. Is AI truly delivering ROI, or are we just “burning tokens”? In this episode of The Effortless Podcast, Amit Prakash and Dheeraj Pandey unpack the MIT report that sparked debate on AI's real impact and revisit the timeless dilemma of whether to build or buy. They frame the conversation through a pyramid of adoption—from global enterprises with engineering armies, to mid-market firms that buy and configure, to SMBs seeking plug-and-play simplicity. Along the way, they explore the economics of “Supernovas” vs. “Shooting Stars” in AI startups, the integration struggles holding back the mid-market, and the consulting-heavy pitfalls of enterprise “project thinking.”This candid discussion reflects on lessons from the dot-com era, the stubbornness of leaders like Jeff Bezos and Reed Hastings, and why iteration—not initial insight—defines whether AI experiments evolve into durable products.Key Topics & Timestamps00:00 – Introduction: Framing “Agent Season” and the MIT report02:00 – The ROI Question: Burning tokens or building value?03:00 – Why Iteration Matters More in AI Than Traditional Software04:30 – The Pyramid of Adoption: Enterprises, Mid-Market, SMBs08:00 – SMBs, Plug-and-Play AI, and Startup Archetypes12:00 – Supernovas vs. Shooting Stars: Startup Economics15:00 – Dot-Com Parallels and the Role of Cheap Capital18:00 – Disillusionment and the Stubbornness of Leadership21:00 – Infrastructure and Iteration Speed: Microsoft vs. Google30:00 – Mid-Market Struggles: Integration and Context Problems36:00 – A Warehouse for Work: RAG, Indexing, and Workflows41:00 – The Consulting Trap in Enterprises46:00 – Projects vs. Products: The Cultural Divide51:00 – Internal Apps, Workflows, and the “Build” Mentality53:00 – Adoption, Habits, and the Design Challenge55:00 – Design Partnerships as Lifelines57:00 – Final Reflections on the MIT Report & AI's FutureHosts:Dheeraj Pandey – Co-founder and CEO at DevRev, former Co-founder & CEO of Nutanix. But arguably more important.Think of this one as a public service announcement, because I've been noticing an alarming trend both in the headlines and in private conversations. People are starting to make life-altering decisions because of AI fear. And unfortunately, much of that fear is being fueled by truly awful advice from high-level tech leaders. So in this abbreviated episode, I break down two growing trends that I believe are putting people at real risk. It's not because of AI itself, but because of how people are reacting to it.With that, let's get into it.⸻The Dangerous Rise of AI Panic DecisionsSome are dropping out of grad school. Others are cashing out their retirement accounts. And many more are quietly rearranging their lives because they believe the AI end times are near. In this first segment, I start by breaking down the realities of the situation then focusing on some real stories. My goal is to share why these reactions, though in some ways grounded in reality and emotionally understandable, can lead to long-term regret. Fear may be loud, but it's a terrible strategy.⸻Terrible Advice from the Top: Why Degrees Still Matter (Sometimes)A Google GenAI executive recently went on record saying young people shouldn't even bother getting law or medical degrees. And, he's not alone. There's a rising wave of tech voices calling for people to abandon traditional career paths altogether. I unpack why this advice is not only reckless, but dangerously out of touch with how work (and systems) actually operate today. Like many things, there are glimmers of truth blown way out of proportion. The goal here isn't to defend degrees but explain why discernment is more important than ever.⸻If this episode was helpful, would you share it with someone? Leave a rating, drop a comment with your thoughts, and follow for future updates that go beyond the headlines and help you lead with clarity in the AI age. And, if you'd take me out for a coffee to say thanks, you can do that here:

Captain Blair Wiggins — known to many as the Mogan Man from Addictive Fishing — has spent decades shaping saltwater fishing on Florida's Space Coast. Today, he's leading the charge on one of the most ambitious conservation projects in the state: planting over 96 million clams to restore the Indian River Lagoon. In this conversation, Blair and I go deep on fishing history, the birth of Addictive Fishing, the boom and bust of the clam fishery, his new show Blair Wiggins Outdoors, and why restoring water quality is the fight of our generation. Some of the moments I found most meaningful in this conversation were: The wild story of how “Mogan” became his nickname and brand. The rise of Addictive Fishing and what it was like to film all over the world. His first trip to Alaska — and how it changed him. The shocking scale of clam overharvesting and the black water years in the Indian River. How the Clam Project is filtering Florida's waters and changing the future for fish, anglers, and families. 00:00 Introduction 01:10 The Origin of the “Mogan Man” 03:45 Addictive Fishing & Early ICAST Days 10:15 Adventures Filming Worldwide 14:30 Blair Wiggins Outdoors & Working With His Son 19:00 The Indian River Clam Project Story 23:45 Funding, Partners & Education Efforts 28:10 Water Quality Challenges & Fertilizer Impact 32:00 Final Reflections & Call to Action
Justin Paperny had the perfect life — a privileged childhood in California, a promising baseball career, and by 26, he was the youngest broker at Bear Stearns' Los Angeles office. But behind the polished image, greed took over. First, it was stealing commissions. Then, he got pulled into a multi-million dollar fraud scheme with a client. At 32, he traded luxury boardrooms for 18 months in federal prison camp. In this interview, Justin reveals how his choices unraveled his career, the reality of life inside a federal prison camp, and how he turned his biggest mistake into a new mission — helping others avoid the same fate. His story is a cautionary tale of ambition, greed, and redemption. #WhiteCollarCrime #PrisonStories #FraudCase #FederalPrison #FinanceScandal #PrisonInterviews #TrueCrimePodcast #redemptionstory Connect with Justin Paperny: Website: https://free.whitecollaradvice.com/google2?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=White+Collar+Advice&utm_campaign=KS-Leads-Search-Brand&utm_content=Brand-Exact&utm_keyword=justin+paperny&utm_matchtype=e&campaign_id=22279642692&ad_group_id=174779004879&ad_id=734949328994&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22279642692&gbraid=0AAAAAC59KDbd9vbZE8r8cORPwr__0suk-&gclid=CjwKCAjwtfvEBhAmEiwA-DsKjqq4EOzZG9qXnXhrGdbvhfgeOeaGsqJOA-Y0j_5b61KcCob5GtNevxoCU0cQAvD_BwE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whitecollaradviceteam/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Get 50% off the Magic Mind offer here: https://www.magicmind.com/IANB50. #magicmind #mentalwealth #mentalperformance Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 Intro: Justin's Story & Downfall 02:23 From Wall Street to Prison 06:41 Turning Prison into Purpose 12:12 Building a New Life After Release 24:24 Baseball Dreams & Early Influences 36:00 Breaking into Finance 43:38 The Slippery Slope: Small Cheats, Big Consequences 51:13 Rationalizations and the Cost of Fraud 01:01:12 The Federal Investigation and Plea 01:05:41 Preparing for Prison and Self-Reflection 01:13:21 Life Inside: Surprising Prison Realities 01:28:39 Finding Redemption & Building Discipline 01:35:01 Life After Prison: Stigma, Success & Giving Back 01:44:34 Final Reflections & Outro Powered by: Just Media House : https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Creative direction, design, assets, support by FWRD: https://www.fwrd.co Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of The Sacred Speaks, John sits down with Adele Getty—spiritual teacher, author, and cultural bridge—to explore the urgent, timeless wisdom of her book A Sense of the Sacred. Though written nearly 30 years ago, Adele's work feels more relevant than ever in a world hungry for meaning, ritual, and reconnection with the more-than-human world. Together, John and Adele reflect on the lost world of animism, the power of symbolic action, and the aching grief of cultural severance from the sacred. Adele shares her path as a modern-day rite-maker, offering personal stories, cross-cultural insights, and poetic invitations to remember what it means to live in a living world. The conversation moves fluidly between anthropology, personal spirituality, indigenous wisdom, and the transformative potential of ceremony—especially in a time of ecological crisis and soul loss. This episode is both an intellectual dialogue and a soul invocation. If you've ever felt the quiet mourning of a life unlived—or sensed the sacred just beneath the surface of ordinary things—this conversation is for you. Key Themes: Animism as a lived cosmology—not a belief system, but a relationship The grief of modernity and the longing for reconnection Ceremony as both personal healing and collective repair The sacred role of women, humor, and voice in ritual How to begin building meaningful ceremonies in contemporary life Why symbolic acts matter in a disenchanted world Reflections on the psychedelic resurgence and ritual ethics Episode Timeline: (00:00) Introduction and Guest Announcement (00:37) Podcast Updates and Announcements (02:25) Introducing Adele Getty (04:02) The Book as a Lament and a Love Song (09:05) Adele's Personal Background and Influences (11:56) Animism and the Cosmology of Connection (16:44) Ceremony as Daily Practice and Communal Healing (24:54) Spirit, Voice, and Song in Ritual Work (35:32) Historical Context and Cultural Amnesia (47:34) The Psychedelic Explosion and Western Disconnection (50:26) Modern Psychedelics, Integration, and Ethical Ceremony (51:24) Nature as Teacher and Ceremony Ground (52:35) Creating Sacred Spaces in Ordinary Life (01:14:21) The Role of Humor, Play, and the Trickster (01:18:51) Symbolic Acts and Soul Reenchantment (01:19:57) Final Reflections on Ceremony and Belonging (01:26:44) Closing Thoughts and Upcoming Offerings Connect with Adele Getty & The Limina Foundation: Website: https://www.liminafoundation.org/ Facebook: @liminafoundation Instagram: @liminafoundation
While Human & Holy is currently on a season break, we're revisiting some of our most meaningful conversations from seasons past. This week's episode rerun is a conversation with Ester Zirkind, exploring the concept of Moach Shalit al Halev, the mind ruling over the heart. In a personal accounting of this idea, Ester speaks about the importance of our emotions in the equation. Using the mind to guide the heart is not about suppressing emotions. It's a spiritual reframe: how to honor your heart while allowing your mind to gently lead the way. "And I think that's why it took me 20 years to come back to the church is because it was never enough. Fear was not enough to get me to come back to the church. Shame was not enough to get me to come back to the church. Honestly, it was love, like, love brought me back to the church. So, you know, I've got too much proof. I'm still in the culinary world, there's still temptation, still surrounded by all the same stuff. But I pray every night. I do all the things right? I read my scriptures. I go to church. I take the sacrament. Those things that we teach the little kids in Primary, do it. Welcome to BanklessTV, featuring Peter Van Valkenburgh from Coin Center and David Morris of The Rage, freshly back from the SDNY courtroom with the inside scoop on the Roman Storm verdict. In this episode we unpack the split decision—how Storm beat the money-laundering and sanctions-evasion counts yet was found guilty on the hot-button “unlicensed money-transmission” charge—and what that single conviction means for every non-custodial developer in crypto. Peter breaks down the legal tightrope between FinCEN guidance and DOJ prosecution, outlines three clear appeal paths (including the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act), and explains why Roman's case could still become a rallying point for financial-privacy legislation. David shares firsthand color from the trial: jury deadlocks, high-stakes witness drama, and the emotional moment Storm walked free to see his daughter. Join us to hear why this verdict is both a wake-up call and an opportunity, what Congress, the courts, and the next administration might do next, and how the outcome could reshape DeFi, privacy tech, and open-source innovation for years to come. ------
